Abstract: The government continues developing the smallholder beef cattle through various programs to reduce beef imports and increase farmers’ income. This research aims to describe the role of social capital at the farmer group level in the development of smallholder beef cattle in Bengkulu. The research was conducted from August to December in 2020 with an in-depth interview method involving 3 farmer groups receiving beef cattle aid from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health of Bengkulu Province. The identification of social capital (norms, trusts, and networks) that affects the development of livestock populations and increases the capacity of farmer groups is analyzed descriptively using an interactive model. The results show that social capital has an important role in developing the capacity of the farmer groups to manage livestock aid, namely (1) the norm of raising livestock with a profit sharing system causes an increase farmer group’s livestock population, (2) the trust of farmer groups members is influenced by social ties and the role of farmer group leader, and (3) a good network of cooperation within farmer groups increases social capital and livestock population.

Abstract: The cassava agribusiness system involves farmers from upstream to downstream. This study aims to determine the effect of the covid-19 pandemic on the cassava agribusiness system and the adaptation of farmers. The research was conducted from March to April 2021 in Pasar Pedati Village, Pondok Kelapa Subdistrict, which is the center of cassava production in Bengkulu Tengah Regency. Data has collected the conditions of cassava agribusiness system and farmers’ adaptation in pandemic through in-depth interviews involved seven key informants, besides observation and secondary data collections. Data analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the pandemic does not affect the entire cassava agribusiness, disrupted only the marketing and processing subsystem, because: (1) cassava cultivation is a part-time business that low costs input; (2) farmers adjusting the production capacity of cassava chips by the demands of traders; (3) farmers still selling cassava harvests in fresh form even at low prices and making dried cassava ( gaplek ) to extend the shelf life of cassava. Farmers continued to cultivate cassava in the hope that the pandemic will end at any time in addition to anticipating the fulfilled of family food needs to replace rice as a staple food.

Abstract: Pakuwon biofertilizer is a biological fertilizer that has advantages in synchronizing coffee flowering. This technological innovation was produced by the Research Institute for Industrial Crops and Refreshments (Balitri) of the Agricultural Research and Development Agency which is able to increase the productivity of coffee plants and the efficiency of harvest labor. This study aims to determine the response of farmers to the Pakuwon biofertilizer technology innovation. The research was conducted from June to August 2019 at the Pematang Manggis Farmer Group, Talang Ulu Village, Curup Timur District, which is one of the coffee production centers in Rejang Lebong. Data collection was carried out through survey techniques and demonstrations involving 12 farmers. The data collected is the response of farmers to the nature of Pakuwon biofertilizer technology innovation which includes relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, observability, and triability. The survey to determine the response of farmers was carried out twice, namely the first survey after the socialization of technology and the second survey after the implementation of demonstration methods in the field of 200 coffee plants over 10 years old. Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using response mapping and the Wilcoxon rank test. The results showed that the attributes of Pakuwon biofertilizer innovation, namely relative advantage, complexity, and triability, increased after the demonstration was carried out, the compatibility attributes were fixed, while the observability decreased. The decreasing observability is assumed because farmers are not sure about the results obtained because they have not seen the results of applying the Pakuwon biofertilizer in the field. Only the complexity attribute increased significantly after the demonstration of how to do it, showing that the application of Pakuwon biofertilizer technology innovation is easy to do in the field.
