Kurzfassung: The paper highlights the effect of different forms of   periodic   piecewise linear forces in the ubiquitous Duffing oscillator equation. The external periodic piecewise linear forces considered are Triangular, Hat, Trapezium, Quadratic and Rectangular. With the aid of some numerical simulation tools such as bifurcation diagram, phase portrait and Poincare´ map, the different routes to chaos and various strange attractors are found to occur due to the applied forces. The effect of an ε-parametric control force in the Duffing system is also analyzed. To characterize the regular and chaotic behaviours of this system, the maximal Lyapunov exponent is employed.

Kurzfassung: We consider a harmonically trapped potential system driven by modulated signals with two widely different frequencies ω and Ω, where Ω 〉 〉 ω. The forms of modulated signals are amplitude modulated (AM) and frequency-modulated (FM) signals. An amplitude-modulated external signal is consisting of a low-frequency (ω) component and two high-frequencies (Ω + ω) and (Ω − ω) whereas the frequency modulated signal consisting of the frequency components such as f sinωt cos(g cosΩt) and f sin(g cosΩt) cosωt. Depending upon the values of the parameters in the potential function, an odd number of potential wells of different depths can be generated. We numerically investigate the effect of these modulated signals on vibrational resonance (VR) in single-well, three-well, five-well and seven-well potentials. Different from traditional VR theory in the present paper, the enhancement of VR is made by the amplitudes of the AM and FM signals. We show the enhanced response amplitude (Q) at the low-frequency ω, showing the greater number of resonance peaks and non-decay response amplitude on the response amplitude curve due to the modulated signals in all the potential wells. Furthermore, the response amplitude of the system driven by the AM signal exhibits hysteresis and a jump phenomenon. Such behavior of Q is not observed in the system driven by the FM signal.

Kurzfassung: The Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in reduction of cotton stem weevil in ecofriendly manner is attaining importance in recent days. In present study, three treatments including IPM module 1, IPM module 2 and farmers’ practice were imposed against cotton stem weevil in a field trial. Among the three treatments, IPM module 2 which included basal application of FYM 25 t/ha and 250 kg/ha of neem cake, seed treatment with Beauveria bassania @10g/kg of seed, border crop with Hibiscus cannabinus, soil drenching with Imidacloprid 17.80 SL @ 25 g a.i./ha (125 ml/ha) at 15 DAS and placement of cotton stem bits (25 kg/500box/ha) + Hibiscus cannabinus stem bits (25 kg/500box/ha) + Chlorpyriphos dust 1.5 DP (2.5 kg/500box/ha) @ 30 DAS followed by earthing up @ 30 DAS recorded least stem weevil infestation of 13.21% with a yield of 1642.75 kg/ha. It was followed by IPM module 1 (21.78%) and farmers’ practice (33.56%) with yield of 1456.25 kg/ha and 1588.25 kg/ha, respectively. The mean survival of plants was also higher in IPM module 2 (94.28%) followed by farmers’ practice (88.57%) and IPM module 1 (80.00%).

Kurzfassung: Introduction: Contamination of alginate impressions is reported and various methods to disinfect them have been studied. However, contamination of the impressions from the rubber bowl is not known. The transfer of microorganisms to the oral cavity by the alginate mixed in an unsterilized rubber bowl is a possibility. The objective of this study is to find out the fomite contamination of alginate impressions from rubber bowls and evaluate the role of chemical and herbal disinfectants against them. Methodology: Thirty volunteers were included in the study and they were grouped into six groups (one control and five study groups). Three chemical disinfectants and two herbal disinfectants were used to disinfect the rubber bowl before impressions. The presence of pathogens and the number of colony-forming units were evaluated. Results: Harmful pathogens like Staphylococcus species, E. coli, Pseudomonas species, Bacillus species, and Klebsiella species have been detected under a light microscope on the surface of the rubber bowl. There was a significant decrease in the number of colony-forming units on alginate impressions after the rubber bowl was disinfected. Herbal disinfectants showed a profound decrease in the transmission of organisms compared to chemical disinfectants. Conclusion: The presence of fomite contamination in the routine impression has been confirmed in the study. All the disinfectants showed a significant reduction in colony-forming units when the rubber bowl was disinfected. Both the plant extracts showed an effective decrease in Colony-Forming Units (CFU) per ml and were as effective in eliminating pathogens as the chemical disinfectants. Hence, plant extracts of Neem and Babool can be a viable alternative to chemical disinfectants on rubber bowls.
