Abstract:
The rapid development of flexible electronic devices stimulates the search for the cost‐effective and suitable flexible electrodes. However, the excessive pursuit of the flexibility and energy density allow researchers to give less attention to other important factors such as cost and the negative effect of the flexible substrates. Here, with low cost, good conductivity and considerable smaller thickness, stainless steel mesh (SSM) is considered as a potential flexible current collector. The experimental results also show that the SSM has negligible capacity contribution when used as a substrate for the growth of active materials and therefore the exsitence of SSM does not consume the active components in electrolyte and has negligible influence on the electrochemical properties of active materials. Besides, further chemical modification of SSM (SSME) leads to the enhanced eletrochemical properties and volumetric energy densities of SSME‐derived electrodes. Thus, this work gives an example of how to select suitable flexible current collector.
