Abstract: 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Background: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 Newer biologics, such as interleukin (IL)-17 inhibitors, make it possible to achieve complete skin clearance (CSC) in patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis. However, the clinical meaningfulness and predictive factors of CSC in daily practice have not yet been fully investigated. 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Objective: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 The study was conducted to, first, assess the impact of CSC on quality of life (QoL) improvements compared with treatment responses without clearance and, second, identify clinical parameters as predictors of CSC response in psoriasis patients treated with ixekizumab. 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Methods: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 Patients attending 26 dermatology centers across China were recruited into this real-world setting between August 2020 and May 2022. Prospective cohort study in which response to ixekizumab was assessed using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) and Dermatology Quality of Life Index (DLQI). The absolute DLQI score and DLQI (0) response at week 12 were compared between groups achieving various levels of skin clearance. A stepwise logistic regression analysis was applied to identify which baseline clinical characteristics were predictive factors for CSC. 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Results: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 After 12 weeks of treatment, 226 of 511 (44.2%) patients achieved CSC, defined as 100% improvement in PASI score (PASI-100). A significantly higher proportion of patients with CSC versus almost clear skin (PASI 90-99) achieved DLQI score of 0, corresponding to the experience of no impairment on QoL (54.4% vs. 37.7%, 〈 i 〉 p 〈 /i 〉 = 0.001). Females patients were more likely than males to achieve CSC response (odds ratio [OR] = 1.83; 95% confidence interval [CI] : 1.24–2.70), while previous biologic treatment (OR = 0.43; 95% CI: 0.24–0.81) and joint affected (OR = 0.61; 95% CI: 0.42–0.89) were significantly associated with less CSC response. 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Conclusions: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 This study highlights the fact that clinical parameters are important in determining CSC response in psoriasis. In daily practice, achieving CSC represents a clinically meaningful treatment goal, especially from the patient perspective.

Abstract: Laryngeal lesions can cause great inconvenience to patients. Early diagnosis and corresponding treatments are critical to the survival of patients. However, the diagnosis and precise removal of tumors remain a challenge under the use of a white light laryngoscope. In this work, an integrated, multifunctional laryngoscope was designed and tested for the imaging evaluation and precision laser surgery for laryngeal tissue. This integrated diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic system included two imaging modes (i.e., optical coherence tomography and white light endoscopy) and a laser ablation treatment mode. The endoscope had a common-path design to ensure that the same position could be imaged and treated simultaneously. The ex vivo porcine larynx experimental results showed that the system imaging modes could simultaneously acquire both superficial and cross-sectional images of the sample tissue, and the ablation treatment could be performed under imaging guidance. This multifunctional laryngoscope has great potential for the early diagnosis of and accurate laser ablation surgery for laryngeal tumors.

Abstract: Background and Objective. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common and painful side effect for cancer patients. The treatment of CRF by traditional Chinese medicine injection (TCMJ) is controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis and systematic review to evaluate the effect of TCMJ on CRF, with a view to providing some guidance for clinical application. Methods. We systematically searched randomized controlled studies reported through March 2020 in PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, and VIP databases. Two investigators independently screened the studies according to the predetermined criteria, extracted data, and evaluated the bias risk of the included studies, using RevMan5.3 software. Results. Twelve studies enrolling 1005 participants were included in this systematic review. We found that TCMJ could improve the clinical efficacy of CRF patients (RR = 1.24, 95% CI: 1.05–1.46, P = 0.01 ), ameliorate fatigue status (RR = 1.44, 95% CI: 1.27–1.65, P 〈 0.00001 ), and improve quality of life (MD = 8.34, 95% CI: 3.31–13.37, P = 0.001 ), but there was no statistical significance in the fatigue score (MD = −1.10, 95% CI: −2.23–0.04, P = 0.06 ). Referring to the number of adverse events, the safety of TCMJ was good. Subgroup analysis showed that TCMJ could improve clinical efficacy, fatigue, and quality of life in a short time (≤4 weeks). Among them, tonic TCMJ could improve the clinical efficacy. TCMJ had advantages in improving fatigue of lung cancer and gastric cancer. In addition, life quality of lung cancer patients improved significantly. Conclusion. Current research evidence showed that TCMJ could improve the clinical efficacy, fatigue status, and life quality of patients with CRF. In addition, we found that TCMJ could improve the clinical efficacy of CRF patients in a short period of time. Tonic TCMJ could improve the clinical efficacy, but heat-clearing TCMJ could not. Life quality and fatigue status of lung cancer patients improved significantly. However, due to the sample size and quality of the included studies, the results of this analysis should be treated with caution. The above conclusions still need to be verified by more large-sample and high-quality randomized controlled trials.

