Abstract:
The ν3 band of TeF6 is studied at a low rotational and vibrational temperature using a tunable diode laser. The vibration–rotation lines are measured in the 752 to 759 cm−1 range with a Doppler-limited resolution. Five spectroscopic constants, ν3, B3, Bζ3, α220, and α224, are determined for the four major isotopic species, 130TeF6, 128TeF6, 126TeF6, and 125TeF6. Only the Q-branch peaks are measured for 124TeF6 and 122TeF6. Harmonic force constants for the F1u block and two anharmonic force constants, frrr and F335, are calculated for SeF6, TeF6, and WF6 from the spectroscopic constants determined by free jet measurements. Isotopic dependence of B0−B3, α220, and α224 are calculated for these molecules and compared with experimental values. Similarity in structure of the ν3 Q-branch of hexafluorides is discussed on the basis of frequency correlation between ω1 and ω2.
