Abstract: Foreign language learners have difficulties understanding texts because they try to code and decode in their mother tongue; then, the necessity of looking for a strategy to help them is crucial. The objective of this research is to show how digital graphic organizers (DGOs) help students develop reading comprehension, especially in understanding the evolution of the English language. The review of different theories about DGOs guided to identify a proto-typed model of analysis and design digital activities to represent students' understanding of a text. Methodologically, an experimental design consisting of pre and post-treatment tests were applied in the control and experimental group, during fall 2019 in the English Language Teaching Bachelor at BUAP, on a sample of 60 subjects. A treatment phase (didactic intervention) to prove the suitability of the proposal took place by using DGOs as a tool to promote reading comprehension of texts and knowledge representation. The most outstanding results were a deeper understanding of facts, historical events, the ability to synthesize information with DGOs, and the motivation to read about historical events. In conclusion, this way of developing understanding and representation of the knowledge was perceived positively by the subjects.

Abstract: Nowadays, the integration of social networking sites (SNS) into the education field, like Facebook, has changed the way people communicate with each other and created new learning approaches. Therefore, the importance of implementing pedagogical strategies for English language learning (ELL) to create new learning classrooms either physical or virtual should be privileged this time. The objectives of this research article are to know if the Facebook tool helps students to learn vocabulary in English, and identify what learning strategies they use to learn vocabulary meanwhile interacting with this tool. Thus, the research questions are: 1. Does Facebook allow students to learn vocabulary in English? 2. What learning strategies do students use to learn vocabulary when interacting on facebook? Concerning methodology, the research was accomplished by using a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design and a Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed that Facebook is useful to learn not only vocabulary but also English language since students used the vocabulary in authentic, natural, and meaningful contexts. Besides, it provides important data to identify different strategies used to learn vocabulary because this social network became part of their learning process.

Abstract: The teaching-learning process is a binomial in constant change due to its actors and contexts. Therefore, this process requires an update to respond to students’ needs according to their learning styles. Given this situation, the objective of this study is to know if TikTok, as a didactic tool, can contribute to said educational update and develop oral skills since it centers on communicative competence. Regarding the methodology, the descriptive quantitative approach took place on a 50-student sample enrolled in an extracurricular course. The findings provide contributions of a theoretical nature since they characterize TikTok as a didactic tool to update the English teaching-learning process with an innovative, participatory, and collaborative methodology with motivational features and ubiquitous learning. Besides, it contributes to oral skills development through the construction of knowledge, interpersonal relationships, discursive and sociocultural skills development, and the promotion of positive attitudes towards work (commitment).

Abstract: Information and communication technologies have an elemental place in the field of education by offering students an attractive way for the appropriation of knowledge of a foreign language. An example of this is the digital learning objects (LOs) that provide learning with characteristics different from the traditional class. This article aims to know the perceptions of university-level students regarding the use of LOs in a virtual environment to promote written competence in English as a foreign language. A quantitative descriptive approach took place to characterize these perceptions, as well as a Likert-type questionnaire with four response categories to collect data and identify students’ opinions. As a result, we obtain an accurate description of the benefits of using the instructional model such as active learning, autonomous writing through writing strategies and digital tools for correction and editing, identification of positive changes in the students’ performance with motivational features, and incorporation of writing in different genres. Finally, the study provides a theoretical contribution regarding the use of digital tools on the Moodle platform to develop written competence.

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the differences and similarities in clinical picture, laboratory findings and outcomes between children’s with Kawasaki Disease (KD) versus multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C). Methods: We conducted a retrospective, comparative study from children with Kawasaki Disease (KD) hospitalized in Sinaloa Pediatric Hospital from January 1, 2004, to March 31, 2020, and patients with multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) according with World Health Organization (WHO) case definition criteria between May 1, 2020 and May 31, 2021. Demographic characteristics, epidemiological data, clinical features, laboratory findings, type of treatment and clinical outcomes were compared among both groups. Results: Eighty-one patients were included (62 patients with KD and 19 with MIS-C). several clinical and laboratory differences were found among these two entities. Median age was lower in KD vs. MIS-C (25 vs 79 months). Mucocutaneous features (93.5 vs. 63.2%): Oral changes (83.9 vs. 63.2%) and extremity changes (77.4 vs. 57.9%). Neurological symptoms (63.1 vs. 11.2%), kidney involvement (52.6 vs. 16.1%). Lymphocyte count (2.07 + 2.03 vs. 4.28 + 3.01/mm3), platelet count (197.89 + 187.51 vs. 420.37 + 200.08/mm3). KD vs. MIS-C types of Treatment: IVIG (96.8 vs. 94.7%), systemic steroids (4.82 vs. 94.7%), IVIG resistance (19.4 vs. 15.8). Finally, mortality in KD was 0% and 5.3% in MIS-C. Conclusion: Significant differences such as severity of clinical presentation with multi-organ involvement and worst inflammatory response were found more frequently in MIS-C group than KD group, requiring more fluid replacement, use of inotropic agents and higher steroids dosages. Also, mortality rate was higher in patients with MIS-C than patients with KD.
