Abstract: Labor‐saving pesticide application technology is eagerly pursued in the planting system of Chinese chives. In this study, we developed a set of application approaches by turning fungicides into smoke to achieve this goal. RESULTS The fungicides fludioxonil, fluopyram, boscalid, procymidone, and prochloraz could be vaporized into smoke at temperatures below 300 °C. The SFR (smoke formation rate) decreased with the increasing temperature. At 300 °C, the SFR of fludioxonil, fluopyram, boscalid and procymidone were all higher than 80%. At 300 °C and 600 °C, there were no significant differences in the smoke particle state of these five fungicides. However, the inhibition rate of these five fungicides against the growth of Botrytis squamosa generally decreased with the temperature. At 600 °C, only fludioxonil and boscalid had inhibition rates higher than 80%. The deposition uniformity of fungicide smoke increased with the increasing amounts of NH 4 Cl. When the amount of NH 4 Cl reached 80% of the total content, the smoke of fungicide was uniformly deposited throughout each glass slide. In the greenhouse experiment, the control efficacy of fungicide application by smoke was significantly better than that of spraying application, whereas its residue was much lower. CONCLUSION It is feasible to control air‐borne disease through the vaporization of fungicides into smoke by electrical heating. Smoke application would effectively inhibit the spores in the air and would not increase the humidity of the environment. These findings indicate that smoke application is a labor‐saving pesticide application technology viable in production. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract: Whether the testis-specific extracellular vesicle (EV) long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in seminal plasma could be utilized to predict the presence of testicular spermatozoa in nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) patients? SUMMARY ANSWER Our findings indicate that the panel based on seminal plasma EV lncRNAs was a sensitive and specific method in predicting the presence of testicular spermatozoa and may improve clinical decision-making of NOA. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY The adoption of sperm retrieval techniques, especially microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE), in combination with ICSI has revolutionized treatment for NOA. However, there are no precise and noninvasive methods for predicting whether there are testicular spermatozoa in NOA patients before mTESE. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION RNA sequencing was performed on seminal plasma EVs from 6 normozoospermic men who underwent IVF due to female factor and 5 idiopathic NOA patients who failed to obtain testicular spermatozoa by mTESE and were diagnosed as having Sertoli cell-only syndrome by postoperative pathology. A biomarker panel of lncRNAs was constructed and verified in 96 NOA patients who underwent mTESE. Decision-making process was established based on the panel in seminal plasma EVs from 45 normozoospermia samples, 43 oligozoospermia samples, 62 cryptozoospermia samples, 96 NOA samples. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS RNA sequencing was done to examine altered profiles of EV lncRNAs in seminal plasma. Furthermore, a panel consisting of EV lncRNAs was established and evaluated in training set and validation sets. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE A panel consisting of nine differentially expressed testis-specific lncRNAs, including LOC100505685, SPATA42, CCDC37-DT, GABRG3-AS1, LOC440934, LOC101929088 (XR_927561.2), LOC101929088 (XR_001745218.1), LINC00343 and LINC00301, was established in the training set and the AUC was 0.986. Furthermore, the AUC in the validation set was 0.960. Importantly, the panel had a unique advantage when compared with models based on serum hormones from the same group of NOA cases (AUC, 0.970 vs 0.723; 0.959 vs 0.687, respectively). According to the panel of lncRNAs, a decision-making process was established, that is when the score of an NOA case exceeds 0.532, sperm retrieval surgery may be recommended. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION In the future, the sample size needs to be further expanded. Meanwhile, the regulatory functions and mechanism of lncRNAs in spermatogenesis also need to be elucidated. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS When the score of our panel is below 0.532, subjecting the NOA patients to ineffective surgical interventions may not be recommended due to poor sperm retrieval rate. Abstract: Effective and quick screening and cardiotoxicity assessment are very crucial for drug development. Here, a novel composite hydrogel composed of carbon fibers (CFs) with high conductivity and modulus with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is reported. The conductivity of the composite hydrogel PVA/CFs is similar to that of natural heart tissue, and the elastic modulus is close to that of natural heart tissue during systole, due to the incorporation of CFs. PVA/CFs remarkably enhance the maturation of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCM) in vitro by upregulating the expression of α‐actinin, troponin T, and connexin‐43, activating the signaling pathway of α5 and β1 integrin‐dependent ILK/p‐AKT, and increasing the level of RhoA and hypoxia‐inducible factor‐1α. As a result, the engineered cell sheet–like constructs NRCM@PVA/CFs display much more synchronous, stable, and robust beating behavior than NRCM@PVA. When exposed to doxorubicin or isoprenaline, NRCM@PVA/CFs can retain effective beating for much longer time or change the contractile rate much faster than NRCM@PVA, respectively, therefore representing a promising heart‐like platform for in vitro drug screening and cardiotoxicity assessment.

