Abstract: This experiment was carried out to identify appropriate potato genotypes for red ant management and increase the tuber yield of potato during 2020 and 2021 years. Eight different promising potato genotypes [1. PRP-056267.9 2. PRP-85861.11 3. CIP-394311.112 4. PRP-136368.1 5. PRP-22627.1 6. PRP-296668.1 7. Janakdev (standard check) and 8. Ilam local (Bite)] received from National Potato Research Program (NPRP), Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Nepal were included in the study. Experiment was conducted in previously red ant infected potato field in Completely Randomized Block Design with three replications. The experimental plot size was 5.4 m2 (3m x 1.8m) where planting tubers was done at 60 cm row to row and 25 cm plants to plant spacing. Fertilizers of NPK were applied at the rate of 100:100:60 kg /ha and 20 t/ha compost. Well sprouted tubers with weight 30-40 g were planted during the second week of February.  Harvesting was done during the last week of July. Data on yield attributing traits, late blight disease, and number of red ant damaged tubers, red ant infested yield and healthy tuber yield were recorded. The standard check potato variety Janakdev (1.00 red ant score, 2.32 – 2.36 % red ant incidence percentage and 0.66 – 0. 71 t/ha red ant infected tuber yield ), PRP-056267.9 (1.00 red ant score, 4.51 – 5.10 % red ant incidence percentage and 0.56 – 0. 67 t/ha red ant infected tuber yield ) and PRP-85861.11 (1.00 red ant score, 4.55 – 5.47 % red ant incidence percentage and 0.76 – 0. 86 t/ha red ant infected tuber yield ) were found tolerant to red ant infestation and produced the highest tuber yield (27.74 t/ha – 28.62 t /ha by Janakdev variety followed by 21.79 - 22.26 t/ha by PRP-056267.9  and 21.09 - 21.05 t/ha by PRP-85861.11 potato genotypes). Therefore, planting of Janakdev variety as well as PRP-056267.9 and PRP-85861.11 potato genotypes is appropriate for higher potato tuber yield and lower down red ant incidence at Jaubari area.

Abstract: The major earthquake in April 25, 2015 of Mw 7.8 and aftershock of intensity Mw 7.3 on May 12, 2015 has caused not only  a substantial death toll and huge economic losses, but also heavy damage to many buildings. This paper outlines the common  observed  damage  patterns  of  different  types  of  buildings  in  Kathmandu  valley  induced  by  the  earthquake  and  their constructional deficiencies..We visited Department Of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC) of Nepal Government,  and  Nepal  Society  for  Earthquake  Technology  (NSET)  and  got  various  information  regarding  structural damages  caused  by  Gorkha  earthquake.  After  acquiring  knowledge  on  this  topic  through  internet  and  from  NSET  and DUDBC, the structural failure analysis of buildings affected during the earthquake in Kathmandu Valley was done by photo observation. Both unreinforced masonry buildings and reinforced masonry structures suffered low to heavy destruction. The construction  and  structural deficiencies were  identified  to be  the major  cause of  failure, however  local  soil  amplification, foundation problems, liquefaction associated damages and local settlement related damages were also significantly observed during this earthquake and reported in the paper. The Gorkha earthquake sequences delivered unprecedented opportunity to augment the understanding on seismic performance of the buildings. This paper is also motivated to point out the faintness in the past to current constructional practice of buildings, provide preventive measure and convey awareness to stake holders for future safer building construction practice.

