    Abstract: Ameliorant, one of innovative technology, is actually able to accelerate the weathering of rice straw and grass. Other than that, it can also improve soil structure and increase soil pH. This study aims to analyze the added value of using innovative technology in reducing rice yield gaps in tidal land. It involved the Banjar Harum I and Banjar Sari Farmer Groups in Pinang Banjar Village, Sungai Lilin District, Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra during the dry season of 2020 in an area of 45 ha. The ameliorant used was 5 liter/ha of bio-decomposer and 1 t/ha lime (dolomite). The results showed that the application of bio-decomposer and dolomite produced 3,617 and 3,283 kg/ha Harvested Dry Grain (HDG) respectively of the farmer groups as compared to 1,700 kg/ha of local farmers using no ameliorant. The added value of the innovative technology use is IDR 9,126,000 and IDR 7,408,440/ha, with MBCR of 2.15 and 1.25, respectively. In the wet season of 2020, the use of bio-decomposers and dolomite can reduce yield gaps by 17.74 and 14.38%, respectively, with the potential productivity of Inpari 42.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 73-79.Rubber is one of the leading commodities of plantations in South Sumatra, especially in Banyuasin District. The opportunity for unused footpath land is a big potential in increasing farmers' income. In Betung Village, besides rubber, the community also raises livestock such as cows. This study aimed to provide information on the actual soil fertility status and see the suitability of the land in the study area when planted with corn plants, as well as the recommendations for the needed technology. The study used a survey method and the soil samples were taken using purposive random sampling method by determining the point diagonally and analyzed in the laboratory. The results of the study showed that the land suitability class at the location was according to the marginal with the limiting factors of water availability (rainfall) and nutrient retention (KB and pH). To obtain optimal corn production results, it is recommended to prepare a rainwater collection area and the addition of lime and organic matter.

    Abstract: Pemerintah telah mencanangkan untuk berswasembada jagung. Provinsi Sumatera Selatan dengan kekayaan sumberdaya alamnya berpeluang untuk mewujudkan sumbangsihnya, melalui ketersediaan lahan pada tanaman karet belum menghasilkan yang dapat ditanami jagung. Kajian ini bertujuan mengetahui adaptasi varietas dan usahatani tanaman jagung di sela tanaman karet yang belum menghasilkan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di lokasi perkebunan karet rakyat belum menghasilkan dengan umur 2 tahun di Kelurahan Betung Kecamatan Betung Kabupaten Banyuasin, Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. Kegiatan dimulai bulan April sampai September (MK) 2018. Pengkajian dilaksanakan dalam bentuk On Farm Research (OFR) di kebun karet yang belum menghasilkan umur 2 tahun yang berjarak tanam 5 x 3,5 m. Dimana jarak barisan tanaman karet 5 m dan jarak dalam barisan karet 3,5 m. Perlakuan 5 varietas jagung yaitu Bima-10, Bima-19, Pioner-21 dan Bisi-18 dan Sukmaraga. Luas petakan tiap perlakuan 4 gawang karet (20 m x 20 m). Jarak antar plot 1 gawangan karet (5 m) dan jarak ulangan 1 m. Setiap perlakuan diulang 4 kali. Rancangan yang digunakan rancangan acak kelompok (RAK). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa Varietas jagung Pioneer-21 mempunyai postur tinggi tanaman tertinggi yaitu 142,7 cm dan jumlah daun 9,9 helai sedangkan terrendah Bima 10 yaitu 137,9 cm dengan jumlah daun 9,4 helai. Produksi pipilan kering tertinggi tanaman jagung dihasilkan oleh BISI-18 sebesar 4,1 ton/ha tanaman karet, sedangkan produksi terendah 2,2 ton/ha tanaman karet dari jagung Bima-19. Varietas jagung BISI-18, Bima-10, Pioneer-21 dan Sukmaraga dapat beradaptasi pada tanaman karet umur di bawah 2 tahun setelah tanam dengan produksi berkisar 3,2-4,1 ton pipilan kering/ha tanaman karet dan usahatani dengan menggunakan keempat varietas ini layak dikembangkan dengan nilai R/C 2,46-3,03. Dengan pendapatan bersihnya Rp 9.520.000 - Rp 13.745.000/ha tanaman karet dapat menutupi biaya produksi yang dikeluarkan, sehingga mampu untuk memulai kembali usaha sejenis.

    Abstract: Many processing problems still occur, causing the low quality of raw rubber materials and farmers low-income. This can be seen from the use of coagulants, storage methods and the level of cleanliness. This study was aimed at analyzing the quality and added value of raw rubber materials based on the use of coagulant types. This study was conducted in October - November 2021. Fresh latex was obtained from the rubber plantation in Mulyaguna Village, OKI Regency. Completely randomized design was used with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The coagulants used were the recommended ones (liquid smoke, formic acid), and the commonly used by the farmers (sulfuric acid, aluminum sulfate, and TSP fertilizer). The results of the study showed that liquid smoke and formic acid were better than the coagulants commonly used by farmers, which could be seen from the ash content, initial plasticity, and plasticity retention index. The dry rubber contents (DRCs) using liquid smoke, formic acid, sulfuric acid, aluminum sulfate, and TSP fertilizer were 66.081; 62.978; 59.067; 56.202 and 60.796 respectively. Liquid smoke and formic acid provided the added value for raw rubber materials of 1,203/kg IDR and 792/kg IDR compared to sulfuric acid commonly used by farmers.

