Abstract:
A method to measure transverse beam sizes of charged beams is demonstrated using stripline-type beam-position monitors (BPMs). The method is theoretically described based on the multipole-moment analysis of an electromagnetic field generated by the charged beams. An experiment has been performed to verify this method using single-bunch electron beams at the KEK B-Factory (KEKB) injector linac. The experimental results show that according to the detection method using the BPMs, which takes into account the higher-order moments derived from the multipole-moment analysis, the analyzed beam sizes are consistent with those measured by wire scanners. In this report we describe in detail the experimental results using two kinds of stripline-type BPMs with four electromagnetic pickups along with the theoretical multipole analysis.
