Abstract:
Surface modification of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) from hydrophobic to hydrophilic by Xe excimer lamp irradiation is performed in order to enhance the adhesion of ferrite-plated films onto the PTFE. The contact angle of water droplet is about 60° before irradiation and decreases to 5° after irradiation. It is found that under the same ferrite plating condition, with increase of irradiation time, many more Fe 3 O 4 nucleation sites are formed due to the increase of the number of OH groups on the PTFE caused by Xe excimer lamp irradiation photomodification.