Abstract: Introduction: Head and neck cancer is the sixth most common cancer in the world. The disease burden is increasing at an alarming rate in developing Southeast Asian countries. This study aims to report the histopathological spectrum of oral cavity lesions at a tertiary cancer center in central Nepal. Methods: This study included all those cases of oral cavity lesions, of which diagnostic biopsy was done from January 2018 to December 2019. The data were retrieved from the Department of Pathology of BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital. The study proposal was approved by the Institutional Review Committee at BPKMCH (Ref: 247/2020) on 28th June 2020. Convenience sampling was done. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 20 using descriptive statistics. Results: A total of 851 cases of oral cavity lesions were included in this study. The mean age of the study population was 55.9 years, with male to female ratio of 3:1. Malignant lesions composed of 472 (55.5%) cases followed by premalignant lesion of 104 (12%). More than 453 (95%) malignant cases were squamous cell carcinoma, of which 342 (75%) were a well-differentiated type. The buccal cavity is the most common site of malignant lesion 212 (45%), followed by tongue 96 (20%) and lower gingivobuccal region 86 (18%). Conclusions: Malignant lesions are the most common histopathological findings in the oral cavity lesion with squamous cell carcinoma type. Oral cancer is common cancer that can be prevented and cured if detected early.

Abstract: The prevalence and drug resistance of the respiratory pathogens is increasing gradually in Nepal. However, their detail study is rare in the western region of Nepal. Hence, this study was carried out to know the incidence and antibiotic susceptibility profile of the respiratory pathogens obtained at a tertiary care center located at Pokhara. 139 pathogens were isolated from 460 clinical samples included. Significant pathogens were Gram-negative bacteria 94 (67.62%), followed by 28 (20.15%) Candida, and Gram-positive isolates 17 (12.23%). The growth rate was significantly higher for sputum samples in comparison to throat swabs. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Acinetobacter were significant Gram-negative isolates while Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Streptococcus pyogenes were Gram-positive pathogens. Sensitivity rate was higher for colistin and imipenem among Gram-negative isolates while lower sensitivity was for cefepime. Vancomycin was effective against all tested Gram-positive isolates while erythromycin and ciprofloxacin were less effective.

Abstract: Background: Bradycardia occurring during laparoscopic surgery potentially leads to cardiac arrest and adverse outcomes. Apart from the vagal reflex for its genesis, the knowledge on frequency and risk factors is limited.  Objectives: To identify the bradycardia frequency and time points for its occurrence during laparoscopic surgeries. Methodology: In this hospital-based cross-sectional study, anaesthesia-related incident reports on bradycardia were collected from January to December 2019. Bradycardias (heart rate less than 60/minute) that occurred during laparoscopic surgeries were analyzed to characterize patient factors, the time point for occurrence, circumstantial events, management strategies, and outcomes. Results: Among 801 laparoscopic surgeries, 28 (3.4%) bradycardic incidents were identified, with one progressing to cardiac arrest. All bradycardias occurred in 26 patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anaesthesia, with two patients each experiencing two bradycardic episodes. The mean patient age was 45 (±16.3) years and 17 (65.3%) were women. Fifteen (57.6%) patients had no co-morbidity. Controlled hypertension and hypothyroidism co-existed in seven (26.9%) and three (11.5%) cases respectively. Bradycardia occurred once each (3.5%) during laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation. Six (21.4%) and twenty (71.4%) bradycardias respectively occurred before and during pneumoperitoneum. The mean of minimum heart rates was 43 (±8.8) per minute. Anticholinergics were administered in 25 (89.2%) incidents. Stopping surgery and pneumoperitoneum deflation included other major management strategies. The cardiac arrest case received chest compressions and adrenaline. Surgery resumed in all cases without adversity. Conclusion: Bradycardia occurs during laparoscopic surgery, more frequently during pneumoperitoneum and in healthy and younger females. Immediate cessation of surgical stimuli and atropine administration possibly prevent bradycardia from progressing to cardiac arrest.

Abstract: NSAIDs may be rare but an important cause of urticarial which should not be missed. Abstract The aspirin and urticaria correlation has not been fully understood. The pharmacological inference is suspected to be the diversion of arachidonic acid metabolism. Aspirin sensitivity can aggravate preexisting chronic urticaria and in some instances causes acute urticaria. We report a case of a 53‐year‐old male, recently diagnosed with a stroke, who presented with complaints of multiple rashes over the trunk and upper extremities with aspirin. NSAIDs induced urticarial are usually neglected by physicians during diagnosis.
