    Abstract: We report molecular genetic linkage maps for an interspecific hybrid population of Populus, a model system in forest-tree biology. The hybrids were produced by crosses between P. deltoides (mother) and P. euramericana (father), which is a natural hybrid of P. deltoides (grandmother) and P. nigra (grandfather). Linkage analysis from 93 of the 450 backcross progeny grown in the field for 15 years was performed using random amplified polymorphic DNAs (RAPDs), amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLPs), and inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSRs). Of a total of 839 polymorphic markers identified, 560 (67%) were testcross markers heterozygous in one parent but null in the other (segregating 1:1), 206 (25%) were intercross dominant markers heterozygous in both parents (segregating 3:1), and the remaining 73 (9%) were 19 non-parental RAPD markers (segregating 1:1) and 54 codominant AFLP markers (segregating 1:1:1:1). A mixed set of the testcross markers, non-parental RAPD markers, and codominant AFLP markers was used to construct two linkage maps, one based on the P. deltoides (D) genome and the other based on P. euramericana (E). The two maps showed nearly complete coverage of the genome, spanning 3801 and 3452 cM, respectively. The availability of non-parental RAPD and codominant AFLP markers as orthologous genes allowed for a direct comparison of the rate of meiotic recombination between the two different parental species. Generally, the rate of meiotic recombination was greater for males than females in our interspecific poplar hybrids. The confounded effect of sexes and species causes the mean recombination distance of orthologous markers to be 11% longer for the father (P. euramericana; interspecific hybrid) than for the mother (P. deltoides; pure species). The linkage maps constructed and the interspecific poplar hybrid population in which clonal replicates for individual genotypes are available present a comprehensive foundation for future genomic studies and quantitative trait locus (QTL) identification.Key words: AFLP, Genetic map, poplar, RAPD, SSR.

    Abstract: In this study, solid formaldehyde, benzoguanamine and butanol were used to synthesize butylated benzo-amino resin by one-step-two-stage method. Design/methodology/approach This research first examined the influence of solid formaldehyde content on the hydroxymethylation phase. Subsequently, the effects of butanol content, etherification time and hydrochloric acid content on the formation of benzo-amino resin during the etherification stage were studied in detail. In addition, the reaction process was further analyzed through interval sampling withdrawing during the hydroxymethylation and etherification stages. Finally, the synthesized benzo-amino resins were used in the production of high solid content polyester and acrylic coatings and the properties of that were also evaluated. Findings Based on the experimental findings, the authors have successfully determined the optimal process conditions for the one-step-two-stage method in this study. The hydroxymethylation stage demonstrated the most favorable outcomes at a reaction temperature of 60°C and a pH of 8.5. Similarly, for the etherification stage, the optimal conditions were achieved at a temperature of 45°C and a pH of 4.5. Furthermore, the investigation revealed that a ratio of benzoguanamine to solid formaldehyde to n-butanol, specifically at 1:5.2:15, produced the best results. The performance of the resulting etherified benzo-amino resin was thoroughly evaluated in high solid content coatings, and it exhibited promising characteristics. Notably, there was a significant enhancement in the water resistance, solvent resistance and glossiness of canned iron printing varnish coatings. Originality/value Amino resin, a versatile chemical compound widely used in various industries, presents challenges in terms of sustainability and operational efficiency when synthesized using conventional methods, primarily relying on a 37% formaldehyde solution. To address these challenges, the authors propose a novel approach in this study that combines the advantages of the solid formaldehyde with a two-stage catalytic one-step synthesis process. The primary objective of this research is to minimize the environmental impact associated with amino resin synthesis, optimize resource utilization and enhance the economic feasibility for its industrial implementation. By adopting this alternative approach, the authors aim to contribute toward a more sustainable and efficient production of amino resin.

    Abstract: Zero-dimensional (0D) tin halide perovskites, characterized by their broadband and adjustable emissions, high photoluminescence quantum yield, and absence of self-absorption, are crucial for the fabrication of high-efficiency optoelectronic devices, such as LEDs, solar cells, and sensors. Despite these attributes, boosting their emission efficiency and stability poses a significant challenge. In this work, Cr3+-doped Cs4SnBr6−xFx perovskites were synthesized using a water-assisted wet ball-milling method. The effect of CrF3 addition on photoluminescence properties of Cs4SnBr6−xFx Perovskites was investigated. We found that Cr3+-doped Cs4SnBr6−xFx Perovskites exhibit a broad emission band, a substantial Stokes shift, and an efficient green light emission centered at about 525 nm at ambient temperature. The derived photoluminescence quantum yield amounted to as high as 56.3%. In addition, these Cr3+-doped Cs4SnBr6−xFx perovskites outperform their undoped counterparts in terms of thermal stability. Through a comprehensive analysis of photoluminescence measurements, our findings suggested that the elevated photoluminescence quantum yield can be attributed to the enhanced exciton binding energy of self-trapped excitons (STEs) and the suitable electron−phonon coupling resulting from the substantial distortion of [SnBr6]4− octahedra instigated by the addition of CrF3.

