    Abstract: α-Thalassemia is a common inherited blood disorder manifested mainly by the deletions of α-globin genes. In geographical areas with high carrier frequencies, screening of α-thalassemia carrier state is therefore of vital importance. This study presents a novel method for identifying female carriers of common α-thalassemia deletions using samples routinely taken for non-invasive prenatal tests for screening of fetal chromosomal aneuploidies. A total of 68,885 Vietnamese pregnant women were recruited and α-thalassemia statuses were determined by gap-PCR, revealing 5344 women (7.76%) carried deletions including αα/−− SEA (4.066%), αα/−α 3.7 (2.934%), αα/−α 4.2 (0.656%), and rare genotypes (0.102%). A two-stage model was built to predict these α-thalassemia deletions from targeted sequencing of the HBA gene cluster on maternal cfDNA. Our method achieved F1-scores of 97.14–99.55% for detecting the three common genotypes and 94.74% for detecting rare genotypes (−α 3.7 /−α 4.2 , αα/−− THAI , −α 3.7 /−− SEA , −α 4.2 /−− SEA ). Additionally, the positive predictive values were 100.00% for αα/αα, 99.29% for αα/−− SEA , 94.87% for αα/−α 3.7 , and 96.51% for αα/−α 4.2 ; and the negative predictive values were 97.63%, 99.99%, 99.99%, and 100.00%, respectively. As NIPT is increasingly adopted for pregnant women, utilizing cfDNA from NIPT to detect maternal carriers of common α-thalassemia deletions will be cost-effective and expand the benefits of NIPT.

    Abstract: Background: Dental caries is a multifactorial and dynamic disease caused by damage to dental hard tissues. It is known as the most common disease of oral health conditions in school-aged children. Caries can affect children’s quality of life, such as studying, recreational activities, and psychosocial well-being. In recent years, some studies done in other provinces of Vietnam reported that the rate of dental caries in primary and permanent dentition was still high. Objectives: To determine the prevalence, indices of dental caries, and oral hygiene status among students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 at Vo Truong Toan elementary school, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City in 2021. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 at Vo Truong Toan elementary school, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City in the 2020 – 2021 academic year. Results: A total of 288 students (6 – 11 years of age) participated in this study with the prevalence of caries in all teeth, deciduous dentition, and permanent dentition were 94.8%, 89.9%, and 44.4%, respectively. The overall mean decayed, missing, and filled teeth index was 6.83 ± 3.96, the overall mean decayed, missing, and filled surfaces index was 11.78 ± 10.08, the overall mean significant caries index was 11.35 ± 2.14, and the overall mean untreated caries index was 0.40 ± 1.06. 78.8% of students had good and fair oral hygiene without statistically significant association with gender or age groups (p 〉 0.05). Conclusions: This study has shown the high prevalence of caries, so the community should carry out preventive solutions to improve correct perceptions and actions.

    Abstract: Since it was first discovered, thousands of years ago, silkworm silk has been known to be an abundant biopolymer with a vast range of attractive properties. The utilization of silk fibroin (SF), the main protein of silkworm silk, has not been limited to the textile industry but has been further extended to various high-tech application areas, including biomaterials for drug delivery systems and tissue engineering. The outstanding mechanical properties of SF, including its facile processability, superior biocompatibility, controllable biodegradation, and versatile functionalization have allowed its use for innovative applications. In this review, we describe the structure, composition, general properties, and structure-properties relationship of SF. In addition, the methods used for the fabrication and modification of various materials are briefly addressed. Lastly, recent applications of SF-based materials for small molecule drug delivery, biological drug delivery, gene therapy, wound healing, and bone regeneration are reviewed and our perspectives on future development of these favorable materials are also shared.

    Abstract: Mục tiêu: Xác định đặc điểm lâm sàng và giải phẫu bệnh các trường hợp ung thư nguyên phát đồng thời ở nội mạc tử cung và ở buồng trứng. Đối tượng và phương pháp: Nghiên cứu hồi cứu được thực hiện dựa trên bệnh án của 27 người bệnh đã được chẩn đoán là ung thư đồng thời nội mạc tử cung và buồng trứng nguyên phát từ năm 2002 đến năm 2017. Kết quả và kết luận: Tuổi trung bình của người bệnh ở thời điểm chẩn đoán là 49. Các triệu chứng lâm sàng không đặc hiệu, ra máu âm đạo bất thường là dấu hiệu phổ biến nhất (70,4%). Nồng độ CA-125 tăng ở hầu hết các trường hợp (86,7%), nồng độ CA-125 trung bình là 173,7U/ml. Siêu âm phát hiện 21 trường họp có u tiểu khung (77,8%), 20 trường hợp nội mạc tử cung dày hoặc có u (40,7%) và 16 trường hợp thấy dịch cổ chướng (59,3%). Ung thư týp dạng nội mạc ở tử cung gặp phổ biến nhất (70,4%), tiếp theo là týp thanh dịch (18,5%), tế bào sáng (7,4 %), và ung thư biểu mô liên kết (3,7%). Đối với ung thư buồng trứng, hai týp mô bệnh học phổ biến là ung thư biểu mô tuyến dạng nội mạc và ung thư biểu mô tuyến thanh dịch có tỷ lệ lần lượt là 63,0% và 22,2%. Hầu hết các trường hợp được chẩn đoán ở giai đoạn sớm, 20 trường hợp ung thư nội mạc tử cung ở giai đoạn I (74,1%), 23 trường hợp ung thư buồng trứng ở giai đoạn I (85,2%).

