    Relationship between early-life stress and trait mindfulness in adulthood: a correlational study

    Abstract: To investigate the relationship between early-life stress (ELS) and the trait mindfulness level in workers. Method This study is quantitative cross-sectional and correlational research with a sample of 929 workers from a Brazilian public university. ELS and mindfulness assessment was performed using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) and the Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire-BR (FFMQ-BR), respectively. The data were submitted to correlation tests adopting a significance level of .05 and a multivariate linear regression analysis. Results 50.0% of the participants obtained a score indicative of ELS exposure in at least one subtype among the five proposed by the CTQ, with emotional neglect predominating (63.0%). The group not exposed to emotional abuse had higher scores in the “describe—positive formulation” and “non-reactivity to inner experience” facets. Those that scored for physical abuse had higher values in “acting with awareness—autopilot”. However, the group exposed to sexual abuse obtained the highest score in the “acting with awareness—autopilot” and “acting with awareness—distraction” facets. The correlation between FFMQ-BR and CTQ overall scores showed a weak correlation with statistical significance. The multiple linear revealed that the facets of mindfulness were significantly associated by at least one type of early stress; however, no significant association was found between CTQ and FFMQ-BR overall results. Conclusion The results showed that emotional regulation might have effectively occurred in this specific population, even with the presence of some childhood trauma.

    Visceral leishmaniasis and HIV coinfection in Brazil: epidemiological profile and spatial patterns

    Abstract: Geographical overlap of human visceral leishmaniasis (HVL) and HIV infection favors occurrences of HVL/HIV coinfection. The increasing numbers of cases of HVL/HIV coinfection are a worldwide concern and knowledge of the factors involved can help in developing preventive measures. Methods We aimed to identify spatial patterns and describe the epidemiological profile of HVL/HIV coinfection in Brazil from 2007 to 2015. This was an ecological study, in which thematic maps were created through geoprocessing tools, based on secondary data obtained from open-access platforms, to identify priority areas for interventions for controlling HLV/HIV coinfection, using the TerraView 4.2.2 software. Results We found spatial autocorrelations between the HVL/HIV rates of neighboring municipalities according to the global Moran index (0.10; p & lt;0.01). The highest HVL/HIV rate was in the central-western region. Among the epidemiological characteristics according to the regions, an increasing trend in the annual variation rate was observed, with positive values over the years and statistical significance (p & lt;0.05) in the North with 1.62 (95% CI 0.57 to 2.69; p=0.02) and Northeast with 6.41 (95% CI 2.60 to 10.37; p=0.006). Similarly, increasing trends were observed in the states of Maranhão with 21.34 (95% CI 13.99 to 9.16; p & lt;0.001) and Sergipe with 5.44 (95% CI 0.61 to 10.50; p=0.04). Conclusions Our results showed spatial overlap between occurrences of HVL and HIV with spatial patterns of HVL/HIV coinfection, thus revealing that the numbers of cases reported are increasing. Identifying areas with higher coinfection indices contributes to applying interventions and control measures among targeted populations, to prevent new cases.

    Abstract: Este estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar a resiliência em crianças e adolescentes que sofreram abusos na infância a partir de revisão da literatura científica. Revisão integrativa com evidências da literatura, nas bases de dados Web of Science, PubMed/Medline e PsycInfo, com os descritores resilience, psychological e child abuse. Foram encontrados 17 artigos, no período de 2011 e 2015. De acordo com a produção científica analisada, encontrou-se que os abusos na infância têm relação negativa com o desenvolvimento da resiliência e favorável ao surgimento de sintomatologia depressiva e ansiosa. Fatores como o apoio social e familiar apresentam relação positiva com a resiliência. Conclui-se que o desenvolvimento da resiliência em crianças e adolescentes vítimas de abuso pode atuar como fator protetor para estes indivíduos.

