Abstract: Many scientists are interested in microalgae and cyanobacteria because of their richness in high-value bioactive metabolites (proteins, lipids, vitamins, plant growth regulators, and others). Microalgae and cyanobacteria can be used to produce valuable commodities such as dietary supplements, biofuel, animal feed, and agricultural fertilizer, etc. To improve the economic feasibility of the cyanobacterial product recovery process, it is possible to utilize domestic wastewater as a source of nutrients for their growth. This research focuses on assessing the ability of domestic wastewater treatment and treated domestic wastewater utilization to stimulate BC15 rice-grain sprouting by cyanobacteria Spirulina platensis SP4. Research results showed that S. platensis SP4 grown best in domestic wastewater at the initial density of 0.3 and the wastewater concentration of 100%. The incubation of S. platensis was performed in the laboratory under the condition of 16.8 g/L NaHCO3; aeration during 8 h/day; light: dark cycle of 8:16; light intensity of 5000 lux. Under these conditions S. platensis SP4 could treat N-NH4+, T-N, P-PO43-, T-P and COD well with the treatment efficiency of 96.37, 49.71, 67.05, 65.88 and 95.53%, respectively. The addition of treated domestic wastewater by S. platensis SP4 to BC15 rice grains stimulated the grouting by 99.54 ± 1.25%, which was 1.54 times higher than using the tap water and gave a germination efficiency equivalent to that of the experiments with adding cyanobacteria in standard medium with or without L-tryptophan addition for 48 h. The obtained research results have elucidated the feasibility of employing cyanobacteria in residential wastewater treatment as well as the reuse of treated wastewater for plant development.

Abstract: Heavy metal contamination in the environment due to anthropogenic activities in industrial and agricultural areas represents stress for the living ecosystem including soil microorganisms. The adaptive response of bacterial communities to these pollutants can be observed through the increasing proportion of resistant bacteria. Our study aimed at evaluating the effect of metal contamination to the emergence of bacteria resistant to 3 common antibiotics, ie., gentamycin, sulfamethoxazole, and norfloxacin in Tan Long Pb-Zn mining site, Thai Nguyen province by a culture-dependent approach. The results showed that under moderated Pb contamination, a significant increase in prevalence of gentamycin-resistant bacteria was observed. Antibiotic susceptibility test showed 45% of isolates resistant to at least two antibiotics among gentamycin, norfloxacin, tetracyclin, imipenem, andsulfamethoxazole, and 10.4 % of isolates resistant tho three antibiotics. More detailed investigations in molecular analysis are needed to identify and genetically characterize of multi-drug resistant isolates as well as to better understand the link between metal resistance and (multi)resistance to antibiotics.

Abstract: Charybdis feriata (Linnaeus, 1758) is wide distribution and high economic value species in many countries around the world. In Vietnam, Charybdis feriata is on the list of endangered species that need to be conserved. Parasites cause many effects on the growth and development of crabs, which may be one of the causes leading to the decline of host populations. This paper presents the species composition, parasitic sites and infection status of parasitic crustaceans on C. feriata in Nha Trang Bay. From 113 individuals of Charybdis feriata collected in June and July 2022, we have identified 6 species of parasitic crustaceans, of which 2 species have been recorded for the first time on this crab, including: Octolasmis neptuni, Semibalanus sp.. Each infested crab is infected with up to 5 species of parasites. Octolasmis angulata was the dominant species with the highest prevalence and median intensity of infection at 44.4% and 6.5 individuals/infected crabs, respectively. Comparison of infection status by sex and host size showed that Sacculina serenei infection rate was higher in female crabs than male crabs, while infection intensity in male crabs was higher than female crabs. The prevalence and intensity of infection with Octolasmis angulata species increased significantly with host size. There was no statistical difference between the different host groups of sex and size. The data on parasitic crustaceans on Charybdis feriata contribute to the basis for the recovery, sustainable development of this endangered species.

