Abstract:
O médio curso do Rio Araguaia apresenta formas de relevo móveis e instáveis no interior do canal e da planície aluvial, resultantes da carga arenosa excessiva e dos respectivos ambientes sedimentares. Este artigo apresenta uma classificação dos ambientes sedimentares do Rio Araguaia, por meio da associação de fáceis sedimentares dos depósitos contidos na planície aluvial, analisados a partir de perfis sedimentológicos das margens do canal, amostras de perfurações e testemunhos indeformados. Foram identificados cinco subambientes sedimentares associados ao canal principal (canal principal, canais secundários, barras laterais, bancos centrais e ilhas e diques marginais) e dois subambientes associados a planície aluvial (planície ocasionalmente inundável e pântanos). Os resultados demonstram a resposta do sistema fluvial diante dos cenários de aceleradas alterações registradas nas bacias do alto e médio curso do rio Araguaia.
