Abstract: Abstract Introduction : Every disastrous event, by definition, results in infrastructure damage and a large number of casualties that exceeds the community’s ability to respond effectively and quickly to the human and material losses. The ability to respond quickly, adequately, and effectively in emergency situations, by changing the activities performed and to restore the state of functionality in a short time before disaster is defined as hospital disaster resilience. In order for disaster resilience to be granted for effective and adequate disaster response, the medical staff has to be aware of and trained on medical specialists’ activities described in the disaster medical support plan. Aim : To analyse the medical professionals’ awareness of hospital disaster medical support plan and its impact on the disaster resilience. Materials and methods : A 55-question anonymous survey was conducted among 295 hospital professionals in Plovdiv Region between July and September 2019. The respondents were questioned about their awareness of the medical activities described in the hospital disaster medical support plan. Descriptive statistics was used to calculate the relative percentages, along with the Pearson chi-square test and Spearman’s correlation. All descriptive and analytical analyses were performed using SPSS v. 21 for Windows XP. Results : Thoroughly performed analyses of the respondents’ answers presents that the medical specialists in Plovdiv Region are not well informed about the hospital disaster medical support plan’s content. Conclusions : Poor knowledge about the required changes into every medical specialist’s activities in case of a disaster has a negative impact on the hospital resilience.

Abstract: Background/Aim. In the event of a disaster, it is necessary for medical personnel to demonstrate the operational component of disaster resilience, which requires certain knowledge and skills regarding disaster medical response algorithms. The aim of this study was to analyze the preparedness of hospital?s healthcare staff for maintaining hospital disaster resilience. Methods. An anonymous survey was conducted from July to September 2019 among 295 medical staff employed in hospitals in the territory of the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Pearson?s Chisquare test, Student?s t-test, and graphical analysis were used in the statistical analysis. Results. Most of the medical staff, i.e., 85.8%, believed that disaster drills are not held regularly in hospitals, 30.8% thought that the training period was shorter than two years, and the majority, i.e., 86.1%, did not participate in exercises. Conclusion. Due to the irregular implementation of exercises and the small number of participants in them, the level of preparedness for responding to disasters is not maintained at a high level in hospitals in the Plovdiv region. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a specific training program and exercise once a year, which should have a beneficial effect on increasing the preparedness of the medical staff for disasters and improving the operational resilience of the hospital.

Abstract: Background : Burnout is described as an emotional, mental and physical exhaustion observed in healthy people and directly related to their professional context. The objective is to study the level of burnout among community pharmacists and to identify the workplace factors affecting it. Materials and methods : Using a questionnaire, specifically designed by the authors of the study, an anonymous survey was conducted in the region of Varna, as the largest region of Northeastern Bulgaria. The questionnaire contains questions about the demographic characteristics; a standardised burnout measure tool (MBI-HSS-MP), and questions regarding the specifics of the work environment. According to MBI-HSS-MP, burnout is associated with high levels of emotional exhaustion (EE) and depersonalisation (DP) and low level of personal accomplishment (PA). Results : The participants in the pilot study were 127 masters of pharmacy. Regarding individual factors, a statistically significant relationship was found between age and the scales emotional exhaustion EE (p = 0.012), depersonalisation DP (0.028) and personal accomplishment PA (p = 0.028). Most susceptible to ЕЕ (p = 0.014) and DP (p = 0.008) were the age group 25–45 years while most satisfied with their PA were in the age group 46–55 years (p = 0.016). From the organisational factors, the large number of patients had the greatest impact on burnout (DP р = 0.000 /ЕЕ р = 0.006). The other key factors for burnout were an insufficient number of pharmacy staff, a heavy administrative burden and a wide range of medicinal products. Conclusion : It is necessary to develop training courses for young professionals to introduce them gradually into the work process and build up skills for effectively coping with stress. Proposals need to be made for reducing the administrative burden of pharmacists and maintaining staffing levels that are adequate to the patient flow and expanding the capabilities of The Specialised Electronic System for Tracing and Analysis System of Medicinal Products (SETASMP).

Abstract: Introduction: Work in the field of healthcare is accompanied by considerable emotional tension. Pharmacists are at risk of professional burnout, but so far, there is very little scientific research in this professional group in Bulgaria. Objective: To study the presence of Burnout Syndrome among Bulgarian pharmacists and perform an analysis according to the demographic characteristics of respondents. Material and Methods: A pilot study was conducted for the presence of Burnout Syndrome among 142 pharmacists in Varna, Bulgaria, working in different areas of the pharmaceutical sector: pharmacies for public services, hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, higher education institution. The information was collected using an anonymous questionnaire that included the specialized Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) tool to examine professional burnout according to three subscales: emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and personal accomplishment. Results: Higher levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation were found in male respondents in comparison to women, while the values between the two genders were almost similar according to the professional achievement subscale. The most vulnerable group was the male group at the age of 31-40. Pharmacists over the age of 50 had lower levels of burnout as they had developed good habits to deal with stress. Conclusion: Gaining professional experience in pharmacists is associated with an increase in the levels of professional burnout. High levels of depersonalisation are a prerequisite for worse quality of pharmaceutical care.

Abstract: For the first time, fibrous polylactide (PLA) materials containing plant extract of Portulaca oleracea obtained using supercritical carbon dioxide were successfully prepared by electrospinning. The effect of the extract concentration on the morphology and properties of the obtained materials was studied. P. oleracea extracts of 0–7.5 wt% in 10 wt% PLA solutions were electrospun. The optimal process conditions for the preparation of defect‐free fibers were found. The newly obtained fibrous materials were fully characterized using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X‐ray diffraction analysis and water contact angle measurements. It was found that the incorporation of the crude extract had a significant effect on the average fiber diameter, thermal characteristics and structure of the obtained materials. Moreover, it was found that the electrospun PLA/ P. oleracea materials showed high antioxidant activity. The cytocompatibility of fibrous mats was assessed and it was found that the materials loaded with P. oleracea enhanced the cell viability of mouse BALB/c‐3T3 fibroblasts. Thus the obtained novel materials could be a potential candidate for tissue regeneration and wound healing applications. © 2021 Society of Industrial Chemistry.

Abstract: This paper proposes a practical hybrid solution for combining and switching between three popular Ring-LWE-based FHE schemes: TFHE, B/FV and HEAAN. This is achieved by first mapping the different plaintext spaces to a common algebraic structure and then by applying efficient switching algorithms. This approach has many practical applications. First and foremost, it becomes an integral tool for the recent standardization initiatives of homomorphic schemes and common APIs. Then, it can be used in many real-life scenarios where operations of different nature and not achievable within a single FHE scheme have to be performed and where it is important to efficiently switch from one scheme to another. Finally, as a byproduct of our analysis we introduce the notion of a FHE module structure, that generalizes the notion of the external product, but can certainly be of independent interest in future research in FHE.
