Abstract:
Metallothionien contributes to collateral flow recovery and angiogenesis, and it does so by maintaining proper function of endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, and macrophages. Smooth muscle cells from metallothionein knockout mice have an impaired ability to migrate, invade, proliferate, and express VEGF and MMP-9.
