Abstract:
Purpose: The aim of the study was to examine and compare the factors that constrain participation in leisure time physical
activities among university students according to gender and regular physical activity habits. Methods: Of the participants sociodemographic and physical characteristics, regular physical activity habit and factors that
constrain their participation in leisure time physical activities with Leisure Time Physical Activity Constraints Scale were questioned with the form prepared in Google Forms.
Results: The data of 362 (268 females/94 males) participants who volunteered to participate in the study and filled the form completely were analyzed. In the analysis made according to the gender variable, it was found that the first constraining factor
for women was society, while income for men and time (p & lt;0.05), skill perception (p & lt;0.05), society (p & lt;0.05), and willpower
(p & lt;0.001) were more constraining factors for women. In the analysis made according to the regular physical activity habit
variable, it was determined that society was the first constraining factors in the participants with and without regular physical activity habit and body perception (p & lt;0.05), income (p & lt;0.05), time (p & lt;0.001), skill perception (p & lt;0.001), society (p & lt;0.001),
facilities (p & lt;0.001), and willpower (p & lt;0.001) were more constraining factors or in the participants without regular physical
activity habit. It was found that women compared to men (p & lt;0.05) and those without regular physical activity habits compared
to others (p & lt;0.001) faced more with constraining factors.
Conclusion: It was observed that women compared to men and those who did not do regular physical activity compared to those who accepted more factors as physical activity constraints. It is considered that there is a need for studies to be carried out
within the university to transform physical activity constraints, especially the social environment, into motivating factors.
