    Abstract: Accumulating neuroimaging studies in humans have shown that acupuncture can modulate a widely distributed brain network in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients. Acupuncture at different acupoints could exert different modulatory effects on the brain network. However, whether acupuncture at real or sham acupoints can produce different effects on the brain network in MCI or AD patients remains unclear. Using resting-state fMRI, we reported that acupuncture at Taixi (KI3) induced amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) change of different brain regions in MCI patients from those shown in the healthy controls. In MCI patients, acupuncture at KI3 increased or decreased ALFF in the different regions from those activated by acupuncture in the healthy controls. Acupuncture at the sham acupoint in MCI patients activated the different brain regions from those in healthy controls. Therefore, we concluded that acupuncture displays more significant effect on neuronal activities of the above brain regions in MCI patients than that in healthy controls. Acupuncture at KI3 exhibits different effects on the neuronal activities of the brain regions from acupuncture at sham acupoint, although the difference is only shown at several regions due to the close distance between the above points.

    Abstract: Liver regeneration after two-thirds partial hepatectomy (PH) is a clinically significant repair process for restoring proper liver architecture. Although microRNA-155 (miR-155) has been found to serve as a crucial microRNA regulator that controls liver cell function and proliferation, little is known about its specific role in the regenerating liver. Using a mouse model with miR-155 overexpression or miR-155 knockout, we investigated the molecular mechanisms of miR-155 in liver regeneration. We found a marked induction of miR-155 in C57BL/6 mice after PH. Furthermore, RL-m155 mice showed enhanced liver regeneration as a result of accelerated progression of hepatocytes into the cell cycle, mainly through an increase in cyclin levels. However, proliferation of hepatocytes was delayed in miR-155-deficient livers. Expression of suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) was dramatically downregulated in the process of liver regeneration, and enhancement of SOCS1 contributed to impaired proliferation of hepatocytes. Additionally, in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that adenovirus- or adeno-associated virus-mediated overexpression of SOCS1 attenuated improved liver regeneration induced by miR-155 overexpression. Our study shows that miR-155 is a pro-proliferative regulator in liver regeneration by facilitating the cell cycle and directly targeting SOCS1. NEW & NOTEWORTHY Our findings suggest a microRNA-155 (miR-155)-mediated positive regulation pattern in liver regeneration. A series of in vivo and in vitro studies showed that miR-155 upregulation enhanced partial hepatectomy-induced proliferation of hepatocytes by promoting the cell cycle without inducing DNA damage or apoptosis. Suppressor of cytokine signaling 1, a target gene of miR-155, antagonized the proliferation-promoting effect of miR-155. Therefore, pharmacological intervention targeting miR-155 may be therapeutically beneficial in various liver diseases.

    Abstract: Potential reverse causality and unmeasured confounding factors are common biases in most neuroimaging studies on tinnitus and central correlates. The causal association of tinnitus with neuroimaging features also remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship of tinnitus with neuroplastic alterations using Mendelian randomization. Design: Summary-level data from a genome-wide association study of tinnitus were derived from UK Biobank (n = 117,882). The genome-wide association study summary statistics for 4 global-brain tissue and 14 sub-brain gray matter volumetric traits were also obtained (n = up to 33,224). A bidirectional Mendelian randomization analysis was conducted to explore the causal relationship between tinnitus and neuroanatomical features at global-brain and sub-brain levels. Results: Genetic susceptibility to tinnitus was causally associated with increased white matter volume (odds ratio [OR] = 2.361, 95% confidence interval [CI] , 1.033 to 5.393) and total brain volume (OR = 2.391, 95% CI, 1.047 to 5.463) but inversely associated with cerebrospinal fluid volume (OR = 0.362, 95% CI, 0.158 to 0.826). A smaller gray matter volume in the left Heschl’s gyrus and right insular cortex and larger gray matter volume in the posterior division of the left parahippocampal gyrus may lead to an increased risk for tinnitus (OR = 0.978, 95% CI, 0.961 to 0.996; OR = 0.987, 95% CI, 0.976 to 0.998; and OR = 1.015, 95% CI, 1.001 to 1.028, respectively). Conclusions: Genetic susceptibility to tinnitus was causally associated with increased white matter volume and total brain volume. Volume alteration in several cortical regions may indicate a higher tinnitus risk, and further research is recommended for causality inference at the level of sub-brain regions. Our findings provide genetic evidence for elucidating the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of tinnitus-related neuroanatomical abnormalities.

    Abstract: Crowd sensing is a perception mode that recruits mobile device users to complete tasks such as data collection and cloud computing. For the cloud computing platform, crowd sensing can not only enable users to collaborate to complete large-scale awareness tasks but also provide users for types, social attributes, and other information for the cloud platform. In order to improve the effectiveness of crowd sensing, many incentive mechanisms have been proposed. Common incentives are monetary reward, entertainment & gamification, social relation, and virtual credit. However, there are rare incentives based on privacy protection basically. In this paper, we proposed a mixed incentive mechanism which combined privacy protection and virtual credit called a blockchain-based location privacy protection incentive mechanism in crowd sensing networks. Its network structure can be divided into three parts which are intelligence crowd sensing networks, confusion mechanism, and blockchain. We conducted the experiments in the campus environment and the results shows that the incentive mechanism proposed in this paper has the efficacious effect in stimulating user participation.

