Abstract: Information regarding the records of Brazilian marine gastrotrichs is presented. We systematized and organized the existing information associated with approximately 23 species (belonging to the genera Aspidiophorus , Chaetonotus , Crasiella , Dactylopodola , Dendrodasys , Draculiciteria , Halichaetonotus , Heteroxenotrichula , Kryptodasys , Macrodasys , Pseudostomella , Ptychostomella , Urodasys and Xenotrichula ) from the Brazilian coast (eight endemic) and their 1,581 records from 36 marine ecoregions of the world. A link is provided to an on-line interactive map where all occurrences for each species are shown, accompanied by geographic coordinates, oceans, countries, cities, granulometric characteristics and ecoregions. Furthermore, a critical analysis of the geographical distribution of Brazilian marine gastrotrichs, an estimate of the number of undescribed species, a summary of the existence and status of taxonomical collections are also presented.

Abstract: The family Turbanellidae includes Paraturbanella and five other genera. Despite the fact that the monophyly of these genera were not satisfactorily tested, species belonging to the genus Paraturbanella are distinguished from turbanellids by sharing a peculiar group of tubes on the ventrolateral side of the anterior pharyngeal region known as “dohrni” tubes. In this study, Paraturbanella tricaudata species nova (sp. nov.) from the intertidal zone of a sandy beach in Trindade (Rio de Janeiro State) and the sublittoral sand of Prumirim Island (São Paulo State), Brazil, is described. The new species can be distinguished from all other Paraturbanella species by the presence of three caudal cones (one medial and two laterals to it) and peculiar arrangement of the male system. This is the first description of a Paraturbanella species from Brazil and the third registered from the Southern Hemisphere (as opposed to 19 species in the Northern Hemisphere); thus, knowledge of marine gastrotrichs biodiversity in this region is far from satisfactory.

Abstract: Gastrotrichs are aquatic microinvertebrates (less than 1 mm long) commonly found in freshwater and marine environments worldwide. The taxonomy of gastrotrichs is mainly based on external morphological characters, such as body shape and size of the different body regions, presence and distribution of adhesive tubules, or the microstructure of the external cuticle (e.g. scales, spines, cephalic plates). The diversity of Gastrotricha is still poorly known, especially in tropical regions. The aim of this study is to use integrative taxonomy to report new records of Chaetonotus dadayi, C. paucisquamatus and C. furcatus from the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, Brazil. In this study we present 1) new records of C. dadayi in Brazil with new morphological information and a first-time comprehensive diagnosis of the species; 2) the redescription of C. paucisquamatus based on material collected at the type locality and the neotype designation; and 3) the first record of C. furcatus outside its type locality. We also discuss the actual occurrence of C. paucisquamatus and C. furcatus in Poland, given that both species were found in artificial environments with flora imported from South America.

Phasmatodea (Insecta) from Espinhaço Range, Chapada Diamantina Plateau (MG) Abstract. The specimens of the Order Phasmatodea are popular know as Stick insects or leaf insect characterized by a remarkable similarity to their host vegetation. Currently, more than 3000 species are considered valid in the world, grouped in 523 genera and 13 families. The Brazilian phasmid fauna has more than 200 species described, but most of than show taxonomical problems. The present communication is a taxonomic survey of the phasmids fauna found in the municipality of Diamantina-MG, Chapada Diamantina plateau, Espinhaço range. Samplings were done in the forest gallery of Soberbo Stream, Biribiri State Park and Sempre-Vivas National Park, during the dry and wet seasons, between October 2009 to march 2010. A total of 47 specimens have been examined, 20 female, 17 male and 10 nymphs belonging to the family Heteronemiidae, with 2 genera Heteronemia and Paraleptynia, and the family Pseudophasmatidae with the genus Paraphasma were collected only in the wet period. Furthermore, an identification key for all phasmids genera identified from Minas Gerais State is also provided.

Synopsis of Phasmatodea (Insecta) Described from Brazil Abstract. Systematics involves description, naming of taxa, classification and phylogenetics determination of evolutionary relationships among the living. The decline in taxonomists available and the lack of taxonomic expertise lead to the so-called taxonomical impediments. The diversity and distribution of the phasmids in Brazil is still little known as any taxonomist is available in the country. However, although this poor knowledge in the Brazilian phasmids, it is possible to observe many taxonomical problems, very few literatures available. Thus, in this paper we listed all species originally described from Brazil and pointed out some notes about the taxonomic history of the phasmids from Brazil.
