    Abstract: The aim of the present work is to achieve the controlled synthesis of Ti and Mg thin films, with compact structure and extremely smooth surface, by using the Thermionic Vacuum Arc (TVA) technology, from elemental powder of titanium and magnesium. The thin film exhibits an amorphous structure, with polycrystalline grain mainly being Mg hexagonal phase and small amount of hexagonal Ti. Grain mean size was estimated to be ~120nm by statistical analysis of measured Feret diameter of projected area of grain. The phases were tested by mean of Cohen method applied to electron diffraction results. No oxide (MgO, TiO2,) lines could be identified from electron diffraction. Debye-Scherrer dimension, estimated from electron diffraction profile is ~4 nm. The analysis of amorphous part from diffraction profile show different coordination number for Mg and Ti atoms.

    Abstract: This manuscript considers the operational flammability limits of commercial fuels used in the automotive and in the aviation industry. Commonly employed fuels are considered in this study. Understanding the flammability limits is an important aspect while choosing right fuel for a given application. An explosion of stored fuel or combustion system can be catastrophic and can create a serious impact to the society. Therefore, researchers while developing fuels and combustion systems must give considerable attention. This manuscript reviews the effect of vapour pressure and temperature on flammability of fuels and reviews the auto ignition and flash point temperature of fuels commonly seen in the automotive and in the aviation industry.

    Abstract: With the continuous popularization of automation in the manufacturing industry and continuous improvement of production efficiency, new requirements have been put forward for the error detection of machine tool. As a new automated detection tool, R-test has been widely studied by scholars. This paper proposes a dynamic test method for R-test, and analyses the influence of three main error sources of servo error, pitch error and reading error. The corresponding elimination methods are also introduced. An experiment on a double turntable machine tool was conducted to verify the analysis. In addition, the selection of feed rate and initial position in circle test is also studied.

    Abstract: Structural failures in a Chinese sport utility vehicle (SUV) Land-wind X6 chassis were reported in recent years, thus, it is meaningful to conduct trouble-shooting and effective optimization to improve the chassis. Stress relaxation of the Land-wind X6 chassis using a novel dynamic force counteracting approach was carried out in this study. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model of the chassis was firstly established and theoretical modal analysis was performed using the FEA model, experimental modal analysis was followed to validate the theoretical modal analysis and the FEA model. Further static and local stress analyses demonstrate that irrational designs between the longitudinal beams and the suspension components lead to inadequate stiffness and excessive stress concentrations which would cause fatigue and structural failure when the SUV chassis is subject to complex and severe excitations. A novel dynamic forces counteracting approach was introduced to optimize the chassis structure, FEA results show that excessive stress concentrations were obviously eliminated and the chassis stiffness, especially the torsional stiffness was greatly improved after optimization, followed industrial implementation also verifies that the FEA-based study and product optimization performed in this work are successful and significant.

    Abstract: The objective of this research aims to improve surface roughness of the hardened 145Cr6 (DIN) steel using the hydrostatic burnishing tool. The ball burnishing process with hydrostatic tools is very economical finishing process for various types of machine parts. This process reduces the height of surface unevenness, introduces compressive stresses at high depth (approx. 1 mm) and increase the hardness of the surface layer. The flat surface optimal ball burnishing parameters have been determined after conducting the Taguchi L9 matrix experiment. The input parameters are speed, burnishing force and burnishing width. It also showed a positive effect of hydrostatics burnishing on roughness and geometric structure of the surface. In most cases, the result is anisotropic surface, reduced roughness, reduced amplitude values of parameters such as: Sa, Sz.

    Abstract: This paper used a new transient computational fluid dynamics and fluid–structure interaction method to investigate the journal bearing performance with the effect of thermal and cavitation, to reveal the performance of journal bearing in different lubricants and to provide substitution references for bearings in different lubricants. Considering thermal effect, elastic deformation and cavitation, a detailed discussion was conducted to show the performance of plain journal bearings lubricated by water, seawater, and lubricating oil by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and fluid structure interaction (FSI) method. And the results in this work are compared with the published results. The variation of dimensionless load carrying capacity, maximum film pressure and temperature with eccentricity ratio are presented, which can provide reference for the design of bearings. Furthermore, a diagram is presented for journal bearings with different diameter, length-diameter ratio and lubricants, which can be used as a reference for the equivalent substitutions of bearings. The present research provides references as to the design of bearings and the substitutions of bearings by different lubricants.
