    Abstract: The medicinal plant Atmora (Helicteres isora Linn.) is used to treat a variety of illnesses. The fruit of this plant is commonly referred to as Marodphali, Enthani, because of its screw-like appearance. Atmora is a traditional medicine used to treat new-born constipation, diarrhea, and snake bites. H. isora grows to a height of five to eight meters as a small tree or large shrub. Its ovate, hairy leaves with serrated margins are arranged alternately, and its bark is grey. Its fruits are green when raw, brown or grey when dried, and twisted, with a screw at the tip. Its flowers are brick red or orange-red. Antioxidants, carbohydrates, proteins, fiber, calcium, phosphorus, and iron are all rich in H. isora. This study aims to describe about botanical characteristics, uses, ethno-medicinal properties and therapeutic importance of it.

    Abstract: Objective: The main objectives of the study are preliminary phytochemical screening, antioxidant activity and in vitro thrombolytic activity evaluation of extract Phlogacanthus thyrsiflorus. Methods: Preliminary phytochemical analysis was done by using standard methods. Human blood clot lysis was used to evaluate the thrombolytic activities. The antioxidant activity is evaluated by free radical scavenging activity of DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method and total phenolic content. Results: Preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of various bioactive components like Tannin, Saponins, Phenol and Flavonoids. In thrombolytic assay, a significant clot lysis was observed plant extract compared to the negative control. The plant could be beneficial in synthetic drug formulation by virtue of the presence of antioxidant activity. The crude extract of plant were found to have Antioxidant activity with the concentration of 20 µg/ml, 40 µg/ml, 60 µg/ml, 80 µg/ml, 100 µg/ml respectively compared to control and standard. In DPPH scavenging assay, IC50 values of extract and ascorbic acid were found to be 31.87 µg/ml and 52.04 µg/ml respectively. Total phenol content was 10.5 mg. Conclusion: In conclusion, with this study it could be concluded that the phytochemical, antioxidant assay and thrombolytic activity of methanol extract Phlogacanthus thyrsiflorus would give valuable information for further characterization and exploitation of this important medicinal plant.

    Abstract: Arsenic is a major toxicant impairing in diverse metabolic alterations of the organisms and the mechanism of adaptive response is yet to be identified. In the present study, effects of different doses of arsenic in liver of Channa punctata on the regulation of metabolic activities were done. C. punctata, a variety of fresh water fish were exposed to 1, 10 and 1000 ?M concentration of Na2HAsO4 for 1 h. The amount of protein, in response to 1, 10 and 1000 ?M concentration of arsenic were augmented by 184.47% (2.84-folds), 202.82% (3.0- folds) and 317.49% (4.17-folds), respectively and was found to be higher for 1000 ?M dose. Cholesterol contents in liver were similarly exaggerated by 517.45% (6.17-folds), 308.13% (4.1-folds) and 286.41% (3.86-folds), respectively. However, the higher response was found for 1 ?M dose of Na2HAsO4. Similar stimulatory effects on triglyceride level were observed in response to arsenic. Na2HAsO4 causes 443.74% (5.43-folds), 533.11% (6.33-folds) and 548.48% (6.48-folds) enhanced triglyceride level in liver respectively and the effects were pronounced for 1000 ?M concentration. Our findings conclude that arsenic is involved in impairment of metabolic activities in liver of the species of fish and gives an impact to the environment for survival.Int. J. Agril. Res.     Abstract: Objective: Various diseases are caused by different pathogenic microorganisms. Antibiotics are being used for treatment of these infectious diseases, yet unpredictable utilization of it leads towards antibacterial resistance. It is required to discover better approaches to battle against antibacterial resistance. Therefore, the study aimed to detect antibacterial sensitivity of ethanol extracts of Curcuma longa (turmeric), Cinnamomumzeylanicum (clove) and Syzygiumaromaticum (cinnamon) against Syaphylococcus aureus and E coli. Methods: Prior to sensitivity testing, ethanol oils were extracted by an electric blender and each of the bacteria strains were cultured onto blood agar plate. Antibacterial activity was tested by agar well diffusion method where three different concentrations (50 μl, 75 μl and 100 μl) of selected plants extract were used so far as to measure the inhibition zone. Inhibition zone of the ethanol extract of these plants were calculated where three were found to be sensitive against Syaphylococcus aureus and E coli. Results: Greater inhibition zone 14.5 mm, 18.25 mm, 21.5 mm at100 μl against Syaphylococcus aureus in case of cinnamon whereas the least inhibition zone was showed by turmeric and it was 9.00 mm, 11.00 mm, and 12.75 mm at 100 μl extract against E. coli. Conclusion: Overall, all the ethanol extracts were found to effective against these two bacteria but cinnamon can be used as more effective antibacterial agent in both human and veterinary field after the toxicological test.