Abstract: Importance: The incidence of dyslipidemia increases after menopause. Menopause hormone therapy (MHT) is recommended for menopause related disease. However, it is benefit for lipid profiles is inconclusive. Objective: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to evaluate the effects of MHT on lipid profile in postmenopausal women. Evidence Review: Related articles were searched on PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases from inception to December 2020. Data extraction and quality evaluation were performed independently by two reviewers. The methodological quality was assessed using the “Cochrane Risk of Bias checklist”. Results: Seventy-three eligible studies were selected. The results showed that MHT significantly decreased the levels of TC (WMD: −0.43, 95% CI: −0.53 to −0.33), LDL-C (WMD: −0.47, 95% CI: −0.55 to −0.40) and LP (a) (WMD: −49.46, 95% CI: −64.27 to −34.64) compared with placebo or no treatment. Oral MHT led to a significantly higher TG compared with transdermal MHT (WMD: 0.12, 95% CI: 0.04–0.21). The benefits of low dose MHT on TG was also concluded when comparing with conventional-dose estrogen (WMD: −0.18, 95% CI: −0.32 to −0.03). The results also showed that conventional MHT significantly decreased LDL-C (WMD: −0.35, 95% CI: −0.50 to −0.19), but increase TG (WMD: 0.42, 95%CI: 0.18–0.65) compared with tibolone. When comparing with the different MHT regimens, estrogen (E) + progesterone (P) regimen significantly increased TC (WMD: 0.15, 95% CI: 0.09 to 0.20), LDL-C (WMD: 0.12, 95% CI: 0.07–0.17) and Lp(a) (WMD: 44.58, 95% CI:28.09–61.06) compared with estrogen alone. Conclusion and Relevance: MHT plays a positive role in lipid profile in postmenopausal women, meanwhile for women with hypertriglyceridemia, low doses or transdermal MHT or tibolone would be a safer choice. Moreover, E + P regimen might blunt the benefit of estrogen on the lipid profile. Abstract: Atomic force microscope (AFM) provides a direct method to measure the morphological and mechanical properties of cells in real time at the atomic scale with high force sensitivity and precise spatial resolution. In addition, the AFM‐based indentation method has unique advantages of small deformation and less damage to living cells. Currently, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are the most produced nanoparticles in global market and have been widely utilized in the biomedical field. Even though the AFM has been invented by Binnig, Gerber and Quate in 1985, the influence of AgNPs on cells with AFM‐based indentation method was still rarely investigated in recent years. In this research, we investigated the comparison of the effects of AgNPs on the two types of cancerous cells of A549 cells and SMMC‐7721 cells with emphasis on the morphological and mechanical changes by utilizing inverted optical microscopy, FIB, two types of AFM modes of force‐volume (FV) mode and force spectroscopy (FS) mode. The results showed that the morphology changed little, but the mechanical properties of height, roughness, adhesion force and Young's moduli of two cancerous cells varied significantly with the stimulation of different concentrations of AgNPs. This research has provided insights into the characterization of the effects of the various concentrations of AgNPs on the cancerous cells in vitro by utilizing AFM methodologies for disease therapy.

Abstract: Metamaterial absorbers (MAs) provide new miniaturization, integration, and high‐performance solution for infrared polarization imaging systems. However, it is challenging for past MAs to obtain broadband absorption and a high extinction ratio simultaneously. Herein, a long‐wave infrared broadband polarization‐selective MA with an ultrahigh extinction ratio is proposes and numerically demonstrated. The MA is composed of a metal–dielectric–metal sandwich structure. The cut‐wire resonator on the top layer and the wire pair on the bottom layer provide the MA with excellent polarization selectivity. In the wavelength range of 8.28–14.15 μm, the absorption of the Transverse Magnetic (TM) wave is greater than 90%, while the absorption of the Transverse Electric (TE) wave is less than 0.15%, and the average extinction ratio reaches 724. The high extinction ratio remains to reach 119 when the MA is integrated into a silicon substrate. This work promises to bring new solutions to infrared polarization imaging.

Abstract: (1) Introduction: Screen time may influence preschoolers’ food consumption. However, there is limited evidence regarding preschoolers, especially in China. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the association between screen time and the consumption of vegetables, fruits, snacks, and sugar sweetened beverages (SSBs). (2) Methods: Participants (1567 caregivers) were recruited from six kindergartens in Hunan, China. Caregivers completed the questionnaire, which included the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and questions regarding their children’s daily screen time. (3) Results: The mean screen time of preschoolers was 1.36 ± 1.26 h, and the proportion of children who spent more than one hour on screens was 54.3% in the overall sample. Children with longer screen time consumed vegetables and fruits less frequently, while having a higher consumption of snacks and SSBs. After adjustment of sociodemographic confounders, children’s eating behaviors and parental feeding practices, the association of screen time with vegetables and SSBs still remained significant. (4) Conclusions: Screen time exposure needs to be monitored in preschool children, which was negatively associated with their consumption of vegetables and fruits, whereas it was positively associated with snacks and SSBs. Future research should focus more on the impact of screen time on children’s unhealthy behaviors and dietary patterns.
