Abstract: The utilization of endoscope-assisted surgery is becoming a more common modality for the surgical treatment of subdural collections. Considering the inflexible construction of the rigid endoscope, it's not clear where to perform the optimal craniotomy. Twenty four craniotomies (3 cm diameter) were performed in 8 hemicrania. The craniotomies were placed 1 cm front and behind the coronal suture and to the point where the parietal bone was the most convex. The craniotomies in the anterior (C1) and posterior (C2) of the coronal suture were in the mid pupillary line, while the posterior craniotomy (C3) was just lateral to the midpupillary line. At first, subdural distances measured, and then the distances from the craniotomy to the anterior, posterior, medial, and lateral directions in which endoscope could reach the farthest without the damage to the parenchyma were measured. The subdural distance was significantly deeper in C3 than C1 ( P  = 0.001); however, there was no difference between C3 and C2 ( P  = 0.312). The distance that could be reached with C3 was higher than C1 in anterior, posterior, lateral, and medial directions ( P ≤0.001, 0.037, 〈 0.001, and 〈 0.001, respectively). The distance that could be reached with C3 was higher than C2 in anterior, posterior, lateral, and medial directions ( P 〈 0.001, 0.02, 0.01 and 〈 0.001, respectively). In subdural hematomas, especially that covers all surface of the hemisphere, the most suitable craniotomy is the posteriorly placed craniotomy to reach the most extended projection in anteroposterior line of the hematoma.

Abstract: Objective: The term big data refers to high volumes of data that are difficult to store, process, and analyze through traditional database technologies. This paper aims to discover the big data knowledge and awareness of Turkish neurosurgeons. Methods: An online survey link was sent to all members of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society (n=1707 neurosurgeons) by e-mail. The survey, which was available during September and October 2021, was filled by 211 specialists (12.4%) neurosurgeons. Participants were scored based on the questions asked in “Big Data” and the scores were compared with baseline characteristics. There was no statistically significant correlation between baseline characteristics (age, gender, the residency/current institution, academic title, the presence of a Ph.D. degree, and professional specialist period) and survey score. The survey scores of the participants who used a big data platform, wrote code, thought that the use of big data was beneficial, and wanted to learn more about this subject were statistically significantly higher. Conclusions: Obtaining information about big data seems to be related only to personal interests. Necessary arrangements should be made in the training programs of neurosurgeons on this topic, which is gaining in popularity and provides useful information for daily clinical practice.

Abstract: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) primarily affects adults and spares children, whereas very little is known about neonates. We tried to define the clinical characteristics, risk factors, laboratory, and imagining results of neonates with community-acquired COVID-19. Methods: This prospective multicentered cohort study included 24 neonatal intensive care units around Turkey, wherein outpatient neonates with COVID-19 were registered in an online national database. Full-term and premature neonates diagnosed with COVID-19 were included in the study, whether hospitalized or followed up as ambulatory patients. Neonates without severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) via reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction testing or whose mothers had been diagnosed with COVID-19 during pregnancy were excluded. Results: Thirty-seven symptomatic neonates were included. The most frequent findings were fever, hypoxemia, and cough (49%, 41%, 27%, respectively). Oxygen administration (41%) and noninvasive ventilation (16%) were frequently required; however, mechanical ventilation (3%) was rarely needed. Median hospitalization was 11 days (1–35 days). One patient with Down syndrome and congenital cardiovascular disorders died in the study period. C-reactive protein (CRP) and prothrombin time (PT) levels were found to be higher in patients who needed supplemental oxygen (0.9 [0.1–8.6] vs. 5.8 [0.3–69.2] p = 0.002, 11.9 [10.1–17.2] vs. 15.2 [11.7–18.0] p = 0.01, respectively) or who were severe/critical (1.0 [0.01–8.6] vs. 4.5 [0.1–69.2] p = 0.01, 11.7 [10.1–13.9] vs. 15.0 [11.7–18.0] p = 0.001, respectively). Conclusions: Symptomatic neonates with COVID-19 had high rates of respiratory support requirements. High CRP levels or a greater PT should alert the physician to more severe disease.

Abstract: The aim of the study is to determine the status of digital literacy in Turkish education. From this point of view, 5, 6, 7 and 8th grade Turkish textbooks; It has been examined in terms of whether to include the concepts of digital literacy or not. In the internet age, digital literacy is of great importance. It is important that digital literacy, which is of great importance, takes its place in language teaching. Examining the concept of literacy in every aspect, especially in Turkish education, has brought the concept of digital literacy to the fore. Thus, the place of digital literacy, which has become the center of study, in Turkish education has been examined in terms of textbooks. Among the qualitative research methods, the study was carried out with the document analysis technique. First of all, the literature was scanned and after collecting information on the subject, the textbooks to be examined were determined. In order to examine the textbooks in terms of digital literacy, the "Unit of Analysis Words Associated with Digital Literacy" list was created. While creating the list, studies in the field were used. Afterwards, the textbooks were examined. As a result of the study, 192 texts and 1094 activities in Turkish textbooks were examined. 65 texts out of 192 texts; Out of 1094 activities, 182 activities included concepts directly related to digital literacy. It seems that the activities are numerically low in terms of reflecting digital literacy and are weak in developing digital literacy skills in terms of content. Although there are concepts that can be associated with digital literacy among the texts and activities in the books, it has been seen that there are few texts that deal directly with the subject.