    Abstract: Introduction: Brucellosis is a recognized public health problem and one of the major causes of morbidity both in humans and animals. It causes abortion and infertility in women and livestock as well. Objective: The research was carried out to know the prevalence and to identify the risk factors of brucellosis in humans and cattle in study areas in Bangladesh. Materials and Methods: The study areas were all Upazilas of Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Rangpur, Kurigram, Bagerhat and Gaibandha district and the Government owned Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm (CCBDF) in Savar, Dhaka for cattle and human samples were collected from Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. A total livestock samples collected were 1043 and human samples were 460. Besides doing all the tests in Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital laboratory Bangladesh, it was done also in Office International des Epizooties (OIE) world reference Laboratory in Jena, Germany. Results: Out of 1043, 28 milk samples (2.68 %) and 23 serum samples (2.21 %) were positive by MRT and RBT respectively. The highest prevalence was 3.05% in the Holstein Friesian cross using MRT, while 2.49% in the Holstein Friesian cows using RBT. Age-wise prevalence of brucellosis by MRT and RBT were 2.06% and 1.23% respectively in 1-4 years age group. On the other hand prevalence of brucellosis based on MRT and RBT were significantly higher (2.88% and 2.50%) in 〉 5 years age group (p≤0.01) than those of other age groups. Based on parity, significantly higher prevalence 3.07% and 2.58% of MRT and RBT were obtained respectively in parity 3-5 in comparison to other parity group (p≤0.01).In case of human brucellosis 460 blood samples were tested with RBT, SAT, CFT, iELISA, conventional PCR and real time PCR but were negative in all tests. In case of livestock and human brucellosis bacteria were cultured in OIE Reference Laboratory, Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, but bacteria were not isolated. Conclusion: The prevalence of brucellosis is asserted in human and cattle in this study although MRT is 1st-line screening tests for brucellosis.     Abstract: Customers prefer tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), one of the most popular freshwater fish species farmed in Bangladesh, because of its flavor and affordable market pricing. This study aimed to develop value-added tilapia fish sticks and evaluate the quality changes, shelf life, and storage stability of the developed tilapia fish sticks in order to investigate the possibilities of better utilizing low-value tilapia fish and to satisfy consumers' growing demand for quality ready-to-eat food products. For this regard, storage characteristics in room (28ºC) and refrigerator (5ºC) temperatures were assessed in terms of microbiological, chemical, proximate, and sensory attributes. The moisture, lipid, protein, and ash contents of the fish sticks were observed to be 56.23±0.62, 7.62±0.27, 26.01±0.39, and 2.93±0.23%, respectively, at fresh condition. As storage time increased, it was discovered that ash content at room temperature increased while moisture, lipid, and protein levels steadily declined. On the other hand, it was discovered that at refrigeration temperatures, ash and fat content increased while moisture and protein content decreased. Compared to fish sticks held at ambient temperature, changes in the proximate composition of fish sticks stored in a refrigerator were found to be more stable. TVB-N was initially measured as 12.38±0.45 mg/100 g. After 24 hours of room storage, the TVB-N value exceeded the acceptable level; however, after 72 hours of refrigeration, it did not exceed the acceptable limit and was deemed fit for consumption. TPC was observed in fresh fish sticks as 3.74±0.31 Log CFU/g. In 48 hours at room temperature, the bacterial load of tilapia fish sticks increased sharply (p 〈 0.05) during the course of the storage period and went above the microbiological threshold for fishery products (7 Log CFU/g of flesh). The bacterial growth trend was slower and, after 72 hours, was within the permitted limit at refrigerated storage temperature. All fresh products had the highest initial sensory ratings. At ambient temperature, all of the products sensory qualities significantly declined with time (p 〈 0.05), however at refrigeration temperature, the product was determined to be more stable. The overall acceptability score assessed for appearance, flavor, taste, and texture was within acceptable limits for up to 24 hours at room temperature, but not for 72 hours at refrigeration temperature. According to the study's findings, tilapia fish sticks have a very limited shelf life at room temperature (28°C), only lasting around 24 hours, whereas they can last up to 72 hours at 5°C in the refrigerator.