    Abstract: Objetivo: analisar os fatores que influenciam a qualidade de vida (QV) e o nível de desesperança de familiares de dependentes químicos (DQ). Método: participaram 104 familiares de dependentes em tratamento. Utilizou-se uma ficha de perfil sociodemográfico, o Critério de Classificação Econômica do Brasil (CCEB), a Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) e o World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-bref). Resultados: constatou-se a predominância do nível moderado de desesperança e QV comprometida, principalmente no domínio meio ambiente. Estar solteiro, possuir menor renda mensal, ter familiar que usa drogas por mais de cinco anos, não estar inserido no mercado de trabalho, ter três ou menos pessoas morando na residência, não ter transporte próprio e ser pai ou mãe do usuário influenciam negativamente a QV. Familiares analfabetos e com menor renda tiveram mais desesperança. Conclusão: características sociodemográficas influenciam a QV e o nível de desesperança sendo importante implementar políticas que melhorem esses dados para obter melhores índices de QV e desesperança.

    Abstract: Q method, a mixed methods research approach, is used to explore points of view and attitudes towards a specific phenomenon from subjective human perspectives. There has been an increase in the use of digital technologies in education and it has become necessary to investigate the difficulties and facilities of health professionals and students in order to improve the use of such technologies for teaching and learning. We aimed to identify and evaluate studies that employed Q method to investigate the use of digital technologies in Health Professions Education. To achieve this, a systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA Statement Guidelines. The selection of articles was based on the search strategy (("Q-sort" OR "Q-methodology" OR "Q-technique")) AND (("Teaching") OR ("Learning")). Of the 1,398 articles found, 13 were selected in accordance with the adopted inclusion criteria. The articles successfully applied Q method to health issues, which expands its application possibilities and provides a contribution to mixed methods research. Another contribution is the use of the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool in this type of review. In view of the pressing need for education changes, using mixed methods research, particularly Q method, to investigate teaching culture and practice, can successfully support the renewal of Health Professions Education.

    Abstract: O ano de 2020 foi marcado pelo surgimento da COVID-19, que resultou em uma quarentena a nível mundial como uma das medidas de contenção da disseminação da doença. O distanciamento físico, imposto pela COVID-19, resultou em efeitos negativos para a saúde mental de estudantes universitários. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a saúde mental de estudantes universitários durante a quarentena imposta pela COVID-19 em uma instituição de ensino superior no estado do Maranhão, Brasil. Para a coleta de dados acerca da saúde mental dos estudantes, utilizou-se a versão reduzida da Escala de Depressão, Ansiedade e Estresse (DASS-21), na forma de questionário online.  A maioria dos participantes era do sexo feminino (64,3%). No que refere aos sintomas de estresse, a maioria dos estudantes apresentaram níveis considerados normais. Já em relação aos níveis de ansiedade e depressão, a maior parte dos estudantes apresentaram sintomas extremamente severos. A prevalência de depressão, ansiedade e estresse foi significativamente diferente entre homens e mulheres, sendo as mulheres as mais afetadas. Os resultados evidenciam a necessidade de implementação de projetos pedagógicos político-institucionais voltados para a saúde mental dos estudantes, bem como o diagnóstico precoce, tratamento e acompanhamento de possíveis transtornos mentais durante e após a pandemia da COVID-19.

    Abstract: Objetivo: identificar os sentimentos dos enfermeiros frente ao paciente sem possibilidades de cura, suas maiores dificuldades e discutir aspectos relevantes ao preparo dos enfermeiros no processo morte/morrer em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva. Método: pesquisa descritiva, qualitativa em três hospitais públicos e privados no interior do Maranhão com 33 enfermeiros atuantes em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva. Dados coletados entre agosto e setembro de 2015 com entrevista semiestruturada e analisados por meio da análise temática. Resultados: organizados em três categorias temáticas principais: Sentimentos que envolvem enfermeiros frente ao óbito do paciente; A morte na rotina de trabalho que influencia na vida pessoal dos enfermeiros e Preparo do enfermeiro da graduação para lidar com o processo de morte. Conclusão: o enfrentamento da morte é um desafio para os enfermeiros visto que nem todas as instituições de ensino oferecem abordagem aprofundada relacionada ao processo de morte/morrer.

