Abstract:
Introduction: It is vital for nurses to have knowledge of electrocardiography to detect cardiac problems early in emergency services with high patient density, to provide early intervention to the patient and to increase survival.
Aim: This study was conducted to determine the effect of electrocardiography training given to nurses working in the emergency department on knowledge levels. Method: Ninety-five nurses who worked in the emergency department of a training and research hospital participated in the electrocardiography training, and filled out all the questionnaires were taken as a sample. The research was designed in a retrospective descriptive type. The training evalua-tion records of the electrocardiography training held in December 2021 in the emergency clinic were used. Number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t test for dependent and independent groups, ANOVA test were used
in the evaluation of the data. Results: The mean age of the nurses was 26.70 ± 4.08 years, 63.2% were women, 77.9% were single, and 83.2% were undergraduates. The mean score of the nurses participating in the study was 8.60 ± 4.14 before the training, it increased to 15.13 ± 3.84 after the training (t = 11.046, p & lt; 0.05). The mean score of the nurses who had more than 15 years of experience and received electrocardiography training before the education was statistically higher than before the educa-tion (p & lt; 0.05).
Conclusion: The electrocardiography training increased the knowledge level of nurses. Pre-professional and in-service training should be increased to prevent the negative effects of nurses' lack of knowledge.
