Abstract: Background: This study examines the clinical and laboratory features of children with Henoch-Schönlein purpura. Methods: A retrospective study was applied for the 32 Henoch-Schönlein purpura patients who were monitored between January 2014 and June 2017 at the Pediatric clinic of a tertiary care hospital. The diagnoses were made based on the HSP criteria of the American College of Rheumatology. Age, gender, clinical and laboratory findings of the patients were recorded. Results: The mean age of the 32 Henoch-Schönlein purpura patients was 9.29±3.29 years. Complaints at the time of admission were as follows: 93.8% of the patients (n=30) had rash; 40.6% (n=13) had abdominal pain; and 59.4% (n=19) had joint involvement and inability to walk. The results of fecal occult blood test examined during the admission were found as negative for the 75% (n=25) of patients and positive for the 19% (n=6) of patients. According to the urinary specimens, which were considered as the evidence of renal involvement at the applications, proteinuria was found negative for the 27 (8.4%) patients and positive for the 5 (1.6%) patients; hematuria was negative for the 29 (90.6%) children and positive for the 3 (%9.4) children. Antihistamine and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory were started as the treatment to the patients. During the follow-up, the 15.5% of patients had positive fecal blood tests although their test results were negative at the admission. During the clinical follow-up, the presence of proteinuria was found positive for the 6.3% of patients who had negative proteinuria test at their admissions. Conclusions: Henoch-Schönlein purpura is a childhood vasculitis that manifests itself with rash and joint findings. It can cause significant complications due to gastrointestinal and genitourinary system involvement.

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: Today, the use of smart phones, which provide convenience in many areas such as communication, internet access and taking photographs, is becoming more and more common. In addition to the benefits of these devices to the user, it has been reported that they pose an addiction risk due to not being used for an appropriate period of time and frequency. This study aimed to investigate the frequency of smartphone addiction (SPA) and its relationship with sleep problems among medical students.MATERIAL AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on medical students at Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University, Faculty of Medicine between 05.05.2020 - 20.05.2020. A structured questionnaire in which sociodemographic characteristics, sleep problems and daytime sleepiness behaviors were questioned and the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Form (SPAS-SF) were applied to the participants.RESULTS: It was determined that 35 (23.5%) students whose SPAS-SF scores were above the third quarter value were determined to be probable addict or addict. No significant difference was found when non-addicted and addicted students were compared in terms of daily sleep duration (p & gt;0.05). The behaviors of being restless when falling asleep, eating before going to sleep, being unable to leave their smartphones even when drowsy, and skipping breakfast to sleep more were significantly more common in addicted students (p & lt;0.001, p=0.001, p & lt;0.001, p=0.003; respectively). Daytime sleepiness behaviors were also found to be more frequent in addicted students (p & lt;0.01).CONCLUSIONS: With this study, it was observed that SPA was common among medical students and sleep problems such as daytime sleepiness were more frequent in smartphone addicts.

Abstract: Akut pankreatit ve akut tekrarlayan pankreatit, çocuklarda yaşam kalitesini bozan ve anksiyete düzeyini etkileyen hastalıklardan biridir.

Abstract: Introduction: Mental foramen is the anatomical formation on the anterior surface of the corpus mandible. The localization and detection of mental foramen is important in terms of dental procedures, endototic treatments, implant applications, surgical procedures in the premolar region and local anesthesia. It is stated that the place of mental foramen changes with races, from person to person and with aging. Our aim is to know the localization of the mental foramen in the pediatric population and to evaluate it using three-dimensional computed tomography in living people according to age, gender and location (right / left). Material and Method: This descriptive study was performed retrospectively on the images of 99 individuals with a mean age of 9.11 (± 2.7) who underwent cranial computerized tomography for any reason. Results: The mean of the measurements we made from the mental foramen to the alveolar crest point (E1) in our study was 12.5±2.7 mm, the average of the measurements made from the lower margin of the mental foramen to the lower limit of the mandible (E2) 9.1±1.8 mm mean of measurements from the medial margin of the mental foramen to the point of the symphysis menton (E3) 21.4±1.9 mm, mental foramen from the lateral edge to the point on the posterior border of the ramus (E4) the mean of the measurements was 46.4 ± 4.4 mm. There was no significant difference between male-female and left-right comparisons. There was positive correlation between age and E2, E3, E4 measurements and negative correlation between age and right E1. There was no significant difference between age and E1. Conclusion: Precise localization of the mental foramen in the pediatric population is of great importance in reducing the complications of anesthesia in surgical applications to be performed in the premolar region.

Abstract: Exploring the determinants of timely initiation of breastfeeding is necessary for planning efficient breastfeeding promotion programs. The presemt study aimed to investigate the frequency and related factors of timely initiation of breastfeeding among Turkish mothers. This study was a cross-sectional, descriptive, mixed-model study, which was carried on mothers with healthy children up to 3 years old who applied to pediatric clinics between November 01, 2019 and December 30, 2019 in a university hospital. Of the 307 participant mothers, the mean age was found as 28.3 ± 3.9 years. The frequency of timely initiation of breastfeeding was 70.7%. Significant associations were found between timely initiation of breastfeeding status and residence, type of delivery, type of anesthesia, birth weight of babies, counseling on timely initiation of breastfeeding during antenatal care, and consultant medical staff. In order to increase the breastfeeding rate in the first hour, spontaneous vaginal delivery should be supported, and spinal / epidural anesthesia method should be preferred in cases where cesarean delivery is indicated. Other important steps to increase the ratio of timely initiation of breastfeeding are strengthening breastfeeding counseling services and the midwifery system.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the relations of picky eating habit of children with their nutrition, physical activity, screen time and sleep habits in the context of parental picky eating habit. Methods In a cross-sectional study a questionnare was applied to the parents of children aged 6–13 years in two provincies. The cases were analyzed as the overall group and the two subgroups in which both parents are not picky eater, and in which at least one parent was picky eater. Child's risk of being picky eater was analyzed by logistic regression. Results A total of 913 children and parent pairs were included in the study. The risk of picky eating of the child increases 2.85 (AOR: 1.67–4.88) times when only the mother was picky eater, 5.99 (AOR: 3.32–7.52) times when only the father was picky eater, and 22.79 (AOR: 6.95–74.71) times when both of the parents were picky eaters. In the subgroup in which at least one parent was picky eater, it was determined that children with physical activity duration of ≥ 1 h/day and sleep time of ≥ 9 h /day were less likely to be picky eater and the children with screen time of ≥ 2 h/day were more likely to be picky eaters. Conclusion Picky eating habit in childhood is related to the picky eating habit of the parents. In the context of this relationship, the picky eating habit of children is related to sleep, physical activity, screen time and other eating habits.
