Abstract:
KCN reacts with an excess of boiling SO 3 yielding (besides potassium polysulphate, sulfur dioxide, and paracyanogen) disulfuryl di‐isocyanate, S 2 O 5 (NCO) 2 (m. p. 27.0°C), and N,N′‐ bis (sulfur trioxide)‐dicyanogen, (CN) 2 · 2 SO 3 . The latter compound, being also formed by direct synthesis from (CN) 2 and SO 3 , has salt‐like character, is hygroscopic and decomposes above 180°C without melting. It is mainly hydrolized to sulfate, oxamide, and oxalic acid, respectively.
