    Abstract: A photoelectrochromic device (PECD) is a combination of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) and an electrochromic device (ECD) that directly generates transmittance contrast from solar radiation without an additional power source. In terms of application, PECDs have recently been utilized as self-powered smart windows for eco-friendly green buildings. The majority of PECDs have exceptional optical performance in the visible light region, with their electrochromic property regulating the indoor luminance. Nonetheless, indoor temperature regulation is also a potential opportunity that might be examined further for PECDs. As the temperature is highly correlated with the incident flux of infrared light, this study presents a near-infrared photoelectrochromic device (NIR-PECD) with WO 3 as the electrochromic material for blocking infrared radiation, realizing indoor thermal management without external power. The NIR-PECD exhibited the ability of thermal modulation and lowered the indoor temperature with a transmittance contrast in the NIR region, demonstrating a transmittance contrast (Δ T ) of 40.2% and an outstanding photocoloration efficiency (PhCE) of 55.85 cm 2 min −1 W −1 at the wavelength of 1000 nm. In addition, the NIR-PECD also displayed a 5.6 °C temperature difference between the colored and bleached states, indicating the thermal management capabilities of keeping the interior cool in the colored state by blocking the NIR. As a further application, NIR-PECDs can be used as self-powered smart windows in green buildings to achieve internal temperature control without external power.

    Abstract: Foreign bodies in the kidney have rarely been reported. However, they can be a clinical problem for urologists. We report on a patient with a residual segment of guidewire coating embedded in the renal parenchyma following computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous nephrostomy drainage (PCND), and our successful minimally invasive management with retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS). Case presentation A 40-year-old female with urosepsis due to a right upper ureteral stone with hydronephrosis received emergent CT-guided PCND and subsequent ureteroscopic lithotripsy, double J stent insertion, and percutaneous catheter removal. Follow-up radiography showed a coiled object within the upper pole parenchyma of the right kidney, which might be the remnant of a guidewire used during the PCND procedure. Flexible ureteroscopy (fURS) was performed. Under fluoroscopy, the foreign body was localized, the renal parenchyma was incised with laser, and the foreign body was retrieved using a stone basket. Conclusion Although guidewire breakage is uncommon, clinicians should keep it in mind during interventional procedures. Several methods can be used to eradicate foreign objects from the urinary tract, and the first choice should always be the least invasive one. RIRS with fURS is considered as a safe, efficient, and minimally invasive option for the extraction of foreign bodies from the kidney. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive case report detailing the removal of a foreign object by RIRS in the English literature.

    Abstract: In this study, zinc oxide (ZnO) films were deposited on sapphire substrates using a plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition system. Prior to deposition, the substrates were treated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in order to increase nucleation on the initial sapphire surface and, thus, enhance the quality of deposited ZnO films. Furthermore, x-ray diffraction spectroscopy measurements indicated that the crystallinity of ZnO films was considerably enhanced by H2O2 pretreatment, with the strongest (002) diffraction peak occurring for the film pretreated with H2O2 for 60 min. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy also was used, and the results indicated that a high number of Zn–O bonds was generated in ZnO films pretreated appropriately with H2O2. The ZnO film deposited on a sapphire substrate with H2O2 pretreatment for 60 min was applied to metal–semiconductor–metal ultraviolet photodetectors (MSM-UPDs) as an active layer. The fabricated ZnO MSM-UPDs showed improvements in dark current and ultraviolet–visible rejection ratios (0.27 μA and 1.06 × 103, respectively) compared to traditional devices.

    Abstract: The current study aimed to compare the efficacy of transition zone PSA density (TZPSAD) with traditional PSA and PSA density (PSAD), for the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa) in Taiwanese males. Methods Men with PSA between 4.0 and 20.0 ng/ml who underwent a transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided prostate biopsy between the studied period were retrospectively identified. The demographic data, PSAD and TZPSAD were calculated in all patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to analyze the accuracy of a positive PCa diagnosis. Results The area under the ROC (AUC) was 0.615, 0.748 and 0.746 for PSA, PSAD and TZPSAD, respectively. The best cut-off of value for TZPSAD in predicting PCa in men with a PSA of 4.0–10.0 ng/ml was 0.367 ng/ml/ml with a sensitivity of 50% and a specificity of 77.5%. In men with a PSA of 10.1–20.0 ng/ml, the best cut-off value was 0.454 ng/ml, with a sensitivity of 74.8% and specificity of 70.9%. Conclusion The use of TZPSAD can improve the efficiency and specificity of PSA for the diagnosis of PCa in Taiwanese men with PSA 4.0–20.0 ng/ml. TZPSAD efficiency was similar to PSAD but TZPSAD had better cancer specificity.

