Abstract: Nursing education needs to be improved in order to bridge the gap between education and clinical practice. However, clinical placements for nursing students are limited and student nurses often take merely an observer role, especially in critical situations. High-fidelity simulation (HFS) is a teaching method that can bridge the gap between education and clinical practice. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of using HFS as a teaching method on clinical judgment among pediatric nursing students at the Arab American University utilizing a bacterial meningitis case scenario. Methods A quasi-experimental study with a convenience sample of one hundred and fifty baccalaureate nursing students enrolled in a pediatric health nursing course. Nursing students were randomly assigned to high-fidelity simulation experience or traditional methods. The clinical judgment was assessed using Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric Tool. Results Results revealed that the high-fidelity simulation experience has improved pediatric nursing students’ clinical judgment. The mean clinical judgment differed significantly at post-test in the intervention group after the simulation (t (148) = 7.20, P 〈 .001). Conclusion The HFS can be an effective tool to provide a safe and effective learning environment for pediatric nursing students, consequently improving their clinical judgment

Abstract: Pain is alleviated in one of the two common approaches, pharmacological or non-pharmacological intervention. Using non-pharmacological methods may have beneficial effect and priority on decreasing patients’ level of pain and decreasing the side effects of pharmacological methods in ICU patients. This study aimed to assess ICU Palestinian nurses use and barriers of non-pharmacological pain management. Methods A quantitative descriptive cross-sectional design was used to collect responses from a convenient sample of 215 nurses working in six hospitals in Plaestine. The timeframe for data collection was from August 2022 to December 2022. This study had three instrument packages. The first part is demographic data. The second is a tool that used 4-point Likert scale to examine ICU nursing use of non-pharmacological pain methods and it consisted of 16 items. The third is six items of perceived barriers to use non-pharmacological pain methods. All statistical procedures were analyzed using Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS) version 28. Results More than two-thirds of the nurses used non-pharmacological pain methods in ICU. 60% of the nurses have high levels of use, 10.2% have very high levels. The two highest perceived barriers to use nonpharmacological method were the lack of time, workload, and patient instability with 83.7% (n = 180), and 77.2% (n = 166), respectively. Demographic variables were not significantly associated with the use of non-pharmacological pain management methods, except age. Conclusion Adopting culturally sensitive non-pharmacological pain methods to decrease ICU patients’ level of pain, may positively reflected on patients’ outcome and on healthcare system. Developing, implementing and continuous monitoring of guidelines regarding using nonpharmacological for nurses and physicians are recommended which will be reflected positively on patients’ outcomes. Great efforts to overcome the barriers of lack of time and workload is impertive to increase the clinical usage of nonpharmacological pain methods.

Abstract: Palliative care is a method of preventing and alleviating suffering for patients who have been diagnosed with terminal diseases by early detection, accurate assessments, and pain and symptom management. Patients and their families can then mitigate related physical, psychological, and spiritual challenges and thus will have a better quality of life. This article reports a study that evaluated undergraduate nursing students' knowledge of and attitude and self-efficacy toward palliative and end-of-life care in Palestine. A descriptive, cross-sectional design was used among a convenience sample of 449 undergraduate nursing students at the end of their second, third, and fourth years. The results of this research revealed that nursing students had low levels of knowledge about palliative care and low self-efficacy toward end-of-life care. The majority of students reported a positive disposition toward the provision of end-of-life care. The most important predictors of knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy were age, having attended a seminar/lecture on the issue, experiencing death while providing care, and having experienced a death in the family or close friends. Furthermore, elevated levels of knowledge were significantly associated with higher level of attitude ( P 〈 .001) about palliative care.

Abstract: Working in closed wards at hospitals during night-time shifts and using electronic health records may raise the risk of dry eye disease in nurses. Objective The purpose of the current study was to assess the prevalence and associated factors of dry eye disease among hospital nurses in the North West Bank, Palestine. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study. The study included 300 nurses who work at hospitals in the North West Bank, Palestine. The Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire on dry eye disease was used to estimate the prevalence of symptomatic dry eye disease. Results The percentage of dry eye disease prevalence among study participants was 62% with an OSDI score of 〉 13 (mild to moderate and severe OSDI status). Nurses who wore contact lenses worked during the night-time, and worked in the intensive care unit were more likely to report significantly higher OSDI scores ( p  〈  .05). Moreover, gender, smoking, and computer use were not statistically associated with dry eye disease ( p  〉  .05). Conclusion Symptomatic dry eye disease is one of the most common ocular diseases among hospital nurses in Palestine.

Abstract: Student in a maternity nursing program must be engaged in practical training and they must be well prepared and directed along the way to becoming qualified professionals. Objective The study aimed to investigate the effect of progressive muscle relaxation exercise on anxiety among male nursing students undergoing maternity clinical training. Methods A quasi-experimental, pre-post study was conducted on nursing at Arab American University Palestine. The sample of the study consisted of 48 male nursing students enrolled in the maternity nursing course. They were selected through convenience sampling. This study was conducted on one group of male nursing students that received Jacobson's progressive muscle relaxation exercise for five consecutive days per week. The S-anxiety scale (STAI Form Y-1) was applied to collect data before and after the intervention. Results The magnitude of anxiety reduction after the progressive muscle relaxation exercise was greater than before ( t (47) = 21.2, p  〈  .05). Conclusion The current study's findings indicated the influence of progressive muscle relaxation on maternity clinical setting anxiety reduction among male nursing students.

Abstract: Eye care is an important area of critical care. However, lack of eye care studies is a common issue across the globe. The aim of this study is to determine the views and practices of intensive care unit (ICU) nurses on eye care in Turkey and Palestine. This descriptive study was conducted using a self-administrated questionnaire. The data were collected from 111 nurses in nine kinds of ICUs in two education hospital. Normal saline (75.9%) was the most commonly reported solution for eye hygiene among the Palestinian nurses, and gauze soaked in normal saline or sterile water (64.3%) were the most frequently used supplies by the Turkish nurses. Although both Palestinian and Turkish ICU nurses took some precautions to prevent eye complications in critical patients, there were some gaps and insufficiencies in the eye care of ICU patients. There is a need for continuing training in this area.
