Abstract:
What's already known about this topic? Fetuses with congenital heart disease (CHD) show reduced total brain volume compared with healthy, normal fetuses. The variation is brain growth starts as early as third trimester in CHD fetuses. What does this study add? The extent of brain anomaly in CHD fetuses corresponds to heart lesion type. Total brain volume is similar in CHD fetuses while brain composition differs between single and biventricular lesion types.
