Abstract: Induction motors are popularly used in various applications because of the proposed modest construction, substantiated process, and limited size of specific power. The traditional AC traction drives are experimentally analyzed. There is a high circulating current due to the high Common-Mode Voltage (CMV). The high Circulating Bearing Current (CBC) is a major problem in conventional two-level voltage source inverter fed parallel-connected sensor-based induction motors for traction applications. A sensorless method is well known for shrinking costs and enhancing the reliability of an induction motor drive. The modified artificial neural network-based model reference adaptive system is designed to realize speed estimation methods for the sensorless drive. Four dissimilar multilevel inverter network topologies are being implemented to reduce CBC in the proposed sensorless traction motor drives. The multilevel inverter types are T-bridge, Neutral Point Clamped Inverter (NPC), cascaded H-bridge, and modified reduced switch topologies. The four methods are compared, and the best method has been identified in terms of 80% less CMV compared to the conventional one. The modified cascaded H-bridge inverter reduces the CBC of the proposed artificial neural network-based parallel connected induction motor; it is 50% compared to the conventional method. The CBC of the modified method is analyzed and associated with the traditional method. Finally, the parallel-connected induction motor traction drive hardware is implemented, and the performance is analyzed.

Abstract: An induction motor is generally used in industrial applications because it is reliable, robust, and low cost. Reliability is one of the essential parameters based on which the motor is selected, and the induction motor primarily comes into force. The well-founded induction motor gives good results under various operating states. To achieve this, the values of the motor are kept in mind. Dynamic simulation plays a significant part in evaluating the model’s design process to eliminate design errors in typical construction types and when testing the motor drive system. The induction motor is modeled in a synchronously revolving rotor flux-oriented frame, which is used as a reference. For sensorless vector control and induction motor control methods, accurate knowledge of a few induction motor parameters is necessary. The presentation of the drive will degrade if the original data in the motor do not match the values utilized in the controller. Various mechanisms have been developed to calculate the online and offline parameters of the induction machine for its application in high-performance drives. The foremost grail of this review paper is to present dynamic modeling and other considerable approaches used for estimating the induction motor parameter. This paper also constitutes some simulation examples related to dynamic modeling and parameter estimation techniques, which may be useful for specialists in the field of electric drive control systems.

Abstract: Electric vehicles are becoming more demanding these days. In this project the possibility of using Ackerman steering with electric drive servomotor is explained. Scalability is the advantage of using this mechanism which can be adopted for four-wheel vehicle system as well. The objective of this project is to do design a system using Ackerman steering which determines the maximum and minimum angle of the turning of the wheels. It also avoids the front tire slippage and activates pure rolling. Ackermann steering geometry is a geometric arrangement of linkages in the steering of a car or other vehicle designed to solve the problem of wheels on the inside and outside of a turn needing to trace out circles of different radii. The geometrical solution to this is for all wheels to have their axles arranged as radii of circles with a common centre point. As the rear wheels are fixed, this centre point must be on a line extended from the rear axle. Intersecting the axes of the front wheels on this line as well requires that the inside front wheel be turned, when steering, through a greater angle than the outside wheel. The microcontroller used in this project is ATMega16 andlmax232 is used for the serial data transmission.

Abstract: Harmonic Distortion in many of the industrial applications are occur primarily owing to the enormous utilization of loads with high non-linearity like power converters, speed varying drives and arc furnaces. The power semiconductor is used to achieve the variation in speed and conversion from one source to another. Mostly active filters and tuned filters are utilized to remove the harmonic included in the source current. The tuned passive filters and inductance inserted in the line reduces the harmonics but at the same time induces the resonances in most of the industrial applications. Due to this, harmonic distortion increases in the source current and voltage. This can be reduced by adding hybrid filter in the system with decreased rating of active filter in high power applications. This article deals with the various topology of hybrid filters. The working of the proposed filter design in variable inductance mode based on the pollution created in the source voltage and current is studied. In the proposed hybrid filter passive filter is tuned with seventh harmonic frequency and connected in series with active filters to reduce the harmonic distortion. DC link voltage and the active filter VA rating could be minimized. The control signal to the filter is derived from p-q theory and space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM). The performance of the system under study is simulated and noted for the THD percentage before and after the filter is added to the system and the same model is experimented with reduced voltage level.

Abstract: In most industrial applications, AC drives are used. These drives require power electronic modules to convert AC to DC and also DC to AC. The power modules used for power conversion consist of power semiconductor switches. There is distortion in the voltage and current obtained from the power modules due to non-linear behaviors of semiconductor switches. To reduce the distortion in the input current, inductors are used along with the line impedance. A high value of inductance is required to maintain the percentage of THD within limits set by the latest standards. Along with the increased size and cost, it also reduces the power factor and output DC voltage at higher loads. The use of a passive power filter (PPF) is the conventional method followed for the reduction of percentage THD and promotion of the power factor. PPFs comprise passive elements such as the resistor, inductor, and capacitor. These passive elements are connected at the point of common coupling (PCC) in shunt to compensate for the harmonics present in the input current. In this study, a modified multi-tuned passive filter is considered to reduce the source current harmonics. A bridge rectifier with resistive load, three-phase induction motor drive, and linear resistive–inductive load is connected at the point of common coupling to analyze the harmonics present in the source current, and also unbalanced created in one phase. To achieve proper selection of the resistance value for the passive filter, the class topper optimization technique is used. To validate the simulation results obtained for the multi-tuned passive filter, the hardware is implemented with a three-phase AC induction motor drive load, in which the speed of the motor is controlled with voltage by a frequency control algorithm using an FPGA controller; The 50% THD is reduced by using the fifth-order filter alone, 75% by combining the fifth- and seventh-order filters, 85% by combining the 5th-, 7th-, 11th-, 13th-, and higher-order filters, and 90% for varying loads. For single-phase AC induction motor load, THD % is reduced to 4%, and for three-phase AC induction motor drive, THD % is reduced to 10% with the same value of the filter.

Abstract: Nowadays, researchers focus on the modular multilevel converter (MMC), due to its modularity structure, effective sharing of voltages among the submodule switches, and betterment in the quality of the voltage and current waveforms. First, the conventional unified power quality conditioner is developed with two level voltage source converters connected back-to-back, which are proposed to mitigate both the voltage and current related power quality problems. Later, to improve the performances (voltage sag, swell, current harmonics, etc.) of the conventional method, multilevel inverters are used. In this paper, a modified unified power quality conditioner based on a modular multilevel converter is implemented to mitigate the voltage and current related power quality issues. The design of the MMC is very simple with a modular structure, and it also improves the performance of the system compared to the conventional methods. In this proposed topology, the voltage related compensation is implemented with a seven-level MMC, and the current compensation is achieved with a reduced four switch voltage source inverter. The developed system is simulated in the MATLAB platform, and results are validated by hardware implementation with a FPGA controller. It is observed that the developed system has less % of total harmonic distortion and reduction in voltage sag as per the prescribed IEEE 519–2014 standards and practices.
