Abstract: Background: An assessment of methods and tools in interprofessional education (IPE) needs to be conducted to guarantee that the set learning objectives (LOs) or competencies are achieved, especially in community settings. This assessment is essential since in community settings, facilitators and students are not in the same frame, while direct observation is preferable in IPE. The implementation of methods and tools for assessment varies. Mostly, the assessment does not cover all competencies of IPE. Further identification of the way the assessment is conducted as well as the IPE competencies assessed is pivotal.Purpose: This study aimed to review the implementation of IPE in community settings, especially the assessment conducted on the methods and tools used along with the assessors involved and the competencies achieved. Methods: A systematic review was employed as a method in this study. Relevant articles from Science Direct, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Scopus were screened based on the inclusion criteria: publication between 2010–2020, research and review articles, full-text articles, conducted in community settings, and involved assessment in acquiring the competencies. This review included 12 out of 1,273 screened articles. The articles were analyzed qualitatively by identifying the keywords, categories, and themes. Results: The results showed the assessment conducted and the competencies achieved in IPE. The assessment included methods and tools as well as the assessors involved. Most existing studies used students’ perceptions or reflections as the methods and involved less assessors such as supervisors or family members. Meanwhile, the assessment tools focused on certain competencies, such as roles and responsibilities, ethics and values, teamwork, and communication. However, no study assessed all competencies. Conclusion: The analysis resulted in two large topics, i.e., the assessment, which includes the assessment methods and tools as well as assessors involved, and the competencies achieved. It is recommended to conduct further studies to develop objective assessment methods, comprehensive assessment tools, and generic competencies or learning outcomes.

Abstract: Community health problem(s) needs to be solved collaboratively among the health care team. Interprofessional Education (IPE) is implemented to facilitate health students to collaborate before they join in the working world. The purpose of this study was to identify the experience of students, lecturers, and family members in the implementation of IPE in a community setting. All (465) sixth semester medical, nursing, and nutrition students in the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Diponegoro participated in the IPE program. Each small group contains 4-5 students who worked together in the community setting to identify family health problems, implement interventions, and evaluate the results. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted to evaluate the implementation. Twenty-four medical, nursing, and nutrition students, eight lecturers, and five family members were involved in this study. FGD was conducted separately among groups. The implementation is divided into four phases, namely, preparation, process, evaluation, and benefit. Unclear competencies and roles-responsibilities of each student in the program was the most problem faced during preparation, while obstacles during the process were difficult to set a schedule among team members. Conducting an objective assessment of both methods and tools needs to be concerned in the evaluation phase. However, students, lecturers, and family members appreciated the program and preferred to sustain the program. IPE can be implemented in a community setting to solve health problems and it can facilitate students to collaborate in a team, but it needs to be settled including preparation, process, and evaluation.

Abstract: Spirulinasp.is an alga that has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential.Phycocyanin contained in Spirulina platensis can reduce tumor necrosis factor-? levels, neutrophils, and M2 macrophages in inflammation. This research aims to investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of S. platensisin a mice wound model. Thirty-two male Wistar rats were incised and divided into 4 groups. The first therapeutic group (X1) received S. platensisextract at a dose of 500 mg/kgBW/day, and the second therapeutic group received S. platensisextract at a dose of 750 mg/kgBW/day. The negative control group (C1) received a saline solution and the positive control group (C2) received diclofenac sodium 20mg/kgBW/day. Serum TNF-? levels examined by the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assaymethod. Neutrophils and M2 macrophages were calculated by tissue biopsy and hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Data analysis was performed with ANOVA test and LSD Post-Hoc Test. The average levels of serum TNF-? on the 14-day were 394.50; 180.33; 2,980.33; and 607.42 pg/ml for X1, X2, C1 and C2, respectively. The average neutrophils number on the 14-day were 8.00; 6.83; 14.67; and 11.17 for X1, X2, C1 and C2, respectively. The average macrophage number in the 14-day was 15.50; 19.17; 6.33; and 11.17 for X1, X2, C1 and C2, respectively. We found significant differences between TNF-? levels, the number of neutrophils, and the number of M2 macrophages. The administration of S. platensisextract at a dose of 750 mg/ kgBW/day reduces serum TNF-? levels, neutrophil count, and increases M2 macrophages in skin incisional mice model.