    Abstract: The use of microbes’ research as biological fertilizers in order to increase corn production had been performed, but the analysis of farming business related to this matter has not been conducted. This research aimed to determine the effect of one of the biological fertilizers, which was Agrimeth, on the seeds of various composite corns to the growth factors, the productivity of corn farming in dry land, and the amount of income that was obtained. This research was conducted in Betung Village, Betung Sub-District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. The corn varieties used were Bima 10, Bima 19, and Sukmaraga. The results showed that the seed treatment of corn seeds with Agrimeth showed an improvement trend of plant height, number of leaves, cob length and diameter, weight of 100 dry shelled grains, dry shelled production, and R / C in each variety. The application of Agrimeth biological fertilizers increased corn farming in dry land with R / C 2.79; 2.65; and 1.82 for each Bima 10, Sukmaraga and Bima 19 varieties.

    Abstract: Current technological developments make it easier for users to access the information needed in handling their farming. The study’s objectives are to determine the performance of the agricultural information system (AIS) service for rice commodities and the relationship of these service indicators to each other in increasing farmer capacity and rice production in Indonesia. The research was conducted in three rice center provinces, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, and Yogyakarta, from October to December 2021. The number of respondent farmers is 473 people who have obtained or applied for AIS for at least two years. Survey techniques using purposive sampling with a non-probability method with the criteria used are farmers or officials who have received information about AIS. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis with the help of SmartPLS v.3.2.9 software was performed to see multivariate relationships and continued by using importance performance analysis (IPA) to evaluate the performance of information system attributes. The results showed that the productive age, education level, and experience in rice farming were more than 10 years, enabling the application of AIS in Indonesia by strengthening the internet network and improving the attributes of security services, ease of application, accuracy, suitability, output interpretation, and accuracy, which will increase user loyalty.

    Abstract: Compared to when the rice planted once in a year, now the increase of rice cropping index (CI) does not have much impact on the increase of rice milling work capacity in tidal swamp agroecosystem. This study aims to identify the causes of rice milling work capacity decrease and provide suggestions to increase the working capacity of rice milling. The survey was conducted in 2019 in Muliasari Village, Tanjung Lago Sub District as an easily accessible location and Sumber Hidup Village in Muara Telang Sub District as a relatively difficult location to reach, both located in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatera Province. Descriptive data analysis quantitatively and qualitatively was done as comparisons. The results of this study indicate that: There are insufficient time and labor to carry out grain drying due to the immediate replanting of paddy fields to increase CI. Reactivating rice milling gives an impact on the use of leftovers such as husks and bran so that the added value can be used in the village. Policy suggestions through this activity are 1) guaranteed more favorable selling prices for rice, 2) rice processing diversification, and 3) reactivating post-sale activities through the use of food barns.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 102-108.Balanced fertilization is very important to do in marginal soils. The constraints in the use of marginal soils are physical, chemical and biological soil characteristics which do not support planting growth. Determination of fertilizer dosage for corn commodity in one region can be different depending on the available nutrient content that testing needs to be carried out. This study aimed to mentor farmers in taking appropriate soil samples and determined fertilizer doses according to location specifications and application of fertilizers on target using the Dry Soil Test Kit (Perangkat Uji Tanah Kering). This activity was carried out in Fajar Jaya Village, Ogan Komering Ulu District in February 2019.  The results of the soil analysis of the location used as a demonstration plot derived from the results of low soil fertility analysis with soil acidity at pH 4-5 with acid crystals, moderate P, K and C-organic nutrients were relatively low. The recommended fertilizer is as follows: urea 325 kg/ha given 3 times, one-third the dose, carried out 1 MST, 4 MST and 6 MST; TSP 200 kg/ha; KCl 125 kg/ha; 5,000 kg/ha of compost and 1,000 kg/ha of lime stocked during tillage 1 week before planting. Fertilization application method applied by farmers is not in accordance with the recommendations; consequently, it is necessary to fertilize to increase nutrient content.

    Abstract: Penggunaan benih padi sawah irigasi di Indonesia didominasi oleh varietas padi unggul yang sudah lama dilepas. Fenomena ini juga terjadi di sentra-sentra produksi padi di Kabupaten Bengkulu Selatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat adopsi benih padi unggul baru pada sentra produksi Kabupaten Bengkulu Selatan. Pengumpulan data melalui survei dilakukan pada bulan Oktober hingga Desember 2022 dengan melibatkan 87 petani dari 81 kelompok tani di sentra produksi padi sawah irigasi di tiga kecamatan Bengkulu Selatan, yakni Seginim, Air Nipis, dan Kedurang. Wawancara juga dilakukan dengan penyuluh pertanian untuk konfirmasi data survei. Data meliputi karakteristik petani, penggunaan varietas padi, sumber benih, dan masalah adopsi varietas unggul baru. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa empat varietas padi unggul lama yaitu Cigeulis, Ciherang, Mekongga, dan IR64 masih banyak digunakan petani masing-masing sebesar 31,61%, 31,03%, 27,01%, dan 6,32%. Tingkat adopsi varietas unggul baru oleh petani hanya mencapai 4,00%. Rendahnya adopsi tersebut karena sebagian besar petani masih menggunakan benih hasil panen sebelumnya yang berasal dari lahan sendiri, tetangga, atau keluarga sebesar 52,87%. Sementara itu, hanya 25,29% petani yang menggunakan benih dari bantuan pemerintah, dan sisanya diperoleh dengan membeli benih dari kios pertanian (17,24%) atau penangkar benih (4,60%). Oleh karena itu, pemerintah perlu memperkenalkan varietas unggul baru padi melalui program dukungan benih bagi petani untuk mendorong adopsi varietas unggul baru.