Abstract: No gold standard exists for grading tricuspid regurgitation ( TR ) severity. We developed a simple parameter, the right ventricular ( RV ) early inflow‐outflow ( RVEIO ) index, using the early diastolic filling velocity and RV outflow velocity integrated over the systolic ejection period. We hypothesized that this index would help identify severe TR in clinical practice. Methods We obtained data from routine transthoracic echocardiograms. All records reporting moderate (n=395) or severe (n=395) TR were reanalyzed to measure vena contracta ( VC ) width, TR jet area, effective regurgitant orifice ( EROA ) derived with the proximal isovelocity surface area method, RVEIO index, and right‐sided chamber volumes. Results Significant linear trends were demonstrated for right atrial volume index, end‐diastolic volume index, E‐wave velocity, RV velocity time integral, TR jet area, VC width, and EROA with increasing TR severity. Independent predictors of severe RT included RVEIO index ≥ 10, VC width ≥ 0.7 cm, TR jet area 〉 10 cm 2 , and EROA ≥ 0.4 cm 2 . Conclusion RVEIO index is a useful, simple, accurate, and independent predictor of severe TR that adds incrementally to traditional methods of quantifying TR severity. Accurate quantification and classification of TR severity is critical for clinical decision‐making and management; therefore, the incorporation of RVEIO index into the integrative approach to grading TR severity should be considered.

Abstract: Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) is a cardiothoracic thromboembolic emergency at risk of life‐threatening. Several risk graduation algorithms may be applied to delineate short‐term mortality in patients with APE. In this study, we aim to depict the relationship between the right ventricular early inflow‐outflow (RVEIO) index, which is a Doppler‐based parameter, and the pulmonary embolism severity index(PESI) in acute pulmonary embolism. Methods In the presented study, a total of 160 patients who were diagnosed with APE using pulmonary computed tomography angiography or ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy were comprised. Patients were separated to 2 groups based on the simplified PESI (sPESI): sPESI  〈  1 (n = 88) and sPESI ≥ 1 (n = 72). Echocardiographic parameters, including the RVEIO index, were measured. Results There were no significant differences between the groups in age and gender distribution, or the presence of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, smoking, and history of coronary artery disease. There was a positive correlation with the mortality rate and RVEIO index; the mortality was higher in patients with a higher RVEIO index( 〈 0.001). In receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis using a cutoff level of 14.39, RVEIO index predicted mortality with a sensitivity of 80.4% and specificity of 57.6%(ROC area under curve:0.694; 95%CI, 0.581‐0.814; P   〈  .001). RVEIO index was higher in the sPESI ≥ 1(n:72) than in the patients with sPESI  〈  1(14.27 ± 2.13 vs 10.63 ± 2.09; P   〈  .001). There was a positive correlation between RVEIO index and sPESI score(+0.428; P   〈  .001). Conclusion As well as predicting the degree of tricuspid regurgitation (TR), the RVEIO index is well‐correlated with sPESI score and is associated with mortality in patients with APE. This easily measurable parameter may be used to predict short‐term mortality in APE patients.

Abstract: Development of winter wheat ( Triticum aestivum ) synthetics started at CIMMYT-Mexico in 2004, when winter durum wheat ( Triticum turgidum ) germplasm from Ukraine and Romania was crossed with Aegilops tauschii accessions from the Caspian Sea region. Chromosomes were doubled after pollination and embryo rescue, but chromosome number and cytological validation was not performed. F 2 populations were grown in Mexico and were shipped to Turkey in 2008. During 2009–2015, these populations were subjected to rigorous pedigree selection under dry, cold, disease-affected environments of the Central Anatolian Plateau. The wide segregation and partial sterility observed in 2009 gradually decreased and, by 2016, most of the F 8 single spike progenies demonstrated good fertility and agronomic performance. Since 2013, lines have been selected from synthetic populations and evaluated at multiple sites. Superior lines were characterized for resistance to leaf, stripe and stem rust, plant height, and reaction to common bunt and soil-borne pathogens. Thousand kernel weight of many lines exceeded 50 g, compared with the check varieties that barely reached 40 g. Threshability of synthetic lines varied from 0 to 95%, demonstrating genetic variation for this important domestication trait. Screening against Hessian fly, sunny pest and Russian wheat aphid identified several resistant genotypes. Both durum and Aegilops parents affected synthetic wheat traits. Several studies are underway to reveal the genetic diversity of synthetic lines and the basis of resistance to diseases and insects. This synthetic germplasm represents a new winter bread wheat parental pool. It is available upon request to interested breeding/research programmes.
