Abstract: A one-year-old domestic shorthair male cat was presented to the clinic with severe dyspnoea. The cat has a history of recurrence bronchial disease with coughing as a major clinical sign. The cat never be  hospitalized and clinical symptoms will disappear after antibiotic and glucocorticoid administration within a few days. On physical examination, the cat was dehydrated and apathetic. Dullness thoracic percussion was detected. Other organs out of thorax did not show abnormality. Thoracic radiography revealed pleural effusion. Purulent fluid was obtained by thoracocentesis and cytologic examination result was septic exudates. Hematological result was marked leukocytosis (59.69x10ˆ9 g/l). Enrofloxacin was given as empirical antibiotic until culture results released. On the 7th day of Enrofloxacin administration, there was only a slight decrease in leucocyte count. Bacterial culture results was Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumanii) that are sensitive to Meropenem and Tigecycline from antibiotic resistance test. Previous antibiotic was stopped and replaced with intravenous Meropenem. Moderate decrease of leucocytes count (28.03x10ˆ9 g/l) obtained on day 18th of Meropenem treatment and patient shows good clinical sign progress. Meropenem resistancy were considered when leucocytes count increased on the 20th day as A. baumanii is extremely multi-resistant organism. Third-line Tigecycline was administered as the last choice use of antibiotic and stop after leucocyte returned to normal on the 7th day of the treatment. The cat is fully recovered from Acinetobacter Baumannii infection pyothorax treated using third-line Tigecycline antibiotics.

Abstract: An 11-year-old castrated male Maltese was examined for increased frequency of defecation, mucus in feces, and chronic diarrhea with hematochezia. The dog was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, IPB University for further evaluation. Ultrasonography and colonoscopy were performed to further diagnose. Abdominal ultrasonography was taken using a linear probe with frequency 6-11 MHz. Colonoscopy was performed using colonoscope with tube length 700 mm and diameters 10 mm under anesthesia. Abdominal ultrasonography showed that the dog had a mucocele gall bladder, cholecystitis, hepatitis, slight-mild splenitis, nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis and thickened of the duodenal wall due to inflammatory bowel diseases. Colonoscopy showed ulceration and hemorrhage along the surface of the colon, whereas hyperemia only seen on the ascending colon. Based on endoscopic examination, the dog was diagnosed with severe and chronic ulcerative colitis. The authors recommended that the colonic biopsy should be undertaken in the dog presented with chronic ulcerative colitis.

Abstract: Natural brown silk biomaterial from silkworm Attacus atlas L. ( A. atlas L.) is a biopolymer that has many advantages compared to commercial silk from Bombyx mori ( B. mori ). The aim of this study was to investigate the cytotoxicity of A. atlas L. silk on rat smooth muscle cells with the direct method of methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay compared to commercial surgical suture silk. The result showed that brown colored natural silk has low cytotoxicity as same as commercial surgical suture silk with slightly lower cell viability. It was found that A. atlas L. silk potentially can developed to be surgical suture thread as a new expectation of biopolymer material in biomedical products.

Abstract: A stable repaired fracture is the key factor responsible for the recovery of a damaged bone. The iron-based implant is one of the biodegradable metals that have been proven safe as a fracture fixation device. The objective of our experimental approach was to examine the potential of the iron-based implant as a biodegradable metal in tibia shaft fracture in sheep chronically. The samples used for this experiment were iron-based and stainless steel implants. Each had a diameter of 5 mm. These samples were analyzed through 3 phases which are material characterization, in vitro and in vivo examination. The samples were examined using a scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectrometer and X-ray diffraction. Based on the analysis carried out, the samples contained 90,02% and 60,81% Fe for iron-based implant and stainless implant, respectively. Both implants maintained high viability when being in contact with calf pulmonary artery endothelial cells, indicating that both implants had a minimum response to the cell in a hemocytometer and methyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay. The systemic effect of the implants was observed using hematology and blood chemistry examination. Data collection also shows that both implants also had a minimum response to the erythrocytes, leucocytes, blood chemistry, and blood mineral during the period of observation. Therefore, it could be concluded that the iron-based implant is tolerable for a period of 9 months. It also has the potential to be used as a biodegradable orthopedic implant.

Abstract: Veterinary Hospital of Education Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University, received a Golden Retriever with clinical symptoms of anorexia, abdominal pain, vomiting and constipation in April 2016. Blood profile examination showed leukocytosis, erythropenia and low hemoglobin level. Radiographic examination without contrast showed a foreign body which is characterized by a large mass radiopaque in intestinal area. Forty-five minutes after the administration of radiographic contrast, contrast material was still in gastrium and only reached partial intestinal. Endoscopy examination showed there was irritation symptoms of the esophagus to gastrium. Black colored liquid was seen while the endoscope inserted into the gastric. Enterotomy was carried out to remove foreign objects. The foreign body is consisted of bones fragments and the plastic that was eaten by the patient. One week after surgery, the animals showed clinical symptoms and had a good appetite. These case can be prevented by not giving foods that contain animal bones and keeping animals in a dirty environment.

Abstract: An 9-years-old male pug was examined for stranguria and letargic in one week. The dog has no testicles as the owner claimed that the dog had been castrated a few years ago. Abdominal palpation shows bladder retention filled with urine but no blockage was found. Urine sedimentation contained blood and few unknown crystal. Hematology showed mild anemia and leukocytosis while blood chemistry only found mild hyperglobulinemia. Radiography showed prostate enlargement. Ultrasound examination was showing mild nephrolithiasis, cystitis and prostatic enlargement. Diagnosis of benign prostate hyperplasia is suspected but doubtful because the animal has been castrated. Differential diagnose was prostatic cysts, infection and cancer. The dog received finasteride 1 mg/kg twice a day orally for 60 days and antibiotic. Urine catheter was temporarily installed to evacuate urine twice a day. Post treatment ultrasound was performed 20 days later and showed evident involution of prostate sizes. An enlarge irregular testicle was also found in right dorsolateral of bladder. Monorchid castration was performed at 60 days of finasteride. The dog was diagnosed with monorchid induce benign prostate hyperplasia from the radiography and ultrasonography. The prostate size was reduced after finasteride administration
