Abstract: The Volga basin is one of the most industrially-developed regions of Russia with a high degree of anthropogenic impact on natural ecosystems. Human influence negatively affects the species diversity and number of animals, including reptiles. There are no endemic species in the reptile fauna of the Volga basin. The herpetofauna of the region makes up 25% of the reptile fauna of Russia (Dunaev and Orlova 2017). We began to study the fauna of reptiles and their distribution in the Volga basin in 1988. Although we registered 20 reptile species in the Volga basin to date, apparently this is not a complete list of species in the region (Bakiev et al. 2004, Bakiev et al. 2009a, Bakiev et al. 2015, Kirillov et al. 2020). The distribution of reptiles in this region is not fully understood. Our dataset contains information on reptile occurrences in the Volga River basin. The dataset is based on original research by the staff of the Laboratory of Herpetology and Toxinology and Laboratory of Population Ecology of the Institute of Ecology of the Volga River basin of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Joint Directorate of the Mordovia State Nature Reserve and National Park “Smolny”. A total of 5,086 occurrences of 20 species are published for the first time with georeferencing. Many of these reptiles are listed in regional Red Data Lists. The European Pond Turtle Emys orbicularis (Linnaeus, 1758) is included in the IUCN Red List with the category “Near Threatened”.

Abstract: The culture of osteoblasts (OB) of human origin is a useful experimental model in studying bone biology, osteogenic differentiation, functions of bone proteins, oncological processes in bone tissue, testing drugs against bone desires, and many other fields. The purpose of the present study is to share a workflow that has established the conditions to efficiently isolate and grow OB cells obtained from surgically removed bones from human donors. The protocol described here also shows how to determine cell phenotype. Here we provide characteristics of cells isolated by this protocol that might help researchers to decide if such OB are suitable for the purposes of their study. Osteoblasts isolated from collagenase-treated explants of adult bones are able to proliferate and keep their phenotype in culture. OB cells have high synthetic properties. They express osteomarkers, such as RUNX2, osteocalcin, BMP2, and osteopontin both in control conditions and in an osteogenic medium that could be estimated by qPCR and immunocytochemical staining and by Western blotting. Induction of osteogenic differentiation does not dramatically influence the synthetic properties of OB cells, while the cells gain the ability to extracellular mineralization only in an osteogenic medium.

Abstract: The relevance of the regional demographic policy study in the Far East is beyond doubt. This article considers the real demographic situation in Primorsky krai and shows that its territory has seen a steady decline in the population due to natural decrease and migration outflow connected with the low standard and quality of life that in turn reduces the attractiveness of the region and makes it particularly vulnerable to global challenges. Attention is paid to the fact that under the conditions of the Russian Federation subjects' differentiation by geographical location, natural resources potential and level of socio-economic development there is no single approach to the regional demographic policy. Differences in the characteristics of the subjects lead to the necessity of developing demographic programs that would take into account the regional specifics, traditions, characteristics and needs of a particular territory. There are presented the results of the author's study of subjective assessments of the social well-being of young people in Primorsky krai and their migration intentions. The data obtained show that a significant part of young people assess the situation in Primorsky krai as unfavorable for further self-realization; the majority of respondents answered that in other regions/countries it would be easier for them to build a career, start a business, and achieve a high level of material well-being. The directions of the regional demographic policy, which allow attracting and retaining highly qualified personnel in the region, are suggested.

Abstract: Members of the genus Populus L. play an important role in the formation of forests in the northern hemisphere and are used in urban landscaping and timber production. Populus species of closely related sections show extensive hybridization. Therefore, the systematics of the genus is rather complicated, especially for poplars of hybrid origin. We aimed to assess the efficiency of application of the sex-determining region (SDR) in addition to the nuclear and chloroplast genome loci traditionally used in phylogenetic studies of poplars to investigate relationships in sections Aigeiros Duby and Tacamahaca Spach. Targeted deep sequencing of NTS 5S rDNA, ITS, DSH 2 , DSH 5 , DSH 8 , DSH 12 , DSH 29 , 6 , 15 , 16 , X18 , trnG-psbK-psbI , rps2-rpoC2 , rpoC2-rpoC1 , as well as SDR and ARR17 gene was performed for 379 poplars. The SDR and ARR17 gene together with traditionally used multicopy and single-copy loci of nuclear and chloroplast DNA allowed us to obtain a clustering that is most consistent with poplar systematics based on morphological data and to shed light on several controversial hypotheses about the origin of the studied taxa (for example, the inexpediency of separating P. koreana , P. maximowiczii , and P. suaveolens into different species). We present a scheme of relationships between species and hybrids of sections Aigeiros and Tacamahaca based on molecular genetic, morphological, and geographical data. The geographical proximity of species and, therefore, the possibility of hybridization between them appear to be more important than the affiliation of species to the same section. We speculate that sections Aigeiros and Tacamahaca are distinguished primarily on an ecological principle (plain and mountain poplars) rather than on a genetic basis. Joint analysis of sequencing data for the SDR and chloroplast genome loci allowed us to determine the ancestors of P. × petrovskoe – P. laurifolia (female tree) × P. × canadensis (male tree), and P. × rasumovskoe – P. nigra (female tree) × P. suaveolens (male tree). Thus, the efficiency of using the SDR for the study of poplars of sections Aigeiros and Tacamahaca and the prospects of its use for the investigation of species of the genus Populus were shown.

Abstract: Background. A comparative study of the dynamics of iodine desorption from drugs containing iodoform and used after tooth extraction to preserve blood clots and prevention, treatment of inflammatory complications. This took into account the type and form of drugs. The content and desorption of iodine determine the duration of local exposure to the drug on the tissues of the tooth well. Objectives. To study the physico-chemical properties of iodoform containing topical preparations for the prevention and treatment of alveolitis of the jaw. Methods. The objects of the study were complex multicomponent preparations of domestic production, presented in the dental market in the form of gauze bandage, collagen sponge, paste, powder containing iodoform. A standard titrimetric method was used to quantify the iodine content in aqueous systems. For the analysis of changes of iodine content in aqueous model systems applied to the spectrophotometric method in which the concentration of a substance was assessed according to the calibration chart from 0 minutes to 48 hours. In the model solution, the albumin and pH were changed, iodine concentration was determined in 1, 15 and 30 min. Results. Medications significantly differed in both the number of iodoform and desorption in the aquatic environment of the iodine. However, the content of iodoform in the preparations did not exceed the maximum permissible concentration. Desorption of iodine from the bandage after 15 minutes is significantly less than from the viscose flagellum. Desorption of iodine from the collagen sponge remains constant for 24 hours., but increases after 48 hours. Desorption of iodine from the powder is reduced after 45 minutes. Desorption of iodine from the paste gradually increases, reaches a maximum of 105 minutes and persists after 48 hours. In the albumin-bound state, iodine is more easily desorbed in an acidic medium, and at low concentrations of iodine, desorption in a neutral medium is significantly less. Conclusions. The duration of action of iodoform when applied topically affect the dosage form of the carrier (fiber, sponge, paste, powder), the concentration of the drug, the pH and albumin content in the aqueous medium.
