Abstract: Ascaridia galli worm was chicken parasite that inflicted significant economic loss for breeders. Expensive commercial anthelmintic drug and drug resistance were the reasons why herbal anthelmintic study became strategic. The study aimed at finding out the effect of the application of turmeric (Curcuma domestica) extract in vivo on the number of eggs per gram (EPG) in feces. It used 30 free ranging chickens that were classified into 2 groups of 5 chickens with 3 repetitions. Group I served as control (Aquadestilata) and group II was treated using turmeric extract at the concentration of 2%, 3 times a week. Observation was conducted on days 1, 7, 14, 21, and 28. The results were then analyzed using Anova and advanced LSD test. The results of in vivo test showed that the application of the turmeric significantly decreased the number of the EPG as compared to negative control. The application of the turmeric had anthelmintic potential and significant effect on the decrease in the number of the EPG.

Kata kunci: anthelmintik, Ascaridia galli, ekstrak kunyit, in vitro, mortalitasABSTRACTAscaridia galli worm was chicken parasite that inflicted significant economic loss for breeders. The study aimed at finding out the effect of the application of turmeric (Curcuma domestica) extract on the mortality of the A. galli in vitro. The A. galli were obtained from chicken slaughtering house in Dukun subdistrict of Magelang district and classified into 3 groups for in vitro study. Each of the groups consisted of 9 A. galli worms with 3 repetitions. Group I was treated using turmeric, Group II was negative control (Aquadestilata) and Group III was positive control with Piperazin Citrate-Phenothiazine treatment. The mortality of the worms was recorded every 15 minutes until it reached 100%. The results were then analyzed using Anova. The results of the in vitro test showed that the Aquadestilata gave mean mortality of 47.77 minutes/chicken, the Piperazin Citrate-Phenothiazine solution gave mean mortality of 24.44 minutes/chicken, and the turmeric extract gave mean mortality of 31.66 minutes/chicken. The application of the turmeric extract had significant effect on the mortality of the A. galli worm and had anthelmintic potential. Keywords: anthelmintic, Ascaridia galli, turmeric extract, in vitro, mortality.
