Abstract:
Several studies suggest that measurement of plasma neutrophil gelatinase‐associated lipocalin (pNGAL) after cardiac surgery can predict the subsequent development of acute kidney injury (AKI). This study investigates the predictive value of pNGAL for AKI in ICU patients after major non‐cardiac surgery. In this cohort pNGAL appears to be a useful adjunctive tool for the prediction of early AKI that correlates with its severity and need of renal replacement therapy, although it is acknowledged that the benefit of adding pNGAL into clinical AKI prediction model is marginal.
