Abstract: Background: Otitis media (OM) is an infection of the middle ear and mastoid cavity. In many studies, hearing loss is described as a consequence of otitis media (OM); the degree of hearing loss can be analyzed by biologically calibrated AA 222 diagnostic audiometer. But in Bangladesh, we have not enough research-based information regarding this issue. Aim of the Study: The aim of the study was to evaluate the correlation of the degrees of hearing loss between male and female patients with otitis media. Methods: This was a prospective observational study and was conducted in the Department of Otolaryngology & Head Neck Surgery, Bashundara Ad-Din Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from January 2022 to December 2022. A total of 64 patients with chronic otitis media (COM) suffered for the past three months or more attended the mentioned hospital were enrolled in this study as the study population. Among them 32(50%) were male and other 32(50%) were female patients. Ear drums of patients were inspected on both sides suction under microscope wherever necessary. The patient’s hearing levels in decibel were tested by a biologically calibrated AA 222 diagnostic audiometer. All data were collected, processed and analyzed by using MS Office and SPSS version 23.0 programs as per need. In comparison student’s T-tests were also performed. Results: In this study, in analyzing the hearing loss status of the patients regarding ear involvement we observed that, 6(18.8), 14(43.7) and 12(37.5) male participants on the other hand 10(31.2), 11(34.4) and 11(34.4) female patients right, left and both ears were found involved respectively. In comparing the ear involvement in hearing loss between the male-female groups, we did not find any significant correlation (P=0.427). In comparing the right dB grading, left dB grading, right ear comments and left ear comments of the patients in both groups we did not find any significant correlation; the P- value were 0.932, 0.983, 0.228 and 0.618 respectively. Conclusion: As per the findings of this study we can conclude that, there was no significant correlation of degrees of hearing loss between male and female patients with otitis media.

Abstract: A self-organized wireless communication short-lived network containing collection of mobile nodes is mobile ad hoc network (MANET). The mobile nodes communicate with each other by wireless radio links without the use of any pre-established fixed communication network infrastructure or centralized administration, such as base stations or access points, and with no human intervention. In addition, this network has potential applications in conference, disaster relief, and battlefield scenario, and have received important attention in current years. There is some security concern that increases fear of attacks on the mobile ad-hoc network. The mobility of the NODE in a MANET poses many security problems and vulnerable to different types of security attacks than conventional wired and wireless networks. The causes of these issues are due to their open medium, dynamic network topology, absence of central administration, distributed cooperation, constrained capability, and lack of clear line of defense. Without proper security, mobile hosts are easily captured, compromised, and attacked by malicious nodes. Malicious nodes behavior may deliberately disrupt the network so that the whole network will be suffering from packet losses. One of the major concerns in mobile ad-hoc networks is a traffic DoS attack in which the traffic is choked by the malicious node which denied network services for the user. Mobile ad-hoc networks must have a safe path for transmission and correspondence which is a serious testing and indispensable issue. So as to provide secure communication and transmission, the scientist worked explicitly on the security issues in versatile impromptu organizations and many secure directing conventions and security measures within the networks were proposed. The goal of the work is to study DoS attacks and how it can be detected in the network. Existing methodologies for finding a malicious node that causes traffic jamming is based on node’s retains value. The proposed approach finds a malicious node using reliability value determined by the broadcast reliability packet (RL Packet). In this approach at the initial level, every node has zero reliability value, specific time slice, and transmission starts with a packet termed as reliability packet, node who responded properly in specific time, increases its reliability value and those nodes who do not respond in a specific time decreases their reliability value and if it goes to less than zero then announced that it’s a malicious node. Reliability approach makes service availability and retransmission time.

Abstract: Recently, InGaN grown on semipolar and non-polar orientation has caused special attraction due to reduction in the built-in polarization field and increased confinement of high energy states compared to traditional polar c-plane orientation. However, any widespread-accepted report on output power and frequency response of the InGaN blue laser in non-c-plane orientation is readily unavailable. This work strives to address an exhaustive numerical investigation into the optoelectronic performance and frequency response of In0.17Ga0.83N/GaN quantum well laser in polar (0001), non-polar (101¯0) and semipolar (101¯2), (112¯2) and (101¯1) orientations by working out a 6 × 6 k.p Hamiltonian at the Γ-point using the tensor rotation technique. It is noticed that there is a considerable dependency of the piezoelectric field, energy band gap, peak optical gain, differential gain and output power on the modification in crystal orientation. Topmost optical gain of 4367 cm−1 is evaluated in the semipolar (112¯2)-oriented laser system at an emission wavelength of 448 nm when the injection carrier density is 3.7 × 1018 cm−3. Highest lasing power and lowest threshold current are reported to be 4.08 mW and 1.45 mA in semipolar (112¯2) crystal orientation. A state-space model is formed in order to achieve the frequency response which indicates the highest magnitude (dB) response in semipolar (112¯2) crystal orientation.

