Abstract: The Mn2+ co-doped Sr 3 SiO 5 :Eu 2+ phosphorsynthesized by conventional solid-state reaction had been investigated. Two controlling factors, firing temperature and Eu 2+ concentrations, regarding to the synthesis and photoluminescence properties of Sr 3 SiO 5 :Eu 2+ samples have been elucidated through photoluminescence (PL) analyses. The best firing temperature and Eu 2+ concentrations of Sr 3-x SiO 5 :Eu 2+ x phosphor was shown to be 1600oC and 0.03mol, respectively. In addition, the Mn 2+ co-doped into Sr 3 SiO 5 :Eu 2+ , i. e. Sr 3-x-y SiO 5 :Mn x 2+ ,Eu y 2+ , were also studied by PL analysis. It showed that the luminescent efficiency of Mn2+ co-doped into Sr3SiO5:Eu could be enhanced by 7%, as compared to the Sr 3 SiO 5 :Eu 2+ phosphor. This study provides the fundamentals of synthesis and photoluminescence properties of (Sr 3-x-y SiO 5 ):Eu x 2+ ,Mn 2+ y phosphor for future research and application.

Abstract: Plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) is a technique of material processing and surface modification, using controllable negative high voltage pulsed bias to attract the ion generated from the plasma. The method using PIII treatment quickly improves the performance of solar cell made of crystalline silicon, including monocrystalline, multicrystalline and polycrystalline silicon. Hydrogen ions are attracted and quickly implanted into solar cell under a predetermined negative pulse voltage, thus, the passivation of the crystal defects of the solar cell can be realized in a short period. Meanwhile, the properties of the antireflection layer can not be damaged as the proper operating conditions are used. Consequently, the series resistance can be significantly reduced and the filling factor increases as a result. Both the short-circuit and the open-circuit voltage can be increased. The efficiency can be enhanced.

Abstract: Hafnium silicates (HfO 2 :SiO 2 , HSO) have recently attracted much interest in the fields of fundamental science and technology because they have high dielectric constant and low leakage current. The structure and properties of HSO gate oxides were studied using a combinatorial continuous-compositional-spread method. HSO material libraries were synthesized on a 4-inch wafer at room temperature and at 200°C using a custom-built radio-frequency (RF) sputtering system. The electrical properties of HSO material libraries were measured using metal-oxide-semiconductor structure. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was utilized to characterize the structure and compositions of HSO material libraries. The effects of sputtering conditions on the properties of the HSO gate oxides were investigated. The dielectrics constants (ε r ) of HSO material libraries treated with rapid thermal annealing (600°C/1min/N 2 ) were in the range 5∼23, as determined by C-V measurement, and the dielectric constant was observed to increase with HfO 2 content. The I-V relations of the HSO material libraries indicate that the leakage current decreases as the amount of Si in the HSO films increases. The structural characteristics of HSO films with RTA treatment (1000°C/10sec/N 2 ) varied from the amorphous to the crystalline state (tetragonal and monoclinic phase), according to the composition of material libraries. The correlation among the electrical properties, the composition and the crystal structure of the HSO films is discussed.

Abstract: The photoluminescence (PL) properties of Mn-doped zinc silicates were studied by combinatorial synthesis and characterization technique associated with various process parameters. The material libraries were prepared with composition spreading in Zn and Mn concentration. The PL emission was green or orange, and depended strongly on the stoichiometry of the zinc silicates and the annealing temperature. The orange emission was observed in Mn-doped zinc silicates annealed at 800°C, which attributed to the increase of crystal field in a highly non-stoichiometric α-Zn 2 SiO phase ((Zn+Mn)/Si 〈 1).

Abstract: Low-temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCCs) have been attracting attention due to rapid advances in wireless telecommunications. Low-dielectric-constant (Dk) and low-dissipation-factor (Df) LTCCs enable a low propagation delay and high signal quality. However, the wide ranges of glass, ceramic filler compositions, and processing features in fabricating LTCC make property modulating difficult via experimental trial-and-error approaches. In this study, we explored Dk and Df values of LTCCs using a machine learning method with a Gaussian kernel ridge regression model. A principal component analysis and k-means methods were initially performed to visually analyze data clustering and to reduce the dimension complexity. Model assessments, by using a five-fold cross-validation, residual analysis, and randomized test, suggest that the proposed Dk and Df models had some predictive ability, that the model selection was appropriate, and that the fittings were not just numerical due to a rather small data set. A cross-plot analysis and property contour plot were performed for the purpose of exploring potential LTCCs for real applications with Dk and Df values less than 10 and 2 × 10−3, respectively, at an operating frequency of 1 GHz. The proposed machine learning models can potentially be utilized to accelerate the design of technology-related LTCC systems.

Abstract: (1) Background: Salivary gland tumors are rare in the head and neck. To determine the need and extent of surgical intervention, fine needle aspiration (FNA) is a widely accepted tool to approach salivary gland lesions. However, the FNA cytology varies between entities, while the lack of uniform terminology makes diagnosis more challenging. Since establishing the Milan system for reporting salivary gland cytopathology (MSRSGC) has become an increasingly accepted reporting standard, further examination and detailed recommendations were needed. (2) Methods: Between April 2013 and October 2021, 375 cases with FNA and salivary gland resection were retrospectively collected. All FNA specimens were reclassified according to the criteria of MSRSGC. After surgical excision, the FNA data were compared with the histological diagnosis to estimate the risk of malignancy (ROM), the risk of neoplasm (RON), and the diagnostic accuracy for each diagnostic category. (3) Results: Our cohort’s distribution of ROM and RON was similar to the MSRSGC’s recommendation. Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (CXPA) has the highest rate (66.7%) of misdiagnosed as a nonneoplastic lesion or benign salivary gland tumor. Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and Warthin’s tumor were the most common benign salivary gland tumors, while the cytology diagnosis of Warthin’s tumor seems more challenging than PAs. (4) Conclusions: Despite the convenience and effectiveness of MSRSGC, we suggest close follow-up, re-biopsy, or surgical removal for salivary lesions even in Milan IVA-Benign for possibly missing FNA of malignancy, mixed lesions, or prevention of malignant transformation.

Abstract: Common single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are predicted to collectively explain 40–50% of phenotypic variation in human height, but identifying the specific variants and associated regions requires huge sample sizes 1 . Here, using data from a genome-wide association study of 5.4 million individuals of diverse ancestries, we show that 12,111 independent SNPs that are significantly associated with height account for nearly all of the common SNP-based heritability. These SNPs are clustered within 7,209 non-overlapping genomic segments with a mean size of around 90 kb, covering about 21% of the genome. The density of independent associations varies across the genome and the regions of increased density are enriched for biologically relevant genes. In out-of-sample estimation and prediction, the 12,111 SNPs (or all SNPs in the HapMap 3 panel 2 ) account for 40% (45%) of phenotypic variance in populations of European ancestry but only around 10–20% (14–24%) in populations of other ancestries. Effect sizes, associated regions and gene prioritization are similar across ancestries, indicating that reduced prediction accuracy is likely to be explained by linkage disequilibrium and differences in allele frequency within associated regions. Finally, we show that the relevant biological pathways are detectable with smaller sample sizes than are needed to implicate causal genes and variants. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive map of specific genomic regions that contain the vast majority of common height-associated variants. Although this map is saturated for populations of European ancestry, further research is needed to achieve equivalent saturation in other ancestries.
