Abstract: Background: Mental health is an important component of a person's state of health. According to World Health Organization (WHO), there can be no health without mental health. Timely detection and care of mental health disorders are essential, contributing to health protection and improvement during the adolescent period and adulthood. Objectives: To describe the situation of mental health problems and identify some related factors in secondary school students in Hue city. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 500 secondary school students in Hue city from October 2021 to June 2022. The data was collected by face-to-face interviews using a pre-designed questionnaire that included social-demographic information, family and school problems, and the SDQ-25 scale which assesses adolescents' mental health status. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with mental health. Results: Our research showed that 18.2% (95% CI: 15.1 - 21.8) students had abnormal mental health score; 27.4% (95% CI: 23.2 - 31.4) had borderline mental health score. The emotional problems had the highest rate (20.6%). Conduct problems, peer problem and hyperactivity/inattention accounted for 15.6%, 15.0% and 13.4% among the study subjects. 8.6% had prosocial problems. Some mental health-related factors were parents' marital status, frequency of physical activity, bedtime at the evening, family problems, school problems, and personal desires (p 〈 0.05). Conclusion: The percentage of students having mental health problems was high. It is necessary for family and school to encourage the participation in appropriate physical activities and change the habit of going to bed late to contribute to improving students' mental health status.

Abstract: Providing equal accessibility to social activities and transport to everyone is an important task of the transport authorities, especially in developing countries. However, the transport planners mainly focus on expanding the network coverage but lack attention on the accessibility to the service for the aged people. In this study, we have investigated the preferences of different accessibility indicators from the perspective of the aged people in developing countries using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique. The importance level obtained from the popular rating via the Likert scale will also be compared with the AHP results. The findings presented in this work contributed more insights on the preferences of the aged people on accessibility to public transport, subsequently, better inform transport planners to improve the bus services in these countries. The comparison between self-report surveys via rating and preferences would be a reference for the consideration of survey tools in similar studies.

Abstract: The travel demand prediction of an activity-based travel demand model (ABM) is based on a hierarchical structure of multiple choices related to an individual’s activity scheduling. This structure has, however, not been investigated for motorcycle-based cities. The coarseness of the traffic analysis zoning system combined with mixed land use results in a large proportion of intrazonal trips, which demands model enhancement in ABMs for these cities. Using large-scale household travel survey data from Ho Chi Minh City, a major motorcycle-based city in Vietnam, this study investigated the hierarchical structure for non-work activity scheduling, with consideration of three dimensions: (1) activity starting time, (2) travel mode, and (3) destination choices at the tour level with attention given to the impacts of intrazonal tours. Multinomial logit and nested logit models were adopted for model development. Results showed that work durations in the schedule strongly affected the scheduling of non-work activities. The estimated logsum parameters showed empirical evidence that hierarchy could be different for different activity types. Our findings also suggested a significant impact of intrazonal tours on the structuring and modeling of activity scheduling choices. The validation result indicated that our proposed models’ predictive capability is acceptable.

Abstract: Introduction: The extension of life expectancy has led to the expansion of comorbidities and declination of functional ability, which have consequences on mental, physical and social well-being of the elderly. Hence, comprehensive understanding factors influencing instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) will guide future health strategies to improve the quality of life for the elderly. Objective: To access the prevalence of IADL limitation and its related factors among community-dwelling elderly in Hue city. Method: We carried out a cross-sectional study on 427 elderly aged 60 or older in Hue city from April 2020 to March 2021. The Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living scale was used to access the limitation of IADL. Using logistics regression analysis to investigate the potential determinants of IADL limitation in older adults. Result: The prevalence of IADL limitation among community-dwelling elderly were 51.0% and 40.7% for female and male, respectively. Female participants often found difficulty in traveling (41.2%), going shopping (37.6%) and food preparing (33.5%) and problems related to going shopping (38.5%) and traveling (18.1%) were most observed in male. Logistics regression analysis revealed that advanced age (aOR = 8.57, 95% CI: 4.20 – 17.48), illiteracy (aOR = 5.54, 95% CI: 1.79 – 17.20), physical inactivity (aOR = 2.67, 95% CI: 1.67 – 4.56), walking aid usage (aOR = 27.06, 95% CI: 3.15 – 232.89) and visual impairment (aOR = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.36 – 3.93) as being significantly associated with IADL limitation. Conclusion: The overall prevalence of the community-dwelling elderly who reported limitation in performing IADL was considerably high. Healthcare programs should focus on early health status screening and developing healthy lifestyle campaigns for the elderly. Key words: instrumental activities of daily living, IADL, community-dwelling elderly, Hue city
