Abstract: Studies have demonstrated that spatial deprivation (SD) exists in the process of ecological migration, but few studies have examined whether SD affects the settlement intention of eco‐migrants. Based on 648 valid questionnaires from 65 villages in China, this study investigates the effect of SD on the continued settlement intention (CSI)of eco‐migrants by developing a new theoretical model with integrating Expectation—Confirmation Model—Theory of planned behaviour (ECM–TPB) structural equation model. We find that the theoretical model has a high explanation with R 2  = 75 per cent for CSI; the SD of villages are different from moving periods and landforms, and it has significant main effect on CSI and significant moderating effects on the relationship between settlement attitude, settlement satisfaction and CSI; settlement attitude has significant mediating effect on settlement usefulness to CSI. The study concludes that countries should reduce SD by optimizing the allocation of spatial resources to stabilize the settlement intention of eco‐migrants.

Abstract: Micro-blogging is a new social networking service (SNS) that can be viewed as an easily accessible, simplified blog. The simple and swift spread properties of micro-blogging make it different to the conventional SNS. However, little empirical results were provided in prior literature to elaborate individual’s behavior of micro-blogging use. Consequently, this study aims to explore the possible influence of individuals’ motivations on their self-disclosure and instant information sharing behavior as well as the extent of perceived social support in micro-blogging. Individuals who had experiences on Plurk usage were invited as subjects. The partial least squares (PLS) was utilized to examine the proposed model and hypotheses. Analytical results indicate that popularity and interpersonal needs significantly influence individual’s self-disclosure, while interpersonal and entertainment needs significantly influence individual’s instant information sharing behavior. Moreover, both individual’s self-disclosure and instant information sharing behavior have a positive relationship with the perceived extent of social support.

Abstract: Inspired by the concept of the regulatory welfare state, this article identifies four primary modes of governance in regulating contract processes and contract implementation (market-based, hierarchical, professional, and relational), and compares contract governance modes in Shanghai and Chongqing. We find that the governments in these two localities prioritize and integrate the hierarchical and relational modes, relying less on the market-based and professional modes of governance. The emphasis on the hierarchical-relational mode advances the values and mechanisms of trust, adaptation, and alignment with top-down priorities, but may hinder public and legal accountability. We argue that the dynamics of political context and market condition affect the formation and effectiveness of hybrid modes of contract governance, and we advise that regulators in different countries should factor in such dynamics when designing contract governance modes in the regulation of social services.

Abstract: The structure of social stratification in contemporary China is closely related to the situation of the nation's direct ownership and distribution of social resources. Power status, which combines the country's political and administrative power, became the most significant of the many forms of social status. Through the `identity system', `unit system' and `administrative ranking system', the nation has imposed the distribution of social positions throughout the entire society, and thus shaped the basic systematic framework of the structure of social stratification in contemporary China. This structure of social stratification has enabled the state to gain more legitimacy and efficiency than it has ever had before and has promoted the modernisation process in Chinese society. However, it has gradually directed people's efforts or aspirations towards higher status or changed their position toward power. Moreover, this system may not be able to adapt with the changes and developments taking place in society.

Abstract: Most businesses have been severely affected during the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, as they lack sufficient cash reserves for turnaround in this devastated business environment. This study presents a nudge-based approach for encouraging employees to choose delayed but larger wage payment. Through two laboratory experiments and one field experiment, we found that blue light more likely promotes individuals choosing the farsighted intertemporal option (i.e., delayed but larger payment) than red light. We further investigated why blue light can promote such a farsighted decision and found that the intradimensional difference comparison—that is, comparing the difference between the two options in the time dimension (∆ time A,B ) and the difference in the payoff dimension (∆ payoff A,B )—mediates the effect of blue (vs. red) light on intertemporal choice. The current study demonstrates the effectiveness of light color and provides a solution to nudge people to make farsighted choices.

Abstract: This study investigated the impact of indoor illuminance and correlated color temperature (CCT) on healthy adults’ cognitive performance, subjective mood, and alertness during daytime office hours and differences in time-of-day effects. A 2(illuminance) × 2(CCT) × 2(morning vs. afternoon) mixed design ( N = 60) was employed. Participants felt less sleepy in the bright light exposure. The low “cool” lighting induced the least positive mood. The effects of illuminance and CCT on subjective feelings were not time-of-day dependent. The results demonstrated the slowest responses in inhibition, working memory, and recognition of facial expression tasks in the low “warm” lighting. The effect on long-term memory was most pronounced under the high “cool” light exposure, but only in the afternoon for recognition of neutral words. The findings suggest that future research on good indoor lighting should consider illuminance levels and CCT as well as other variables to optimize lighting effects during regular daytime hours.

Abstract: Despite explosive growth in the number of Facebook users, little research has investigated the use of different Facebook features. Thus, this study explored what motivates people to use various Facebook features as well as the social impact of using the website itself. Users with experience in both social interaction and social game features offered by Facebook were invited to participate in a survey. Our proposed research model was evaluated using the partial least-squares (PLS) method. Results show that social needs, enjoyment needs, and trend-following significantly influence the use of the social interaction features on Facebook, while immersion needs and achievement needs significantly influence the use of social games associated with the website. Interestingly, we found that different clusters of individuals have different sets of motivations. Furthermore, both social interaction features and social game features have positive correlations with social ties.

Abstract: Economic and social transformation of China during the past 40 years is without precedent in human history. While the economic transformation was extensively studied, social transformation was not. In this paper, we use for the first time harmonized household surveys covering the period 1988–2013 to study the changes in the characteristics of the richest 5 percent of China's urban population. We find that it changed from being composed of high government officials, clerical staff, and workers in 1988 to professionals and small and large business owners in 2013. The educational level of the top group increased substantially. Membership in CCP has a positive (albeit small) effect on one's income but is particularly valuable to large business owners.
