Abstract: In Porto Alegre/Brazil, the Municipal Law nº 8.896/2002, which set limits of exposure to non-ionizing radiation more protective than the levels established by the Federal Law, became a reference to other municipalities in the creation of RBS public policies, in line with the precautionary principle. In this scenario, an exploratory and descriptive research of qualitative nature was performed choosing as case study the municipal law of RBS in Porto Alegre, from the perspective of Sustainable Development. The results showed that the Municipal Law nº 8.896/2002 can be considered an innovative regulatory mark for Sustainability Development. Nevertheless, there was a flexiblization of legislation, which occurred in 2014, especially in the aspect of health. In addition, there was a repeal of Law nº 8.896/2002 at the end of 2018, resulting in an environmental setback in the political discussion about the possible adverse effects caused by electromagnetic pollution in the cities.

Abstract: Purpose: This study aimed to analyze how the career-building process of sustainable entrepreneurs occurs from the perspective of sustainable careers and how the influential factors in their career decisions are related to the dimensions and characteristics of sustainable careers. Design/methodology/approach: This is a qualitative study carried out by analyzing three Brazilian entrepreneurs’ life stories. Subsequently, the data were submitted to narrative analysis using the Atlas.ti software and then interpreted using sustainable career’s dimensions and characteristics. Findings: The study corroborates the literature on entrepreneurship, sustainability, and careers, shedding new light on the career decision process of sustainable entrepreneurs from the assumptions of the sustainable career perspective. We identified the emergence of influential categories as a disorienting dilemma, the importance of agency and meaning dimensions and the career coherence with values, quality of life, and self-fulfillment. In addition, sustainable entrepreneurship appears to be in line with the ideals of decent work, allowing for individual well-being, matching life and career values, and long-term employability. Originality: The sustainable career perspective offers an innovative, dynamic, and systemic perspective to understanding the professional trajectories of sustainable entrepreneurs, considering their learning along their trajectory, crossing different social spaces, experiences, and creations, which allow them to improve the adaptability necessary for the sustainability of their careers.

Abstract: The research efforts involving supply chains have not been investigating systematically the existent interrelations between interorganizacional trust, control and risks. Hence, this work aims to answer the following research question: How do interorganizacional trust, controls and risks affect each other in the context of supply chains? We perform it by employing the Das and Teng’s (2001) research framework into one of the largest Brazilian supply chains. Eight key propositions emerged from fifteen interviews and documental investigation. Altogether, such propositions allow to observe that (a) the joint analysis of interorganizacional trust, controls and risk provides a higher level of understanding of such elements in comparison with their individual analysis; (b) the various relationships between interorganizacional trust, controls and risks are complex, so linear research approaches are not adequate to comprehend their reality. The managerial implications of this study are the analytic capacity offered by the research framework for defining the types and extension of controls to be negotiated and for systemizing the largest risks to the business.

Abstract: This research has as focus the study of the learning in two horizontal networks in to agribusiness retail segment. This link plays a dominant role in the process that defines the choices of the other companies and suppliers (other links) that participate in these interorganizacional relationships. In this way, the objectives of this article are: (i) to identify the individual learning strategies adopted by the organizations that participate in the analyzed horizontal networks; (ii) to identify how the companies in the horizontal networks learn (the learning method) and; (iii) to verify in which evolutionary status of interorganizacional learning the researched companies are. This research is characterized as qualitative and exploratory nature and the adopted method is the multiple cases study. The results revealed the existence of differences among the strategies, the methods and the evolutionary status of interorganizacional learning adopted by the companies in the studied networks. These differences can be derived from participation of an external coordinator and of the existence of a joined actions and attitudes planning process. In the net where there is an external coordinator we can identify a collaborative behavior. The interactive learning method is used in this net and the evolutionary stage is characterized as re-orientation. In the net where has not an external coordinator we identify a strategic behavior that leads to avoidance and commitment that leads to competition. The learning methods used in this net are active learning and passive learning and the evolutionary stage is characterized as convergent.

Abstract: Growing concern about food safety indicates that supply chains play a predominant role in the productive process. The concepts of Supply Chain Management (SCM) may contribute substantially toward a more uniform process throughout the chain, facilitating the sharing of information and productive practices. This paper discusses the structure, links and degree of integration of Brazil’s pork export supply chain based on the model of Lambert et al. (1998), and the relation of SCM to the valuation of pork attributes and the implementation of food safety programs. Our empirical research was based on a sample of ten hog breeders whose production volume represented about 73% of the hogs slaughtered in 2002. Our findings reveal a supply chain strongly influenced by the meat processing industry, whose connections with suppliers and buyers are of the managed type. These findings, and the confirmation of the importance of SCM in the valuation of pork meat attributes and the implementation of food safety programs, place the processing industry in the position of key coordinator of policies aimed at promoting the safety of Brazilian pork.

Abstract: This paper presents an analysis concerning the possible effects of the opportunistic behavior and contract breakdowns in the South Brazilian Tobacco Chain. The study was based on Transaction Cost Economics and Interorganizational Relationships work. The results of this investigation show the importance of building up partnerships based on trust and cooperation connected to a chain concerning its organization and global performance.

Abstract: The National School Feeding Program (PNAE—Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar) is a Brazilian policy that attends to 44 billion students per year, distributed in 5,568 municipalities, providing school meals to public school students. Law No. 11,947 establishes a minimum percentage of 30% to purchase foodstuffs directly from family farming. In addition to the general rules, it is possible to create specific rules for the operationalization of the program; therefore, this paper aims to characterize the dynamic process of the relationships and actions of social agents involved through the Activity System generated by Law No. 11,947 of 2009 in the municipality of Porto Velho in the state of Rondônia, located in the western Amazon. As a theoretical framework, cultural-historical activity theory (CHAT) and mediated action theory (MAT) were used. To achieve the objective, qualitative research and abductive reasoning were adopted, using a unique and incorporated case study as a strategy. In all, 49 interviews were conducted and analyzed using content analysis. The extent of the influenced community and the different realities to which the actors are exposed were verified.