Abstract: The curriculum development capacity of pedagogical students as pre-service teachers at universities of education plays a decisive role in the process of achieving the educational goals of a nation. In Vietnam, ethnic minority students have more drawbacks than their peers, so the issues of enhancing curriculum development capacity for ethnic minority students in pedagogical universities in Vietnam need to be paid more attention. In this study, the researchers used a quantitative research method to assess the curriculum development competency of students in general and ethnic minority students, in particular, at several pedagogical universities in Vietnam. The study was carried out online through Google Forms. After data collection, the study obtained 1 246 responses from 1 510 students of nine pedagogical universities. Research findings show that (1) there are three groups of competencies with 15 components of curriculum development competency, including comprehension (knowledge) of curriculum development (A1); practical skills (skills) of curriculum development (A2) and emotional competency (attitudes) about curriculum development (A3); (2) The curriculum development competency of ethnic minority students in pedagogical universities is quite good, in which the component competencies range from 3.7 and 3.9 in average point for each of the above groups of competencies (on a 5-point Likert Scale). Research findings suggest contributing to providing scientific bases and useful suggestions for developing sustainable education in different regions of Vietnam.

Abstract: Multi-drug resistance to antibiotics represents a growing challenge in treating infectious diseases. Outside the hospital, bacteria with the multi-drug resistance (MDR) phenotype have an increased prevalence in anthropized environments, thus implying that chemical stresses, such as metals, hydrocarbons, organic compounds, etc., are the source of such resistance. There is a developing hypothesis regarding the role of metal contamination in terrestrial and aquatic environments as a selective agent in the proliferation of antibiotic resistance caused by the co-selection of antibiotic and metal resistance genes carried by transmissible plasmids and/or associated with transposons. Efflux pumps are also known to be involved in either antibiotic or metal resistance. In order to deal with these situations, microorganisms use an effective strategy that includes a range of expressions based on biochemical and genetic mechanisms. The data from numerous studies suggest that heavy metal contamination could affect the dissemination of antibiotic-resistant genes. Environmental pollution caused by anthropogenic activities could lead to mutagenesis based on the synergy between antibiotic efficacy and the acquired resistance mechanism under stressors. Moreover, the acquired resistance includes plasmid-encoded specific efflux pumps. Soil microbiomes have been reported as reservoirs of resistance genes that are available for exchange with pathogenic bacteria. Importantly, metal-contaminated soil is a selective agent that proliferates antibiotic resistance through efflux pumps. Thus, the use of multi-drug efflux pump inhibitors (EPIs) originating from natural plants or synthetic compounds is a promising approach for restoring the efficacy of existing antibiotics, even though they face a lot of challenges.

Abstract: Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest diversity of golden camellias in the world, with more than forty endemic species. However, studies on Vietnamese golden camellias need to be expanded to fill a knowledge gap on these species' chemical profiles and pharmacological properties. This qualitative study focuses on six golden camellias: four endemic species from Tam Dao district, Vinh Phuc province, including Camellia hakodae , Camellia phanii , Camellia tamdaoensis , Camellia tienii and two species commonly cultivated in Quang Ninh province including Camellia petelotii and Camellia euphlebia . A mutual profile of 131 metabolites was obtained by using widely targeted metabolomics analysis using ultra‐performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. Comparative metabolomics was performed among leaf extracts of six golden teas, between young and mature leaves and between freeze‐drying and oven‐drying leaves to discriminate these species, and determine the effect of developmental stage and post‐harvesting method on the plant metabolism. The PLS‐DA model successfully illustrated a clear separation of the six species and suggested apigenin C‐glycoside derivatives as chemical markers for the diversity. Young and mature leaves of all six species also produced distinguished metabolomes, differentiated by mostly amino acid derivatives. The multivariate analysis also indicated the conversion of some flavonoids and amino acids induced by heat in the drying process. These results offer metabolite markers for quality control of Vietnamese golden camellias and recommendations for their usage and preparation.