    A saúde mental entre estudantes universitários: uma revisão bibliométrica

    Abstract: Objetivo: entender as tendências de pesquisa, citações, autorias, colaborações, assim como contribuições globais relacionadas à saúde mental em estudantes universitários. Método: revisão bibliométrica gráfica realizada com estudos publicados de 2011 até 2022 na base Web of Science (WoS), utilizando os programas de software, VoSviewer (Visualization of Similarities) e o pacote biblioshiny do programa estatístico R para as análises. Resultados: os 3.000 artigos mais citados no WoS foram transportados para o aplicativo Rayyan, no qual identificou-se três artigos duplicados e três que não abordavam a temática de saúde mental dos estudantes. Os 2994 estudos foram elegíveis para serem analisados utilizando o aplicativo VoSviewer. Dos 2.994 artigos transportados para o biblioshiny, foram excluídos 198 pelos filtros do próprio aplicativo, ao fim, 2796 artigos foram analisados. A taxa de crescimento anual de publicações durante o período analisado foi de 8,52%, o número médio de citações por artigo foi de 9,59, e o país mais produtivos foi o EUA com um total de 1080 artigos. Conclusão: a quantidade de publicações em saúde mental de estudantes universitários tem aumentado consideravelmente desde 2011 com colaboração ampla entre países, principalmente os desenvolvidos. Dessa forma, a maior produtividade ocorre nos países de renda alta que mantêm parcerias entre si. A COVID-19 tem surgido como palavra-chave de 2020 em diante refletindo o impacto da pandemia na educação e na saúde mental de estudantes universitários pelo mundo.

    Abstract: Early guidance emphasizes the provision of information to families about growth and normal development in childhood such as specific information about security at home. This research aimed to analyze mothers' knowledge about the prevention of accidents in childhood before and after an educational intervention. It was conducted as a quasi-experimental study with 155 mothers in a Basic Health Unit in northeastern of Brazil in April and May of 2015. The data were collected in two stages through a self-report questionnaire performed before and after the educational intervention by the subjects. The results revealed a significant increase in knowledge about prevention of accidents in childhood in all the self-applied questions (p 〈 0.05). After the educational intervention, there seemed to be a significant difference with the questions regarding the knowledge on preventing fall (p=0.000), drowning (p=0.000), and intoxication (p=0.007). The authors concluded that the educational intervention performed in this study increased the subjects’ knowledge on prevention of accidents in childhood.

    Abstract: Trata-se de um ensaio teórico e reflexivo com características descritivas, proposto após a observação de dinâmicas nas práticas dos serviços de saúde mental. A reflexão foi baseada nos resultados de buscas na legislação brasileira que rege a assistência à saúde mental, de artigos de periódicos especializados em ciências da saúde em geral, saúde mental, psiquiatria e saúde públicas, além de livros nas áreas descritas e de autores considerados especialista com ampla produção teórico-cientifica. Os profissionais tornam-se vulneráveis a eventos estressores não resolvidos no local de trabalho, assim o adoecimento mental é uma possibilidade quando os gestores e a sociedade não percebem as necessidades dos trabalhadores, ignorando suas queixas e apontamentos. Nas situações em que algum membro da equipe multiprofissional demonstra atitudes e comportamentos negativos, possivelmente estará afetando os demais colegas, criando um ambiente nocivo e tóxico para a equipe e dificultando o processo de trabalho para a recuperação do paciente e família. Ainda são necessários mais estudos e pesquisas nesta área, visto que poucos artigos enfatizaram a saúde mental da equipe do CAPS, pouco se escreve sobre o sofrimento dos profissionais que atuam em unidades de saúde mental. Há pouca valorização sobre este tema, implícito está que os trabalhadores da saúde não adoecem, nem tem necessidades, apenas assistem ao paciente em sofrimento.
