Notes: We report a simulation on the formation of ordered stripe structures of nanoscale rods driven by symmetric diblock copolymer melts. Due to the preferential adsorption of one species of the diblock onto the mobile rods, the phase ordering process will couple with the movement of rods. We find that the self-assembly of rods on the copolymer scaffold produces the highly ordered nanowires of rods, and copolymer blends in turn form the well-oriented lamellar structure. This is due to the interplay among the micro-phase separating dynamics in the diblock copolymer, the wetting interaction between rods and diblock copolymer, and the nematic ordering dynamics of rods. We examine the influence of the domain size, the wetting strength, and the rod number density on the formation of such a nanoscale structure. Additionally, we indicate that the orientation of the pattern can be well controlled by external fields acting on the rods. The results suggest that our model system may provide a novel and simple way to control and design the ordering nanowire structure. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Different nonlinear amplitude equations for long waves in core-annular flow are compared. Each equation has its own limits of validity that can be critically assessed by comparing the linearization of approximate and exact theories. Long wave theory gets the dispersion relation for the longest waves correctly but cannot accommodate cases like capillary instability, in which the most dangerous wave is not surpassingly long. Small gap lubrication based theories accommodate shorter waves of the size of the core when various extra conditions are satisfied, but various stabilizing mechanisms associated with inertia may not be well represented. One theory in which lubrication theory is used in the water film but not in the core captures the shear stabilization of inertia when the gap is small enough. The criterion for small enough is not uniform in the viscosity ratio and surpassingly small films are required for validity when the oil viscosity is large. The results of lubrication theory are not robust with respect to changes to larger gaps outside the regime of asymptotic validity; for example, the stabilizing effects of the inertia of the core and annulus may reverse for larger, but still small thicknesses.

Notes: [Auszug] Febrile (fever-induced) seizures affect 3–5% of infants and young children. Despite the high incidence of febrile seizures, their contribution to the development of epilepsy later in life has remained controversial. Combining a new rat model of complex febrile seizures and patch clamp ...

Notes: [Auszug] Febrile seizures are the most common type of developmental seizures, affecting up to 5% of children. Experimental complex febrile seizures involving the immature rat hippocampus led to a persistent lowering of seizure threshold despite an upregulation of inhibition. Here we provide a mechanistic ...

Notes: [Auszug] DNA polymerase X (Pol X) from the African swine fever virus (ASFV) specifically binds intermediates in the single-nucleotide base-excision repair process, an activity indicative of repair function. In addition, Pol X catalyzes DNA polymerization with low nucleotide-insertion fidelity. The ...

Notes: It is well known that metal dichalcogenides MS2 (M=Mo, W, Nb, Ta, TiS, Zr ,Hf, S=S, Se)have lamellar structure, the bonds of adjacent lamellae are weak van der Waals interactions andinter-lamellar are strong covalent interactions. The structures make adjacent lamellae easy to slip andit shows low friction coefficient during friction process. MS2 are often used as solid lubricants inhigh/low temperature, heave load and vacuum, in which oil is failure. WS2 has better hightemperature properties than MoS2, although little natural WS2 mineral has been deposited, and peoplemust synthesize it by chemical means, so its price is nearly 5 times expensive than that of MoS2. Untilnow little study is made comparing with MoS2. Furthermore the research papers about tribologicalbehavior of NbS2, TaS2, TiS2, ZrS2, HfS2 are not seen. In this study the thermal decompositionmethod is used to produce fullerene-like MS2 nanotubes. The morphology, microstructure andtribological behavior of MS2 nanotubes are investigated by means of SEM, TEM, XRD and AFM.The results show that the diameter of MoS2, WS2 and NbS2 nanotube is less than 100nm, and thelength is more than 2μm. The MoS2, WS2 nanotube has lower friction coefficient than MoS2 powdertested by AFM using Si3N4 probe. Similar results are also found for NbS2 nanotube. Themacroscopic friction test for pin on disc tester shows nearly the same results. TEM image shows thatMS2 nanotubes have rolling debris between two antagonist surfaces, and MoS2 powder only hasflattened debris. It may be the fullerene structure brings the chemical stability and lead low friction

Notes: Abstract Two cases of chylothorax associated with generalized lymphangiomatosis (lymphangiectasis) are reported. The first case presented with splenomegaly, thrombocytopenia and afibrinogenemia and later with chylothorax. The second case developed a sudden onset of chylothorax several days after an injury to the thorax. Lymphangiomatous tissue was identified in the posterior mediastinum and peritoneum, in addition to generalized lymphangiectasis in the internal organs. The pathogenesis, treatment and complications are discussed. The possibility of delayed ectasia of abnormally developed lymphatic tissue in these two cases of generalized lymphangiectasis is suggested as the etiologic basis of this disorder.

Notes: Abstract. Urease was extracted from several kinds of plant seeds and the kinetic frequency response, the urease activity, Michaelis constants and other kinetic parameters were measured by means of a new device, i.e. a surface acoustic wave (SAW) enzyme sensor system, which was composed of a 61 MHz SAW resonator and a pair of parallel platinum electrodes. Influences such as extracting conditions, pH and temperature and the specificity were also investigated. The method has been successfully applied in the clinical assay of urea in human urine and blood. The results are in agreement with the reported values and also support the clinical diagnosis.
