Abstract: This study determined the knowledge of physical activity on blood pressure distribution among Secondary School Students in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. A cross-sectional survey was employed for this study. Five research questions and 5 hypotheses guided the study. The instrument used for the study was validated by three experienced lecturers. The population for this study consisted of all secondary students in the area. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 264 senior secondary students from 6 schools as they were properly guided on the complete filing and return of the questionnaires titled, Physical Activity and Blood Pressure Questionnaire, (PABPQ). The reliability coefficient value obtained was r=0.763. Two hundred and sixty-four questionnaires were administered and had a return rate of 95%. Data obtained were analyzed using frequency and percentages to answer research questions and chi-square to test research hypotheses at .05 alpha levels. The findings of the study showed a high level of knowledge of physical activity on blood pressure among respondents. Also, knowledge of physical activity on blood pressure distribution based on class, age and gender of the students were indicated to be high. Based on the findings, it was thus recommended amongst others that there should be the inclusion of the practical aspect of physical activity into the school system, as more suitable physical activities should be taught at all levels of learning. Nevertheless, there is a need to put into practice this knowledge gained for optimal and healthy living. 〈 p 〉   〈 /p 〉 〈 p 〉 〈 strong 〉 Article visualizations: 〈 /strong 〉 〈 /p 〉 〈 p 〉 〈 img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0968/a.php" alt="Hit counter" / 〉 〈 /p 〉

Abstract: Caesarean section is a surgical procedure used in delivering a baby by incising the abdomen and uterus of the mother. In a typical Nigerian culture, it is seen as a method to deliver a baby when the mother is not strong. Based on this premise, most men show a very negative attitude towards the procedure. This negative attitude may translate to a belief which might not be wholesome. Objectives: To assess the belief of male partners towards caesarean section. Methods: A sample of 400 male partners was investigated. The instrument used for data collection was a 22-item valid and reliable (α = 0.98) questionnaire developed by the researchers. The questionnaire was administered to the participants on face-to-face approach. Data were analysed using percentages, mean, standard deviation, analysis of variance, t-test and multiple regression analysis. Results: Results data showed that the male partners studied had negative beliefs towards caesarean section. Significant differences existed in the belief of the respondents towards caesarean section as it relates to their age, level of education, occupation, religion and location of residence ( p  〈  0.05). Using a stepwise multiple regression model, all the socio-demographic variables studied played out to be significant ( p  〈  0.05) predictors of belief towards the subject matter. Conclusion: The male partners have negative belief towards caesarean section and the personal characteristics of the subjects predicted their belief towards the subject matter. The existing phenomenon can be changed through health campaigns and education using healthcare workers and health educators.

Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Results:  The findings indicated that student with suicidal ideas, 68.3% are in stressful situation, 65.7% has been absence in school for 3 days consecutively, 62.7% have been disappointed by boy/girl-friend, 59.9% feel disappointed from academic performance, 58.4% have been sad or depressed most of the time, 55.6% have been lonely, and 52.3% felt so sad in a way that the situation was unbearable. The result further shows that the major risk factor of suicidal ideation among secondary school students are cultism (71.3%), alcoholism (56.9%), poverty (61.7%), drug use disorders such as (drug addiction, drug dependence, tolerance) 228 (57.9%), and mental illness (54.8%). Other risk factors identified are mental illness 216 (54.8%), sexual harassment/assault (51.8%), unemployment (51.8%), physical assault/bullying (51.8%), and family history of suicide (50.8%). Abstract: COVID-19 infection has continued to pose a very serious health threat to mankind globally despite all efforts geared toward curbing its spread. More worrisome recently is the report from different parts of the world on the re-infection of those treated and recovered with COVID -19 patients thus making containment of the virus even more difficult. Of more worrisome is the fact that the lung, a vital human organ is a major site being attacked by the virus even on re-infection cases. If quick action is not taken early enough, it may lead to the outright death of the patient. A lung infection, (Pneumonia) caused by COVID-19 has been discovered to be having a stunning effect on hospital systems and killing COVID-19 patients silently and it occurs even as the patient is asymptomatic. This paper examines the reasons for re-infection, Lacuna in the reviewed literature with regards to PCR test results, the effect of re-infection on the lungs, and implication for patients & rsquo; lung health. The papers summarized and concluded that it & rsquo;s a fact that re-infection occurs among patients accompanied by mild or severe symptoms having far-reaching implications for the patient & rsquo;s lung health. The paper recommends that the government at all levels should collaborate with WHO, CDC, and health policymakers to legally mandating, that every recovered patient should stay an additional 2weeks in the hospital for early detection of re-infection in order to avert any invasion and damage to the lungs thus ensuring lung health. Also, proper health education should be availed to the recovered patients to avoid any exposures or habits (different from the index disease) such as smoking that can pose dangers to the already fatigued lungs.

Abstract: Background: Women have faced barriers that have discouraged their progress in the level of participation in sport across all the countries and Nigeria is not an exception. This study examined the socio-cultural factors influencing women participation in sports Ikwo local governments, Ebonyi state. Methods: The descriptive survey design was used. The population of the study comprised 200 female athletes in Ikwo local governments which covered twenty (20) wards. They was no need for sampling hence the entire population was used for the study. A self-structured questionnaire was employed in collecting data from the respondents. Data collected were analyze descriptively using frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviations. Results: The result of the mean and standard deviations of Social factors ( = 2.71±SD=0.56), and cultural factors ( = 2.85 ±SD=0.53), indicated that both social and cultural factors predicts/prevent female participation in sports in Ikwo local government area, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. The result of the null-hypotheses tested shows that there was a significant difference in the class level (F = 4.306; P = 0.003 〈 0.05) and marital status (F = 3.976; P = 0.021 〈 0.05) of the respondents. However, age of the respondents did not differ (F = 0.330; P = 0.719 〉 0.05) on the socio-cultural predictors of female participation in sports. Conclusion: The Government, physical and health educators and other relevant stakeholders should organize community based education or enlightenment campaign in various communities in the area and Nigeria in general on the importance of sports participation among women.
