Abstract: Aims: This study, in general, determined experts’ point of views on developing local organic bazaars in Turkey. Participants were 103 experts engaged with organic bazaars in different provinces of Turkey. The specific objectives were to identify a general profile of the expers engaged in organic bazaars in Turley, to determine respondents’ opinions about the current status of organic bazaars, and to develop recommendations for the development of organic bazaars in the future. Place and Duration of Study: Questionnaires were completed in three different workshops held in İstanbul, İzmir, and Samsun provinces in 2018. Data analysis and writing the manuscript carried out at Ondokuz Mayis University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Economics, Samsun Turkey. Methodology: Experts of organic bazaars from producers, sellers, controllers, ministry employees, or municipality representatives served as respondents. This study used descriptive statistics to analyze quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative responses. Results: Respondents stressed that local organic bazaars in Turkey will be very effective in producing and consuming of organic commodities. As the bazaars are distribured across the country, more farmers will be engaged in organic production while more consumers will have access to organic products at reasonable prices. However, deficiencies particularly in management and legal regulation of local organic bazaars were also noted. Main measures to be taken to establish and improve organic bazaars included increasing trust and transparency, establishing sample organic bazaars in all provinces, focusing both on domestic and international markets, overcoming bureaucratic barriers, implementing a favorable price policy, examining successful organic bazaars, and publicizing organic commodities. Conclusion: In order to overcome the obstacles and develop local organic bazaars in Turkey, cooperation among the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Trade, and local municipalities is necessary. In addition, NGOs at local levels should take initiative to support organic bazaars. Municipalities should provide adequate places accessible for consumers, producers, and processors. Moreover, social spaces should be established in organic markets where consumers, families and children can spend good time.

Abstract: Rural tourism is considered as one of the essential elements making significant contributions to rural development in many developing countries. A well planned and adequately operated rural tourism sector provides job opportunities for local people, increases living standards, alleviates poverty, prevents migration, and ultimately makes it possible for rural people to enjoy living at their original places of residencies. All of these benefits encourage governments and all other relevant stakeholders to put more emphasis on rural tourism activities when planning and to implement rural development programs. The primary aim of this study was to examine the opportunities of sustainable rural tourism in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey. It based on an extensive review of related literature, governmental reports, and experiences and observations of the researchers in the region. The study revealed that the Eastern Black Sea region has a remarkable rural tourism potential and it will make significant contributions to rural development in Turkey. Particularly highlands, thermal hotels, rural activities, farms, and agribusiness are increasingly attracting many domestic and international tourists in every passing year. However, environmental dimension of rural tourism is under risk because of unplanned housing and road constructions which put more pressure on agricultural lands and rural landscape. For this reason, it is important to consider economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainability when preparing and implementing rural tourism programs for the region.

Abstract: Although there is no universally accepted definition of organic farming, most of the scientists focus on an economic, social, and environmentally sustainable agricultural production system that prohibits chemicals, livestock feed additives, and growth regulators. Organic farming in a region must provide a sustainable livelihood for farmers, a clean environment for all living organisms, and healthy food items at reasonable prices for consumers. The overall purpose of this study is to examine the current state and potential developments of organic agriculture in Turkey. The paper first reviews the principles of organic agriculture, then gives information about the legislative process and developments of organic agriculture in Turkey. Specific objectives are to examine the legal structure, organic production, marketing of organic products, and strategies to develop organic agriculture in Turkey. Qualitative research methods were applied to accomplish the objectives of this study. For this reason, journal articles, books, websites, state statistics, and official reports were used for data collection. The basic outline of the paper organized considering the overall purpose and specific objectives of the study.

Abstract: The aim of the research is to evaluate the adoption of agricultural innovations and sources of information in dairy cattle farms. The data were obtained by administering a questionnaire to 70 dairy farms in Bafra and Canik districts of Samsun. The results of the research showed that knowledge and innovations in dairy cattle farms are not sufficiently adopted and traditional methods are commonly applied. Nearly half of the dairy cattle owners (47.1%) stated that they were aware of the trainings related to dairy cattle breeding, while others did not. The most important reason for those being aware of the training programs but not participating was that they believed that they had enough information about dairy cattle with 51.5%. Other reasons were that they received information from neighboring farmers (27.3%) and did not find enough time to participate in the trainings (21.2%). The most preferred sources of information about innovations related to dairy cattle were family members (72.9%), and neighboring farmers (67.1%); and the most preferred extension method among mass media methods was television (87.1%). The applicability of agricultural knowledge and innovations transferred to dairy cattle farmers and their adoption will significantly change the understanding of production in rural society. Developing positive attitude towards knowledge and innovation will lead to the elimination of wrong practices and facilitate the transformation of dairy farms to a modern structure.
