Abstract: A medical device is defined as “any an instrument, apparatus, implement, machine, contrivance, implant, in vitro reagent” and “intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions, or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, in man or other animals”. Objective: The objective of this systematic review was to outline the steps and necessary requirements needed for approval and legislation of new medical devices. Methods:  Two databases; PubMed and Google Scholar were electronically searched for articles published from year 2011 to 2021. The following MeSH (Medical Subjects Headings) terms; “new medical devices”, “Regulatory Bodies”, “Approval Medical Devices”, “Pre-market Post-market Approval” along with Boolean operators AND, OR and NOT were used to search for the articles. Results: It is evident from our study that risks associated with new medical and dental devices are being taken seriously by the governments of different countries and intensive work is done to minimize the risks and maximize the benefits of them. Conclusions: It is safe to say that we are entering a new era of safe medical practice along with new and better devices being available for the public. The reforms being made will help not only the hospitals and patients but will also assist the manufacturers in understanding the mechanisms involved in clearing their products for the approval. It will lead to advancement and reshaping healthcare system to combat many challenges faced by it and promote and protect the public health.

Abstract: Simultaneous impacts of homogeneous and heterogeneous reaction and Joule heating in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) peristaltic flow of viscous fluid in a symmetric channel are analyzed in this investigation. Attention has been focused on designing and simulating a mathematical model for a viscous fluid in presence of viscous dissipation. Long wavelength approximation in wave frame analysis is implemented. Expressions for the stream function, axial pressure gradient, temperature, heat transfer coefficient and concentration are derived and discussed. In addition, the trapping phenomenon is analyzed. The effects of the physical quantities of concern are viewed with a special focus on homogeneous and heterogeneous reaction and convective conditions for the transfer of heat at the walls. It is observed that the pressure rise first increases and then decreases with an increase in amplitude ratio. Effects of Brinkman and Hartmann numbers on temperature are quite analogous and a temperature rise is observed, however, temperature decays for the increased value of Biot number. Moreover, fluid concentration decreases when the value of the homogeneous reaction parameter is increased.

Abstract: In the list of abiotic stresses, salt stress is a main growth retarding factor which affects 7% of rain-fed while 30% worldwide irrigated agriculture. However, various strategies are assumed to manage this problem, but the use of endophytes is cheap and eco-friendly. The goal of this study was to evaluate the behavior of endophytic Aspergillus awamori (EWF) in creating salt tolerance in mung bean in terms of its seedling growth, biochemical indices, antioxidant enzymes, endogenous IAA, and ionic status of the plant. Results The results revealed that the 150 mM of NaCl reduced seedling growth (seedlings’ weight and length; leaves number), chlorophyll contents, and IAA. On the other hand, proline, polyphenols, flavonoids, tannin, lipid peroxidation, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase were increased. Inoculation of EWF had promoted the mung bean growth under all tested conditions. EWF enhanced the biomass and IAA contents of the mung bean plants under salt stress. Moreover, EWF-associated mung bean seedlings exhibited low accumulation of stress markers, and Cl, Na, Na/K, and Ca/K ratio, whereas higher concentrations of Ca, Mg, K, N, and P in mung bean seedlings. Conclusion The results provided a sustainable approach in using endophytic EWF under salt stress, thus concluded that this fungus can be very handy in mung bean as well as other important crop production in saline areas.

Abstract: BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: One of the most common challenging complications after nasal surgeries is maintaining airways. The study aimed to use an alternative technique instead of nasal packing in the immediate postoperative period undergoing different nasal surgery under general anesthesia regarding airway management. METHODOLOGY: An interventional study was conducted at Aziz Fatimah Trust Hospital, Faisalabad, from  March 20, 2018, to January 31, 2019. A total of 100 participants were enrolled in the study divided into two groups (A & B), 50 each. Group A patients were treated postoperatively with a modified nasal airway devised with a Nelton catheter and Group B patients with traditional nasal packing. The participants were assessed on different parameters which were statistically compared and analyzed. RESULTS: Group Descriptive statistics revealed that the Mean±SD of the age of group A and group B patients was 24.28±9.72 and 26.68±11.09 respectively, which had no significant difference between them {p-value (0.008)}. The postoperative parameters such as patient's comfort and sleep, surgeon satisfaction, ease of suction through Nelton catheter, and oxygen saturation were evaluated as significant variables in the evaluation of the study. p-value ≤0.05 and ≤0.005 were considered as significant and highly significant respectively. CONCLUSION: This modified nasal airway has proven to be easily replicable and reliable, and a cost-effective measure elucidated as a potential and exclusive outcome of the present study.
