Kurzfassung: The most important substance causing addiction towards cigarette is nicotine. Nicotine abstinence causes withdrawal symptoms in smokers. It is not just nicotine, along with it is the upregulation of nicotinic receptor density (NRD) that leads to addiction. All together makes nicotine deaddiction the most difficult aspect. Nicotine receptor density increases as long as the person is exposed to nicotine. When once the NRD is initiated by nicotine, later though you stop smoking, the increased nicotine receptors create an urge to smoke. Hence the person feels to smoke for satisfying the nicotine receptors. The smokers may attempt to quit smoking but the NRD will create an urge for nicotine again. One cannot completely quit smoking or cannot stop taking nicotine, until the NRD is reduced to normal. In our present study we have studied the effect of citric acid and tyrosine on decreasing nicotinic receptor density. We have induced the nicotinic receptor density to raise and studied the citric acid and tyrosine’s effect in maintaining the NRD closer to normal. The study concludes that citric acid and tyrosine have reduced the NRD significantly. This can control withdrawal symptoms and can stop craving for nicotine and finally can lead to cessation of smoking and from taking nicotine therapy.

Kurzfassung: Nicotine deaddiction is not an easy job because regular exposure to nicotine leads to the development of neuroadaptation, neuroadaptation increases the number of binding sites on the nicotinic cholinergic receptors in the brain, this may be due to nicotine-mediated desensitization of receptors. Therefore the present study evaluate the commonly available substances like CA (Citric acid) and TY (Tyrosine) that can bring down the nicotine levels and maintain the dopamine levels without altering the nicotine intake. Thirty six animals were divided into 6 groups (n=6). Group-1 rats served as control and received only food and water while group (2) animals received only nicotine (600 μg/kg bw) by subcutaneous route for 21 consecutive days. Group (3-4) received both nicotine with CA 100 mg/kg bw oral and nicotine with CA 200mg/kg bw oral respectively for 21 days. Similarly group (5-6) received both nicotine with TY 100 mg/kg bw oral and nicotine with TY 200mg/kg bw oral respectively for 21 days. From 22nd day, animals in groups 3 to 6 alone received respectively CA (100 and 200 mg/kg bw; oral) and TY (100 and 200 mg/kg bw; oral) for another 5 days. On day 26, the animals in all groups were sacrificed and the blood was collected. From the serum, the levels of nicotine and dopamine were estimated. It was observed that the nicotine level was significantly less in CA 100 mg and TY 200 mg doses. There was a significant increase in dopamine level in the nicotine treated group-2 when compared to normal control group-1. The same showed a slight decrease in CA and TY treated groups as compared to nicotine-treated group-2. Hence it is concluded that CA and TY have the ability to reduce the effect of nicotine levels and maintain the dopamine levels that can sustain the level of nicotine. This possibly can control the withdrawal symptoms of nicotine addiction and curtail craving for nicotine in the long run and most probably might lead to the cessation of smoking or tobacco consumption.

Kurzfassung: Management of sleep and autonomic parameters are prime importance in diabetic patients. The present study was undertaken to observe the effectiveness of 8 weeks of vestibular exercise on sleep and autonomic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes. A total of 30 participants were recruited for the study. After recruiting, the participants were randomly assigned to the control and intervention groups with a 1:1 distribution. The vestibular exercises comprise three sets of exercises of 45 minutes duration each session. Four sessions per week were administered to the participants. The exercises were standardized by earlier researchers. The same was adopted in the present study. There was a significant decrease in the ISI scores and decrease in the systolic, diastolic and pulse rate in the participants. The present study results show that practicing vestibular exercises along with the prescribed treatment helps to improve sleep and regulate autonomic functions. The study recommends long-term studies with a higher sample size for a better understanding of the vestibular exercises and also recommends adopting these exercises in the treatment protocol.

Kurzfassung: Pathogenecity of the well characterized entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae used for biocontrol of a wide range of insect pests secretes hydrolytic enzymes that degrade the host cuticle. The chitinolytic activity of high and low virulent isolates of M. anisopliae was assayed on minimal medium (MM) + colloidal chitin and MM supplemented with insect cuticles. Ex‐ pression pattern of four chitinase genes ( chitinase ( chi ) , chi 1, chi 2, chi 3 ) was profiled during pathogenic stages of the entomopathogen under in vitro and in vivo conditions. Reverse‐transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT‐PCR) analysis confirmed that chitinase cDNAs were expressed during the germination of fungus under nutrient‐deprived conditions. RT‐PCR analysis performed for the four chitinase genes on the two insect hosts Spodoptera litura and Helicoverpa armigera at six developmental stages of the pathogen displayed up‐regulation in S. litura at mycosed and conidiated condition while with H. armigera there was expression only after 48 h of incubation. Differential expression of chi, chi 1 and chi 2 genes in vitro (nitrogen rich and nitrogen limiting media) and in vivo (live insect hosts S. litura and H. armigera ) implicate the role of substrate differences in pathogenesis. Kurzfassung: Palm Vein Recognition is one among the biometric authentication methods. It works by recognizing the unique patterns of veins in the palms of the people. In palm vein recognition, the near-infrared light is illuminated into the palm emitted by the palm scanner. This near-infrared light is absorbed by the deoxygenated blood flowing through the veins which reduces its ability to reflect back the light. This causes the veins to appear as black patterns and is captured as an image by the scanner. These images are processed using various algorithms and compared with the data in the database and authenticates the individuals.