Abstract: From 2019 to 2021, we constructed two high-productivity geothermal wells with wellhead temperatures of 109.2 and 123.4°C in the Gaoyang geothermal field. Based on the two wells, it was proved that Gaoyang is a medium-temperature carbonate geothermal field with great development potential. The article reported the latest exploration achievements of deep buried hill geothermal resources in the geothermal field. The productivity of D34 and D35 geothermal wells were evaluated by James end-pressure method: the total flow of steam–water mixture was 234.59–331.92 (t/h), the dryness was 1.36–2.03%, and the single-well power generation potential was 2.10–2.55 MW. Combined with those results, the heat control factors and heat accumulation mechanism of the deep carbonatite geothermal field were confirmed. The westward subduction of the Pacific plate caused obvious damage to the eastern North China Craton and greatly reduced the thickness of the lithosphere and crust. This process facilitated the conduction of mantle-derived heat to shallow crust. Deep strike-slip faults (e.g., Maxi fault) cut through the lithosphere, leading the deep mantle-derived heat and magma to migrate into the crust. The heat accumulated from the depression with low thermal conductivity to the uplift with high thermal conductivity. Groundwater was heated up by deep cycle and convection along faults. The catchment of regional karst groundwater also had a certain effect on the heat accumulation. The Gaoyang geothermal field was formed by these factors.

Abstract: Studying the flow path of geothermal water in geothermal fields is an important basis for the scientific development and management of geothermal resources. However, due to the influence of engineering volume, economic benefits and demand, it is very difficult to fully grasp the flow path of deep geothermal water in large areas. The use of hydrogeochemical tracers to determine the flow path of geothermal water is a scientific and effective research method. In order to accurately describe the flow path of carbonate geothermal water in the Xiong’an New Area and its surrounding areas, this study systematically analyzed the 14 C, 18 O, and 2 H data of carbonate and Cenozoic sandstone geothermal water, Quaternary groundwater, as well as mountain spring water of the study area. Based on these results, we can conclude that 1) The 14 C, d , and 18 O values are favourable clues for indicating the circulating runoff conditions and runoff paths of geothermal water. 2) The salinity of the Xushui-Wenan and Lilan transfer zone are & lt;3 g/l, the 14 C values are lower than 25000 years, the d value is higher, and the phenomenon of “ 18 O drift” is weak, all these indicating the dominant flow path of carbonate geothermal water, featured by relative lower temperature. 3) The salinity of karst geothermal water in the southwest of Gaoyang low uplift, Rongcheng uplift and Niutuozhen uplift is & gt; 3 g/l, the 14 C values are higher than 40,000 years, the d value is lower, and the phenomenon of “ 18 O drift” is obvious, all these indicating that the tectonic sites are the convergence areas of regional karst geothermal water, featured by relative high temperature. 4) The hydrochemical indicators combined with previous carbonate groundwater flow field indicate that the recharge of carbonate geothermal water in the Xiong’an New Area may not only drive from the western Taihang Mountains, but also along the Xushui-Wenan transfer zone and the Lilan fault, with the recharge of carbonate groundwater from the Cangxian uplift from east to west. By further identifying and defining the dominant flow path and supply direction of carbonate geothermal water in the Xiong’an New Area and surrounding areas, it provides strong support for the scientific development of regional carbonate geothermal water.