Abstract: Abstract Aromatic rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars are strong aromatic rice cultivars which can thrive well in rice fields prone to flood, drought and other soil constraints. The present investigation was undertaken to determine a suitable media compositions for callus induction and regeneration using immature embryo of six aromatic grown rice cultivars of Bangladesh, namely, Chinigura, Kalijira, Radhuni Pagal, Modhumala, Kataribog and Mohonbhog. For callus induction different concentrations and combinations of 2, 4-Dichlorophenoxyaceticacid (2, 4-D) along with NAA were evaluated. Maximum callus induction (97.22%) was observed in Kalijira when 2 mg/L of 2, 4-D and 0.5 mg/l NAA was used and less Modhumala (66.67%) and remaining cultivars showed moderate. For regeneration initially different concentrations and combinations of 6-BenzylAminoPurine (BAP) and Indole-3-Acetic Acid (IBA) were tested. Maximum regeneration frequency (91.67%) was observed Kalijira when the optimum concentrations and combinations of 0.5 mg/l of BAP + 0.1 of mg/l IBA were used. Presently optimized regeneration method holds promise for facilitating the deployment of agronomical important trait through genetic transformation for the improvement of this important food crops.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ijasbt.v2i2.10313Int J Appl Sci Biotechnol, Vol. 2(2): 160-167

Abstract: Human echinococcosis is a zoonotic infection caused by the tapeworm of the genus Echinococcus and transmitted by dog and other canine animals. It is a serious problem in tropical areas and is seen in many parts of Bangladesh. In children lungs are the most common site of infection, whereas in adults liver is infected most frequently. Primary hydatid cyst of the parotid gland is extremely rare, even in the endemic areas and very few cases are reported in parotid gland The disease is prevalent in most part of the world, though it is most extensive in the sheep and cattle raising areas. FNAC is contraindicated in suspected hydatid cyst cases due to risk of hypersensitivity reaction and additional precaution of intact cyst excision is mandatory in such cases to prevent recurrence and anaphylaxis reaction. A 30 year old female patient presented with gradually increasing painless large smooth cystic swelling of the right parotid region with trismus. CT scan showed a huge dumb bell shaped cystic lesion in the superficial and deep lobe of the parotid gland that is compatible with hydatid cyst. The parotid tumor was surgically removed by midline mandibulotomy approach. Pathological study of the cystic lesion confirmed hydatid disease of the parotid gland.TAJ 2017; 30(1): 73-77

Abstract: Bangladesh’s coastal regions are rich in saline water resources. The majority of these resources are still not being used to their full potential. In the southern Bangladeshi region of Patuakhali, research was conducted to investigate the effects of mulching and drip irrigation on tomato yield, quality, and blossom-end rot (BER) at different soil salinity thresholds. There were four distinct treatments applied: T1= drip irrigation with polythene mulch, T2 = drip irrigation with straw mulch, T3 = drip irrigation without mulch, and T4 = standard procedure. While soil salinity was much greater in treatment T3 (1.19–8.42 dS/m) fallowed by T4 (1.23–8.63 dS/m), T1 treatments had the lowest level of salinity and the highest moisture retention during every development stage of the crops, ranging from 1.28–4.29 dS/m. Treatment T3 exhibited the highest soil salinity levels (ranging from 1.19 to 8.42 dS/m), followed by T4 with a range of 1.23 to 8.63 dS/m. In contrast, T1 treatments consistently maintained the lowest salinity levels (ranging from 1.28 to 4.29 dS/m) and the highest moisture retention throughout all stages of crop development. In terms of yield, drip irrigation with no mulch treatment (T3) provided the lowest output (13.37 t/ha), whereas polyethylene mulching treatment (T1) produced the maximum yield (46.04 t/ha). According to the study, conserving moisture in tomato fields and reducing soil salinity may both be achieved with drip irrigation combined with polythene mulch. The research suggests that employing drip irrigation in conjunction with polythene mulch could effectively preserve moisture in tomato fields and concurrently decrease soil salinity.

Abstract: Abuse of antibiotics is more common in developing countries including Bangladesh. The aim of this study was to detect doxycycline residue after discriminate and indiscriminate administration in broiler poultry. Eighteen broiler chicks, DOC (Cobb-500) was collected & reared up to 31 days. On day 16, they were randomly divided into 3 groups, namely group–A (Control group), group-B (Discriminate group) and group-C (Indiscriminate group). Each group contains 6 birds. The discriminate and indiscriminate groups were treated with antibiotic, doxycycline. In group-B withdrawal period was followed by treatment for 7 days. On the other hand, withdrawal period was not maintained in group-C, i.e. the antibiotic treatment was continued until the day of sacrifice. TLC analysis revealed that intensity of doxycycline in discriminate antibiotic group for liver, kidney, thigh muscle and breast muscle samples were found 63.33%, 65.33%, 22.67% and 26.00% respectively. And in indiscriminate antibiotic group intensity of doxycycline for liver, kidney, spleen, thigh muscle and breast muscle samples were found 50.67%, 50.33%, 39.50% and 48.17% respectively. All the samples of control group were found 0% intensity. The different among intensity were statistically significant. Overall, the present study documented the widespread abuse of doxycycline and failure to implement the recommended withdrawal period will undeniably leads to deposition of residues in broiler tissues.