Abstract: Background: The learning achievement of students in higher education is reflected in their grade point average (GPA). Selection types in student admission, learning motivation, and learning strategies are believed to influence the effective and efficient learning achievement, thus facilitating achieving the desired learning objectives. Medical students should have good behavior and learning styles that eventually can help to make lifelong learning. Students that can organize themselves to learning tend to use a good strategy in running the study. Learning motivation and learning strategies used by the learner will affect student results. This study aimed to compare the 3 types of selection in student admission to learning motivation, learning strategies and achievement of students of the Faculty of Medicine.Method: This was a quantitative study using a cross sectional design. The subjects were preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine of Halu Oleo University, Kendari, consisting of 161 first-year students, 137 second year students, and 148 third year students. This study used a questionnaire ‘Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ)’ to measure learning motivation and learning strategies. The results of MSLQ and GPA were compared based on the type of student selection. Results: Within all categories of learning achievement, the highest scores were achieved by the students from selection of SBMPTN, followed by SNMPTN, then SLMPTN. Mean of extrinsic goal orientation of students with all types of student selection was high, whereas the lowest mean was learning self-confidence. Learning strategy with high score was repetition, and the lowest score was critical thinking in students with all types of student’s selection. There was a positive relationship between admission style, learning motivation, learning strategies and achievement of students. Conclusion: Students that were selected by SBMPTN have highest score of learning achievement, and the lowest score were students from SLMPTN. There was no significant different of motivation and learning strategy between all type of student selection.

Abstract: BackgroundPoor air and mask quality in the work environment increase the risks of inflammation, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, ongoing oxidative stress, and superoxide dismutase 3 (SOD3) levels in the airways. The study aimed to investigate the effect of the Nephrolepis exaltata - Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (NE-HRS) combination herbal mask on the airways, as measured by ROS and SOD3 levels in the nasal wash of textile industry workers.MethodsThis was a pre- and post-test randomized controlled trial, consisting of 30 subjects with ³5-year working time, conducted for eight weeks and monitored every ten days. Subjects were randomized into 3 groups, regular surgical mask group (n=10), NE-HRS combination herbal mask group (n=10) and factory mask group (n=10). SOD3 and ROS levels were determined using ELISA. Data were analyzed with One-way ANOVA and multiple comparison tests. Results ROS levels decreased significantly in all groups (p=0.004). Regular surgical masks decreased ROS levels by 67.90 ± 50.66 pg/mL, NE-HRS combination herbal masks by 49.91 ± 45.06 pg/mL, and factory masks by 193.96 ± 128.36 pg/ml. SOD3 levels also decreased but not significantly (p=0.053). Differences in ROS levels between surgical mask and NE-HRS combination herbal mask was not significant (p=0.796). ConclusionHerbal masks laminated with NE-HRS combination significantly reduced ROS levels among textile industry workers. NE-HRS combination herbal masks have a similar protective effect to the regular surgical mask.

Abstract: Background: Excessive amounts of free radicals beyond the antioxidant levels in the body will cause a condition called oxidative stress. Nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) are produced under conditions of oxidative stress. Glutathione (GSH) is the most endogenous antioxidant synthesized in humans. Therefore this study aims to prove whether the administration of glutathione as an adjuvant therapy can reduce levels of NO and MDA in peritonitis. Methods: This is an experimental study with a post-test-only control group design. Twenty-four Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups (6 rats/group). The first group (C) was a control group. The second group (P) was induced by peritonitis. The third group (P+Cef) was peritonitis-induced groups with given Ceftriaxone injection as therapy. The fourth group (P+Cef+Glu) was peritonitis-induced groups with given Ceftriaxone injection and glutathione as adjuvant therapy. After 24 hours, blood samples were taken for examination of NO and MDA levels. Data is considered significant if the p-value 〈 0.05.Results: There was a significant increase in NO level from Group 2 to Group 4 (P 〈 0,05). There were no significant differences between MDA levels groups (P 〉 0,05).Conclusion: Glutathione as adjuvant therapy is not adequate to reduce NO and MDA levels in peritonitis.
