Abstract:
In this paper the effect of mixing KOH on biochar components from pyrolyzed fine sugar bagasse (FSB) was studied. The fine sugar bagasse (FSB) was ground and mixed in batches with KOH at different weight ratios, such as 0, 20 and 40 %, to form 10-mm pellets, which were then thermal analyzed to identyfy the sutiable pyrolyze temperature. The FSB-derived biochars were characterized using DSC/TG, XRD, SEM/EDX to determine the effect of KOH content on the FSB-derived biochar. Experimen data shown that the obtain biochar posses different pore size vary from 0.5 ~ 1.0 µm. In case of using KOH, the silica from fine sugar bagasse can reacted with KOH, CO2 to form K2SiO3 and K2CO3 on the surface of biochar. Different amount of C can be capture by biochar by vary amount of KOH used. The treatment of biomass product can be used for rice hush, rice hush ash, and also sugarcane bagasse. These biochars can be used as a potential source for biochar-based power plant materials, or to remove toxic substances from wastewater. Based on the results of our study, we can recommend an activation of FSB-derived biochar for further use.