    Abstract: This study used Six Sigma DMAIC five-phase improvement procedures for an empirical research on a multinational optical interconnect manufacturer. The Taguchi method was used for the design of experiment, and the data obtained from the orthogonal table were used to determine the key factors and levels, in order to propose the optimal combination of processing parameters and levels for fiber patch cord 3D polishing. The combination of rough polishing time of 30s, polishing pressure of 0.02pa, polishing pad hardness of 65 degrees, and the fine polishing time of 80s could produce the fittest parameters for a satisfactory level, reduce the defect rate and waste of production cost, and reach the Six Sigma standard. The results proved that the improved process capability model, as constructed by this study, can effectively improve the apex offset quality of fiber patch cords. The findings can serve as references for engineers to improve the quality and production process capability.

    Abstract: In this study, we aimed to compare the efficacy and clinical outcomes of shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) for patients with renal stones using pure fluoroscopy (FS) or ultrasound-assisted (USa) localization with two lithotripters. Methods We retrospectively identified 425 patients with renal calculi who underwent SWL with either a LiteMed LM-9200 ELMA lithotripter (209 cases), which combined ultrasound and fluoroscopic stone targeting or a Medispec EM-1000 lithotripter machine (216 cases), which used fluoroscopy for stone localization and tracking. The patient demographic data, stone-free rates, stone disintegration rates, retreatment rates and complication rates were analyzed. Results The USa group had a significantly higher overall stone-free rate (43.6 vs. 28.2%, p  〈  0.001) and stone disintegration rate (85.6 vs. 64.3%, p  〈  0.001), as well as a significantly lower retreatment rate (14.8 vs. 35.6%, p  〈  0.001) and complication rate (1.9 vs. 5.5%, p = 0.031) compared with the FS group. This superiority remained significant in the stone size  〈  1 cm stratified group. In the stone size  〉  1 cm group, the stone-free rate (32.4 vs. 17.8%, p = 0.028), disintegration rate (89.2 vs. 54.8%, p = 0.031) and retreatment rate (21.6 vs. 53.4%, p  〈  0.001) were still significantly better in the USa group, however there was no significant difference in the complication rate. The most common complication was post-SWL-related flank pain. Conclusion SWL is a safe and non-invasive way of treating renal stones. This study compared two electromagnetic shock wave machines with different stone tracking systems. LiteMed LM-9200 ELMA lithotripter, which combined ultrasound and fluoroscopic stone targeting outperformed Medispec EM-1000 lithotripter, which used fluoroscopy for stone localization and tracking, with better stone-free rates and disintegration rates, as well as lower retreatment rates and complications with possible reduced radiation exposure.

    Abstract: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare soft tissue tumor originally reported in the pleura. Although it has been reported in various extra-pleural sites, the occurrence of SFT in the scrotum is extremely rare. Herein, we present a 48-year-old man who had scrotal SFT. There are very few reported cases of genitourinary SFTs, this is only the fifth report of SFT of the scrotum in the English medical literature. Case presentation In this study, we report on a 48-year-old man who presented with a 5 × 8 cm scrotal mass between his testes. Physical examination revealed a 4.7 × 8.5 cm lobulated tumor mass located between his testicles. Surgical excision of the tumor with scrotal approach was done and pathology reported a SFT. The patient was alive without tumor recurrence or distant metastasis during ongoing follow-up for 9 months post-operatively.. Conclusion Scrotal SFTs are very rare and only five cases have been reported in English literature to date. Treatment often involves surgical resection, and a definite diagnosis is made with the help of immunohistochemistry. The current general consensus for the management of SFTs is long-term follow-up after surgical excision of the tumor.
