Abstract: Energy consumption has become one of the most challenging problems in future wireless communication networks. One of the promising methods in fifth generation (5G) cellular networks to meet the ever-increasing demand for high data traffic is wireless heterogeneous networks (HetNets). Adding more base stations may improve network coverage, but leads to the consumption of a significant amount of power. The scheme of two-tier networks contains small cell base stations (SCBs) that cooperate with macro cell base stations (MCBs) to provide wider coverage. Some small cell base station SCBs are experiencing light traffic loads due to the movement of user equipment (UEs), but these SCBs still consume a considerable amount of energy. Therefore, to reduce SCBs’ power consumption and maximize the overall energy efficiency (EE) of a two-tier network, some SCBs need to be switched off. In this paper, we extend the operation modes for BSs and present a novel mechanism to select an appropriate operation mode for each SCB that is based on bio-inspired behavior. We employ a bias function to manage the power consumption of each operation mode. Each SCB has four power mode selections: On, Standby, Sleep, and Off. We formulate the EE maximization problem under a set of constraints and present a Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm-based Variant Power Mode Selection (GOA-VPMS) to solve it. The proposed algorithm scheme outperforms previous work and provides a higher EE, according to the simulation results.

Abstract: Downlink schedulers play a vital part in the current and next-generation wireless networks. The next generation downlink scheduler should satisfy the demand for different requirements, such as dealing with ultra-dense networks and the need to run real-time (RT) and non-real-time (nRT) applications, with a high quality of service (QoS). Many researchers have developed various schedulers for these, but none have introduced one scheduler to target them all. This paper introduces a novel channel/QoS aware downlink scheduler algorithm, called Advanced Fair Throughput Optimized Scheduler (AFTOS), for ultra-dense networks. AFTOS is a multi-QoS scheduler that aims to maximize system spectrum efficiency and user throughput with enhanced fairness, delay, and packet loss ratio (PLR). It is capable of handling RT and nRT traffic. We developed two new policies, called Adjusted Largest Weighted Delay First (ALWDF) and Fair Throughput Optimized Scheduler (FTOS), for RT and nRT traffic. Then, we joint them to introduce our novel downlink scheduler Advanced Fair Throughput Optimized Scheduler (AFTOS). For evaluating the suggested algorithm, we undertook experiments to decide the ideal parameter value for the proposed approaches and compared the proposed solution to current best practices. The findings prove that the AFTOS algorithm can achieve its objectives, outperforming the alternative techniques.

Abstract: Objective: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common cancer in men worldwide and few studies have been reported investigating the effects of homeopathic therapy on PCa. Tarantula cubensis alcoholic extract (TCAE), is used in veterinary medicine as homeopathic medicine and there are various studies about the therapeutic efficacy of TCAE in treating different diseases. However, studies about the efficacy of TCAE in cancer treatment are limited. It aimed to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of TCAE, which is used as homeopathic medicine in PCa. Methods: DU-145 and LNCaP cells were used as PCa cell lines, and HUVEC cells were used as control cell lines. The effect of TCAE (25, 50, 100 and 250 µM) on cell viability was evaluated by Water Soluble Tetrazolium Salts-1 (WST-1) analysis, and its apoptotic effects were assessed by Annexin V analysis and acridine orange staining. Results: TCAE decreased the viability rates in DU-145 and LNCaP cells in a time-dependent manner (p 〈 0.01). The lowest viability rates for DU-145 and LNCaP cells were determined as 62.76±4.21% and 55.68±1.84% at 250 and 25 μM doses, respectively, for 48 h (p 〈 0.01). Moreover, TCAE did not induce any cytotoxic effect on HUVEC cells (p 〈 0.01). Apoptotic cell rates were found as 30.45±0.78% and 45.02±1.32% in DU-145 and LNCaP cells at 250 and 25 μM TCAE, respectively (p 〈 0.01). Furthermore, impaired cell/cytoplasm ratio, chromatin condensation, membrane blebbing, and vacuolar damage were observed in DU-145 and LNCaP cells. Conclusion: TCAE exerts cytotoxic and apoptotic effects on PCa cells. Additionally, due to androgen receptor status, LNCaP cells were more sensitive than DU-145 cells. However, further molecular studies are needed to determine the potential of TCAE as a new chemotherapeutic agent in PCa.

Abstract: 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Introduction: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a new auditory training (AT) program on the speech recognition in the noise and on the auditory event-related potentials in elderly hearing aid users. 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Methods: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 Thirty-three elderly individuals using hearing aids aged from 60 to 80 years participated. A new AT program was developed for the study. AT program lasts for 8 weeks and includes sound discrimination exercises and cognitive exercises. Seventeen individuals (mean age 72.17 ± 6.94) received AT and 16 individuals (mean age 71.75 ± 6.81) did not receive AT. The mismatch negativity (MMN) test and matrix test were used to evaluate the effectiveness of AT. Tests were conducted for the study group before and after the AT. The tests were carried out for the control group at the same times with the study group and the results were compared. 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Results: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 In comparison with the first evaluation, the last evaluation of the study group demonstrated a significant difference regarding the decrease of mean latency in the MMN wave ( 〈 i 〉 p 〈 /i 〉 = 0.038), and regarding the improving score of matrix test ( 〈 i 〉 p 〈 /i 〉 = 0.004), there was no difference in the control group. 〈 b 〉 〈 i 〉 Conclusion: 〈 /i 〉 〈 /b 〉 The AT program prepared for the study was effective in improving speech recognition in noise in the elderly, and the efficiency of AT could be demonstrated with MMN and matrix test.

Abstract: The belief in the importance of education on economic and social development has resulted in the education expenses being largely covered by the public budget. Countries' approaches to financing education services may vary depending on the tendency to see the education as mixed, complete or private goods and the policies they follow in this direction. In order to fully meet the demands for education, it is of great importance that the available financial resources are spent on the basis of effectively and accountability, as well as the ratio of the financial resources allocated for education. The failure in education is largely attributed to the lack of funding. However, this failure is largely ignored because of the poor use of existing financing, as well as the inadequacy of funding resources.  It is an important issue to observe the measures of equality and equity in the distribution of resources related to education and of efficiency and accountability in their spending. Demand-side financing approach in education includes the issues of the freedom of school choice as part of initiating inter-school competitions, giving the 'Education Cheque' or the 'Education Voucher'  to student parents and their submitting this cheque or voucher to the board of the school where school stakeholders are also included and where they send their children, within the framework of a protocol, instead of spending the determined money considering the free market conditions or transferring it directly via the education center or district units to the school account for each student studying at each school level. The purpose of this study is to create awareness among education stakeholders and researchers such as decision-makers, managers and teachers regarding the education in by examining the approaches of 'Demand-Side Financing' which is based on parents/ customers' initiative  in the use of financial resources allocated from the general budget for education. Key words: Demand-side financing, education financing, financing