    Abstract: Aims: In this retrospective, multi-center study, we aimed to estimate the diagnostic accuracy and generalizability of an established deep learning (DL)-based fully automated algorithm in detecting coronary stenosis on coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). Methods and results: A total of 527 patients (33.0% female, mean age: 62.2 ± 10.2 years) with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) who underwent CCTA and invasive coronary angiography (ICA) were enrolled from 27 hospitals from January 2016 to August 2019. Using ICA as a standard reference, the diagnostic accuracy of the DL algorithm in the detection of ≥50% stenosis was compared to that of expert readers. In the vessel-based evaluation, the DL algorithm had a higher sensitivity (65.7%) and negative predictive value (NPV) (78.8%) and a significantly higher area under the curve (AUC) (0.83, p & lt; 0.001). In the patient-based evaluation, the DL algorithm achieved a higher sensitivity (90.0%), NPV (52.2%) and AUC (0.81). Generalizability analysis of the DL algorithm was conducted by comparing its diagnostic performance in subgroups stratified by sex, age, geographic area and CT scanner type. The AUCs of the DL algorithm in the aforementioned subgroups ranged from 0.79 to 0.86 and from 0.75 to 0.93 in the vessel-based and patient-based evaluations, both without significant group differences ( p & gt; 0.05). The DL algorithm significantly reduced post-processing time (160 [IQR:139–192] seconds), in comparison to manual work ( p & lt; 0.001). Conclusions: The DL algorithm performed no inferior to expert readers in CAD diagnosis on CCTA and had good generalizability and time efficiency.

    Abstract: Purpose. We aim to develop and validate a machine learning model by enhanced MRI to determine the pathological grading of meningiomas with unsupervised clustering image analysis method, which are multihabitat to reflect the inherent heterogeneity of tumors. Materials and Methods. A total of 120 patients with meningiomas confirmed by postoperative pathology were included in the study, including 60 patients with low-grade meningiomas (WHO grade I) and 60 patients with high-grade meningiomas (WHO grade II and WHO grade III). All patients underwent complete head enhanced magnetic resonance scans before surgery or any anti-tumor treatment. Enrolled patients in the group received surgical resection and obtained postoperative pathological data. The patients in the training group (84 people) and the test group (36 people) were randomly divided into two groups according to the ratio of 7 to 3. Multi-habitat features were extracted from MRI images based on enhanced T1. Machine learning method was used to model, which was used to distinguish high-grade meningioma from low-grade meningioma. At the same time, the obtained machine learning model was calibrated and evaluated. Results. In patients with low-grade meningioma and high-grade meningioma, we found significant differences in Silhouette coefficient (P 〈 0.05). In the machine learning model, the area under the curve was 0.838 in the training group (sensitivity, 67.65%; specificity, 88.82%) and 0.73 in the test group (sensitivity, 69.05%; specificity, 71.43%). After the analysis of calibration curve and decision curve analysis, the model had shown the potential of great application value. Conclusions. Multi-habitat analysis based on enhanced MRI (T1) could accurately predict the pathological grading of meningiomas. This unsupervised image-based method could reflect the direct heterogeneity between high-grade meningiomas and low-grade meningiomas, which is of great significance for patients’ treatment and prevention of recurrence.

    Abstract: Accumulating evidence supports the hypothesis that white matter (WM) abnormalities are involved in the pathophysiology of bulimia nervosa (BN); however, findings from in vivo neuroimaging studies have been inconsistent. We aimed to investigate the possible brain WM alterations, including WM volume and microstructure, in patients with BN. We recruited 43 BN patients and 31 healthy controls (HCs). All participants underwent structural and diffusion tensor imaging. Differences in WM volume and microstructure were evaluated using voxel‐based morphometry, tract‐based spatial statistics, and automated fibre quantification analysis. Compared with HCs, BN patients showed significantly decreased fractional anisotropy in the middle part of the corpus callosum (nodes 31–32) and increased mean diffusivity in the right cranial nerve V (CN V) (nodes 27–33 and nodes 55–88) and vertical occipital fasciculus (VOF) (nodes 58–85). Moreover, we found decreased axial diffusivity in the right inferior fronto‐occipital fasciculus (node 67) and increased radial diffusivity in the CN V (nodes 22–34 and nodes 52–89) and left VOF (nodes 60–66 and nodes 81–85). Meanwhile, WM microstructural changes were correlated with patients' clinical manifestations. We did not find any significant differences in WM volume and the main WM fibre bundle properties between BN patients and HCs. Taken together, these findings provide that BN shows significant brain WM reorganization, but primarily in microstructure (part of WM fibre bundle), which is not sufficient to cause changes in WM volume. The automated fibre quantification analysis could be more sensitive to detect the subtle pathological changes in a point or segment of the WM fibre bundle.