    Abstract: Curcumin is a natural polyphenol compound with anti-diabetic, anti-oxidative, and anti-inflammatory effects. Although many studies have reported the protective effect of curcumin in diabetes mellitus or diabetic nephropathy, there is a lack of research on curcumin in diabetic retinopathy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of curcumin on the diabetic retinal injury. Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats (60, n = 12 each) were respectively given curcumin orally (200 mg/kg/day), insulin subcutaneously (4–6 IU/day), and combined therapy with curcumin and insulin for 4 weeks. Retinal histopathological changes, oxidative stress markers, and transcriptome profiles from each group were observed. Curcumin, insulin, or combination therapy significantly reduced blood glucose, alleviated oxidative stress, and improved pathological damage in diabetic rats. Curcumin not only significantly reduced retinal edema but also had a better anti-photoreceptor apoptosis effect than insulin. In the early stage of diabetes, the enhancement of oxidative stress in the retina induced the adaptive activation of the nuclear factor E2-associated factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway. Treatment of curcumin alleviated the compensatory activation of the Nrf2 pathway induced by oxidative stress, by virtue of its antioxidant ability to transfer hydrogen atoms to free radicals. When curcumin combined with insulin, the effect of maintaining Nrf2 pathway homeostasis in diabetic rats was better than that of insulin alone. Transcriptomic analyses revealed that curcumin either alone, or combined with insulin, inhibited the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway and the extracellular matrix (ECM)-receptor interaction in the diabetic retina. Thus, at the early stage of diabetes, curcumin can be used to alleviate diabetic retinal injury through its anti-oxidative effect. If taking curcumin as a potential complementary therapeutic option in combination with antihyperglycemic agents, which would lead to more effective therapeutic outcomes against diabetic complications.

    Abstract: We report a rapid synthesis method for producing CsSnCl3:Mn2+ perovskites, derived from SnF2, and investigate the effects of rapid thermal treatment on their photoluminescence properties. Our study shows that the initial CsSnCl3:Mn2+ samples exhibit a double luminescence peak structure with PL peaks at approximately 450 nm and 640 nm, respectively. These peaks originate from defect-related luminescent centers and the 4T1→6A1 transition of Mn2+. However, as a result of rapid thermal treatment, the blue emission is significantly reduced and the red emission intensity is increased nearly twofold compared to the pristine sample. Furthermore, the Mn2+-doped samples demonstrate excellent thermal stability after the rapid thermal treatment. We suggest that this improvement in photoluminescence results from enhanced excited-state density, energy transfer between defects and the Mn2+ state, as well as the reduction of nonradiative recombination centers. Our findings provide valuable insights into the luminescence dynamics of Mn2+-doped CsSnCl3 and open up new possibilities for controlling and optimizing the emission of rare-earth-doped CsSnCl3.

    Abstract: Proteolysis targeting chimeras (PROTACs) technology is an emerging approach to degrade disease‐associated proteins. Here, we report carbon‐dot (CD)‐based PROTACs (CDTACs) that degrade membrane proteins via the ubiquitin‐proteasome system. CDTACs can bind to programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD‐L1), recruit cereblon (CRBN) to induce PD‐L1 ubiquitination, and degrade them with proteasomes. Fasting‐mimicking diet (FMD) is also used to enhance the cellular uptake and proteasome activity. More than 99 % or 90 % of PD‐L1 in CT26 or B16‐F10 tumor cells can be degraded by CDTACs, respectively. Furthermore, CDTACs can activate the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway to trigger immune responses. Thus, CDTACs with FMD treatment effectively inhibit the growth of CT26 and B16‐F10 tumors. Compared with small‐molecule‐based PROTACs, CDTACs offer several advantages, such as efficient membrane protein degradation, targeted tumor accumulation, immune system activation, and in vivo detection.