    Abstract: Shuttlecock has become a popular sport in Vietnam, turning into a strength of the country. It is a sport with diverse techniques and is challenging to practice. To train shuttlecock athletes, coaches need to give the technical training appropriately from the early stage of the training process. Methods: The current study evaluated the effectiveness of a short-term skill training program on the technical abilities of young shuttlecock athletes. Seventeen adolescent shuttlecock athletes (10 to 11 years) playing for two shuttlecock teams in Ho Chi Minh City were divided into the experimental group (n=9) and the control group (n=8). The training program included five sessions per week (60 minutes of practicing technical skills each), and it was conducted for three months. Sixteen exercises were chosen to develop the experimental group’s technical skills, such as serving, spiking, passing, and slamming for the experimental group. The study also developed a skill-testing battery that was reliable and valid to assess the technical abilities of the participants. Results: The results showed that the experimental group’s technical performance (W=19.47%) was much better than those of the control group (W=12.85%). Conclusion: In conclusion, the short-term training program effectively enhanced the technical performance of the young shuttlecock athletes.

    Abstract: Tổ chưc Y tê Thê giơi đa xac đinh 17 bênh nhiêt đơi bi lãng quên, trong đo co 11bênh ký sinh trong tư nhiên bao gôm các bênh do sán lá gan lơn (SLGL) và sán lá gannho (SLGN) gây ra. Đê điêu tri, phòng chông viêc chân đoan chinh xac bênh, tác nhângây bênh là quan trọng. Quan sát hình thê trưng va con trương thành là tiêu chuân vàngđê chân đoan, tuy nhiên vơi nhưng loài sán lá gan cùng môt giông thương có hình tháibên ngoài giông nhau, nên viêc đinh loại băng ky thuât sinh học phân tử ngay cang đươcquan tâm trong nhưng năm gân đây.Sử dụng ky thuât real-time PCR đê đinh loại SLGL va PCR đê phân loại SLGN tạihai đia điêm nghiên cưu đại diên cho miên Bắc và Miên Trung là xã Xuân Long, huyênYên Bình, tinh Yên Bái và xã An My, huyên Tuy An, tinh Phú Yên. Vơi tổng sô 30 mâu:Môi đia điêm 10 mâu (5 mâu SLGL và 5 mâu SLGN trương thành) và 10 mâu âu trùng(ÂT) bao gôm 5 ÂT SLGL va 5 ÂT SLGN đêu thu thâp tư tinh Yên Bái. Kêt qua cho thây:vơi 10 mâu SLGL trương thanh có 7 mâu SLGL đươc xac đinh là Fasciola gigantica (05mâu thu tại xã An My, huyên Tuy An, tinh Phú Yên và 2 mâu thu tại xã Xuân Long, huyênYên Bình, tinh Yên Bái) và 03 cá thê đươc xac đinh là dạng trung gian F.gigantica/hepatica tât ca các mâu thu dạng lai đêu thâp tại xã Xuân Long, huyên YênBình, tinh Yên Bái. Trong 10 mâu SLGN trương thành có 05 mâu đươc xac đinh làOpisthochis viverrini thu thâp tại xã An My, huyên Tuy An, tinh Phú Yên; và 05 mâuClorosis sinensis thu thâp xã Xuân Long, huyên Yên Bình, tinh Yên Bái.     Abstract: Epigenetic alterations found in all human cancers are promising targets for anticancer therapy. In this sense, histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACIs) are interesting anticancer agents that play an important role in the epigenetic regulation of cancer cells. Here, we report 15 novel hydroxamic acid-based histone deacetylase inhibitors with quinazolinone core structures. Five compounds exhibited antiproliferative activity with IC50 values of 3.4–37.8 µM. Compound 8 with a 2-mercaptoquinazolinone cap moiety displayed the highest antiproliferative efficacy against MCF-7 cells. For the HDAC6 target selectivity study, compound 8 displayed an IC50 value of 2.3 µM, which is 29.3 times higher than those of HDAC3, HDAC4, HDAC8, and HDAC11. Western blot assay proved that compound 8 strongly inhibited tubulin acetylation, a substrate of HDAC6. Compound 8 also displayed stronger inhibition activity against HDAC11 than the control drug Belinostat. The inhibitory mechanism of action of compound 8 on HDAC enzymes was then explored using molecular docking study. The data revealed a high binding affinity (−7.92 kcal/mol) of compound 8 toward HDAC6. In addition, dock pose analysis also proved that compound 8 might serve as a potent inhibitor of HDAC11.
