Abstract: In order to overcome the shortcomings in integrating the building information modeling (BIM) and seismic finite element technique for building structures, a new seismic analysis and damage evaluation method for reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures was proposed by integrating Revit and OpenSees, in which the information about geometric and material of the existing BIM model in Revit was extracted as part of the finite element analysis model of OpenSees; supplementary settings about the element type, material constitutive model, load information, and analysis type for finite element analysis were made according to the input format of OpenSees, and OpenSees program was directly called for numerical analysis in the Revit software which realized seismic analysis and damage evaluation of RC frame structures based on BIM. RTO, a revolutionary structural seismic analysis and damage evaluation tool based on the three-tier architecture theory, was created by combining Revit and OpenSees via the RevitAPI interface. The preprocessing module was created to contact OpenSees for finite element analysis, the postprocessing module was created to secondary analyze, display, and export the analysis data, and crucial structural seismic damage information was automatically saved in the Revit model. A calculation example of a five-story RC frame structure was provided to demonstrate the operation process of the proposed method and the developed program. The example proved the feasibility of integrating the BIM and finite element method in elastic-plastic structural seismic analysis. The proposed approach would facilitate the participation of structural seismic analysis in BIM life cycle collaboration.

Abstract: We formulate the statistical selection problem in a general dynamic framework comprising fully sequential sampling allocation and optimal design selection. Because the traditional probability of correct selection measure is not sufficient to capture both aspects in this more general framework, we introduce the integrated probability of correct selection to better characterize the objective. As a result, the usual selection policy of choosing the design with the largest sample mean as the estimate of the best is no longer necessarily optimal. Rather, the optimal selection policy is to choose the design that maximizes the posterior integrated probability of correct selection, which is a function of the posterior mean and the correlation structure induced by the posterior variance. Because determining the optimal selection policy is generally intractable, we also devise an approximation scheme to efficiently approximate the optimal selection policy. For the allocation policy, we study an asymptotic policy called general Bayesian budget allocation, which is comprised of a sampling statistic and a sequential rule. The optimal computing budget allocation algorithm can be interpreted as a special case of the asymptotical sampling statistics. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the potential performance improvements, especially in small sample behavior.

Abstract: In this paper, we evaluate the economic value of a blockchain application. In the context of asset-backed securities (ABS) issuance in China, where some ABS are issued with blockchain technology and others are not, we find that the use of blockchain significantly reduces the coupon yield at issuance. Compared with other ABS, those issued using blockchain technology experience a decrease of 31.4 basis points in the yield spread, which corresponds to a relative decrease of 13%. We further document that the effect of blockchain is more pronounced for ABS deals rated by less reputable credit rating agencies and agencies that rely more on issuers for their rating business, for revolving ABS, and for ABS with a larger number of underlying assets. We also find that the use of blockchain can reduce the level of retained interest and number of credit enhancement mechanisms. This paper contributes to the literature by providing a small-sample analysis of the economic value of a blockchain application in financial markets. Abstract: The new generation of information and communication technologies represented by the Internet of Things, big data, and cloud computing are developing rapidly. Through continuous integration with other emerging technologies, the Internet of Things technology accelerates its penetration into the fields of smart medicine, new energy, and materials. In this article, we will explore the airport peripheral environment and civil airport fire emergency management. In airport emergency management, bird strike and fire management are the most frequent problems. Bird strikes most often occur in aircraft take-off, taxi, and landing areas. Therefore, the study of airport environmental characteristics is particularly important. In order to improve the emergency support capability of the civil airport fire department and the level of airport operation support, it is necessary to clarify the factors that affect the emergency support capability of the airport fire department. This article is based on the research of the airport surrounding environment of Big Data Internet of Things and applies it to the research of civil airport fire emergency management, which improves the emergency ability of airport firefighters.

Abstract: Crowdfunding has emerged as a market-based solution to give frontline complex public service employees the opportunity to acquire resources by advertising project proposals for donor patrons on crowdfunding platforms. However, whether crowdfunded resources can improve offline service outcomes, and if so, how and when, remains murky. Focusing on the context of public education crowdfunding and applying theories from crowdfunding and services marketing literature, the authors conceptualize that the combination of two factors—namely, teachers’ request for resources meant to satisfy unmet heterogeneous (i.e., diverse and evolving) intellectual needs of students and donors’ screening and approval (i.e., crowd screening) of promising projects—helps improve student academic achievement. Collating novel panel data from DonorsChoose and California Department of Education, the authors show that (1) crowdfunded resources positively affect student academic achievement, (2) student academic achievement improves with the increase in the heterogeneity of intellectual needs that crowdfunded resources likely satisfy, (3) crowd screening of project proposals plays a critical role in the offline effectiveness of crowdfunded resources, and (4) crowd screening effectiveness depends on the type of project.

Abstract: We consider the problem of efficiently allocating simulation replications in order to maximize the probability of selecting the best design under the scenario in which system performances are sampled in the presence of correlation. In the case of two designs, we are able to derive the optimal allocation exactly, and find that in the presence of positive correlation, unless the variance of one design is significantly larger than that of the other, the number of simulation replications should be identical. In extending to a general number of competing designs, an approximation for the asymptotically optimal allocation is obtained. The approximation coincides with the independent case derived previously in the limit as the correlation vanishes and also agrees with the two-design exact solution. Furthermore, the allocations prescribed by the results seem to match intuition, in terms of the relationship to correlations and relative variances between designs, again suggesting that equal allocation is optimal for sufficiently high positive correlation. An allocation algorithm based on the approximation is proposed and tested on several numerical examples.
