Abstract: Wound infections are one of the most common hospital acquired infections and are an important cause of morbidity and account for 70-80% mortality. The Purpose of the current study was to determine the commonest bacteria associated with wound infections at Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar January 2019 to June 2020. A total of 100 culture positive samples from patients with mean age of 6.2+0.25 were analyzed. Patient history and clinical findings were collected on a pre-coded form. Pus samples or wound swabs were collected from infected wounds and were analyzed through culturing and biochemical methods for aerobic bacteria. A total of 109 bacteria were isolated from 100 samples with almost same frequency of Gram positive cocci 54(49.54%) and Gram negative bacilli 55(50.45%). Most frequently isolated organism was S. aureus 45(41.28%) followed by Pseudomonas species 20(18.35%).From this study we conclude that Wound infection remains an ongoing problem which, although, cannot be completely eradicated, however by taking prompt control measures against the most commonly isolated organism and proper care of wound may lead to the minimum of wound infection. Keywords: Abscess, wound infection, padiatric surgical wounds, arobic bacteria

Abstract: Results of 130 tracheostomies performed with in 5 – 7 days of admission in intensive care unit with acute neurological deficit were collected, with nosocomial pneumonia and mortality within 28 days as outcome parameters. There were 37 deaths (28.5%) and 4 cases (3.1%) of nosocomial pneumonia in subjects. Early tracheostomy was found beneficial in patients admitted in intensive care unit.

Abstract: The study employs CGE model, on the data provided in SAM 2001-02 for Pakistan designed by Dorosh et al. (2006), to investigate the impact of Pakistan’s exports on the major aggregates of the economy. To this end, three experiments have been conducted, exportsare increased by 5% in the first simulation (SIM-I), in the second simulation (SIM-II) by 10% and in the third simulation (SIM-III) by 15%. The findings of the study reveal that increase in exports has favourable impact on the performance of macroeconomic variables of the economy i.e. GDP, public and private consumption, savings and investment. Domestic output level of most of the commodities has risen except mine, food manufacturing and other manufacturing. Incomes and expenditures of all the households have risen that results in rise of utility level of all the households. Moreover, all the households have also recorded an increase in the values of compensating variation which implies higher level of welfare for households. However, the value of compensating variation for non-agriculture households has risen more than that of agriculture households indicating pro-urban effect.  Equality among the households has improved as the inequality indices have registered declining trend. The study suggests that export promotion measures should be incorporated in poverty alleviation, income equality and economic growth strategies.

Abstract: Background: Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is extremely vascular, locally invasive and aggressive tumor. Among all neck and head tumors, NA prevalence is 0.05 percent to 0.5 percent but its most frequent tumor of the nasopharynx and virtually affects the male adolescents only. Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma shows a strong propensity to bleed in the surgical procedure. Currently, preoperative embolization is frequently utilized to reduce such intraoperative blood loss. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the role of preoperative embolization in surgery for nasopharyngeal angiofibroma among patients. Method: It was cross-sectional descriptive study in which 60 patients with nasopharyngeal angiofibroma admitted in ENT Department of Lahore General Hospital Lahore were included. Data was collected through proforma which was entered into computer software SPSS version 22.0. Results: Among 60 patients, 63.3% were 12-14 years old. All (100.0%) patients had nasal bleeding and nasal obstruction, 10.0% had proptosis and 18.3% patients had broadening of nose. Among patients, 65.0% had 100-200 ml peroperative bleeding and 76.7% had 4-5 days hospital stay. Conclusion: Study concluded that preoperative embolization reduces the peroperative bleeding and hospital stay among patients.