    Abstract: Objectives: The purpose of this research was to look into the impacts after the implication of feeding broiler chickens with spirulina in arsenic-incited toxicities. Materials and Methods: Birds (n = 125) were distributed equally (n = 25) into four groups treated (T1, T2, T3, T4) and a group controlled, T0 (normal feed and water without supplement), the group taking in arsenic trioxide (100 mg/l)-induced diet (T1), and the groups T2, T3, and T4 (feed supplemented with 50, 100, and 200 mg/l of spirulina along with Arsenic Trioxide, respectively). The body weight and hematobiochemical parameters were recorded every 7 days. Results: Different growth development indicators, e.g., body weight, feed intake ratio, feed conversion ratio, depression, and skin lesions, were weak in arsenic trioxide groups and upstanding in the arsenic plus spirulina group. Over and above, the lack of body weight gain in chicken (2.7%–13.00%) in the arsenic-introduced groups given spirulina (T2, T3, and T4) overtook the mere groups exposed to arsenic, where the lack of weight gain was optimum (54.90%). Thereafter, in arsenic-instituted groups given spirulina (T2, T3, and T4), the drop in total erythrocyte count, total leukocyte count, hemoglobin, and packed cell volume values became less notable than in arsenic pollutant groups (T1, p 〈 0.01). Two measurable factors (serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase and serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase) were substantially (p 〈 0.01) raised in the group (T1) treated with arsenic, but in the arsenic-induced groups (T2, T3, and T4) treated with spirulina, they were elevated less. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that arsenic is a threat to poultry. However, spirulina may be advantageous for alleviating the effects of arsenic in poultry.

    Abstract: This study was designed to determine the interrelationship between physico-chemical parameters and plankton community in three different aquaculture systems (wishpond, wishpond aquaponics and traditional fish pond). The water quality parameters, dissolve oxygen (DO), temperature, pH, ammonia, alkalinity and transparency were monitored and found within the recommended range. Different phytoplankton of four (4) different groups were observed where Chlorophyceae group was the most dominant (8.03±0.19) × 103 cells/l in wishpond system and Euglenophyceae was the less dominant (45.86±1.15) × 103 cells/l in traditional pond system. In addition, Zooplankton of Rotifera was found the most dominant (17.81±0.09) × 103 cells/l with following Cladocera and Copepoda. A significance difference were observed in case of plankton groups among three different aquaculture systems. The interrelationship among the physico-chemical parameters, temperature showed strongest relationship with all the other physico-chemical parameters where transparency showed no relation with dissolve oxygen. In case of phytoplankton groups, all four groups showed more or less positive relationship in all three different aquaculture system. The findings of this study will assist small-scale producers in choosing and properly operating a simple aquaponics system. Asian Australas. J. Biosci. Biotechnol. 2022, 7 (1), 13-22

    Abstract: Backgound: The number of hypogonads is increasing day by day. It may be due to sedentary life style with increased obesity, increased tension or stressed lifestyle among all groups of populations. Visceral obesity is associated with insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus and also with hypogonadism. Objective: This study was carried out to determine the proportion of insulin resistance among male subjects with hypogonadism in different age groups along with status of erectile quality among diabetics and non diabetics. Materials and method: This cross sectional study among 161 adult male subjects aged ? 20 to ? 60 years were purposively selected from Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM), Dhaka, Bangladesh between May 2009 to September 2010. Glycemic status and insulin resistance (by HOMA-R) were done and relevant history were documented. Results: The highest proportion (38.9%) of hypogonadism was in ? 50 years age group whereas highest proportion (39.6%) of the eugonads was in the age group of 40 to 49 years. More than half of the hypogonad subjects had weak erectile quality (54.0%) which were followed by absent erectile quality in 32.7% and 13.3% subjects had normal erectile quality. Among the eugonad subjects 41.7% had normal erectile quality, 41.6% subjects had weak erectile quality and 16.7% subjects had no erectile quality. More than ninety percent of the hypogonad subjects and about 60% of the eugonad subjects had insulin resistance. The average HOMA-R was more in the subjects with hypogonadism with diabetes which was highly significant (p-value 〈 0.001).
